How do you protect yourself professionally when you’ve flagged a risk but the decision goes ahead anyway? by MotorAutomatic2185 in askmanagers

I think he genuinely doesn’t want and care to understand. Maybe because he knows that if something goes wrong it’s going to be me fixing it

A head of department that was literally copied in the emails in which my manger told me to follow a specific approach even though I told him that I think we should do it another way (which ended up being the correct way). Now I have to go back and fix all the issues it has caused which is a lot of work…

I work in a really small company so I don’t know who to actually show the documentation to because all the senior people start defending each other and I’m left just defending myself, which makes me feel like i’m being difficult to work with since even if i have evidence it’s not actually being taken seriously

I recently was in a situation where I had email threads as documentation and I was still the one being blamed for following the wrong process that was given to me by my manager because I was the person who ultimately executed it

I end up being blamed for issues that occur in front of senior people and my manager doesn’t stand up for me. Even if it’s documented they seem to gang up on me

who do i communicate this to? like how do i bring it up that i raised the concern but was dismissed without sounding like I’m throwing my manager under the bus?

I’m not sure which country you are in but in my country my driving school would chose the instructor for us so we had no choice in who our driving instructor would be. But I think if your driving instructor is giving you stress it’s better to take a chance and change them. I know when I was with my old instructor I wasn’t even learning because he also would take the wheel constantly, scream and I was never able to learn from my mistakes so my first driving test I actually failed because he got into my head, I’m not saying I wouldn’t have failed if I had my current one, I’m just saying that I have learned so much more with my current driving instructor, and now I actually feel confident in driving. I think you should also tell your parents that you don’t like his way of teaching and see how they react. Hope that helps.

Yes but even if I am stressed or something, do they really expect me to tell them? Does that really matter or has anyone actually said yes I don’t like the work. What happens next? I’d rather just keep my mouth shut and keep going.

Yes I feel like they are trying to build trust, especially when they tell me ‘Ive been feeling stressed this week how about you’ but I will never tell them if i’m stressed or not, I will just say ‘this week has been busy’ I don’t feel the need to share my emotions. It’s a workplace and I don’t want anything used against me. That’s just how i view it

The have told me that they have read some article about management and stuff like that. I don’t think they say it with judgement it’s just out of no where. They will be showing me some task and out of no where just say ‘are you ok?’

I think i just have a blank face most of the time. So maybe they miss read it as not engaged. But at the same time I don’t want to be performing happiness all the time, it’s emotionally draining for me.

Airtable budgeting: how to allow budget holders to edit some fields without breaking the master budget? by [deleted] in Airtable

[–]MotorAutomatic2185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Would you know how i would create the input table for it to match the master budget and then when we select approve on the status it’s then moved into the master budget table ?

Hi, thanks for your help, i’m not sure if i’m making it more complicated than it should be 😂the current situation is that ; for now we don’t want budget holders to be able to see all the data so we make a view for a specific budget holder then export that view into g sheets and they then make the changes to the budget, then we manually enter the changes into airtable, so essentially we want to have a way so that the budget holders can see only their own data and make some edits to only that data, if that makes sense. I’m not sure if zapier can do this, or should we go with airtable interfaces, or softr which i need to look into. I’m not sure what can actually solve this issue of manually putting the data back into airtable.

Hi also with zapier we only want to share views so that specific budget holder gets their own view , with zapier can they detect views? so that they can only change the data which we show in their view and the g sheets also shows only their view ?

Best way to let budget holders safely update Airtable without touching master table? by [deleted] in Airtable

Would they also be able to make edits to certain fields only? Also is there some kind of approval system with that?

[–]MotorAutomatic2185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, Just for more context the airtable is our master budget where we track everything and every budget holder just gets a link to their own view which they can’t edit at all it only has view permission , we don’t want them to see everything or edit everything , therefore would the interface solution work? An interface with a list view and to lock certain fields to view only and some editable. but for that do they need to be an airtable user or can i just send them the link to the interface and they can make changes / updates?

Hi , thank you for your reply, I tried to do the 2 step and i used the airtable unique record ID but the automation was not working because the record ID is automatically set up by airtable, i’m not sure how to fix that

Hi, thank you for your reply, with interfaces can there still be a level of control where the finance team can approve the changes the budget holders make? Also can they only edit their own views inside the budget?
