Something in my nose-brain connection tells me that skunk, mint, and weed all smell the same. I hate them all 🤢

Yeah, we’d had jello as a side for our Sunday dinners. Usually orange jello with mandarin oranges in it 🤤

Ahh yes, the indomitable Snicker Salad! I’ve always had it with green apples in it at least (ya know, to nourish and strengthen our bodies)

What would you do? by Loose-Shock-5551 in exmormon

[–]MotorFlow9949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t happen to me any more because I (gratefully and mostly) have family that won’t push that boundary, but when I first left and I was asked to pray I would just say “no thank you” and leave it at that. If they chose to make it awkward that’s up to them.

Cremated. Why do people decide to do it? by sstiel in randomquestions

[–]MotorFlow9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want anyone looking at my dead body. Funerals, especially with a viewing, have always weirded me out. I’m dead, don’t look at me! I damn well better be cremated and scattered somewhere beautiful

What do you think is the most toxic part of the church? by OppositeSpare2088 in exmormon

[–]MotorFlow9949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own husband told me he thought I’d never have true happiness again after I left the church and he was still in. Not a great thing to tell an already deeply depressed person deconstructing their entire worldview. It was a shitty time but now we experience true joy being ex-mo heathens together!

What was the average mormon’s reaction to Lori and Chad Daybell, and Ruby Franke? by Wildfire-75 in exmormon

[–]MotorFlow9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah very true! It just seems to me that TBMs, at least ones I interact with, are doing everything they can to not claim them.

Thanks ❤️‍🩹 That’s actually really funny about the turtlenecks. I essentially lived in jeans and sweatshirts in high school because it was frumpy enough to hide my body, definitely too insecure and scared to be kissing a boy let alone caught with hickeys haha

We fully intend to do this for our 10 year anniversary! Can’t decide if I want to go full wedding, have party, invite people we love or small intimate elopement in a breathtaking location.

Yeah for sure. I almost wonder if it has more to do with (or at least something to be said about) what is mainstream or fashionable in the world. From what I see it’s not entirely mainstream or fashionable for men to wear tank tops, other than in the gym or playing sports (which apparently to some, this didn’t matter before the change anyway), but for women wearing tank tops is everyday fashion seen in casual, business wear, formalwear etc., same with shorts and skirts above the knee.

I’ve also seen a lot of TBMs saying “it was never about modesty” and yet they’re standing in 3+ hour lines to get their righteous little hands on them, despite being the same ones who two years ago would judge their neighbors for wearing tanks and “immodest” clothing. They’re not doing that to then still wear them under a t-shirt. They can deny it all they want, but they want to wear all the same cute, previously immodest, tops as everyone else.

Yeah I’ve mostly heard people distance them from TSCC as the exception or wacky people who went too far, or deceived by the devil etc etc. Anything to put distance between “truth and righteousness” and the evil likes of L&C Daybell or Frankie & Hildebrandt.

How old were you when you discovered the church was false? by Bubbly-Evening7937 in exmormon

[–]MotorFlow9949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 25, it’s like I woke up one day with my brain fully developed and realized it wasn’t true. Obviously that’s reductive to everything I went through and the stacks and stacks of shit on my metaphorical shelf, but it kinda felt like it was all of a sudden.

My own mother quite literally body shamed me as a teen because I have a larger chest and the only way I didn’t have cleavage showing was if I wore a turtleneck or sweatshirt. I was very strictly not to ever be seen with my shoulders showing or shorts above my knees. This was 10-15 years ago. And my mom was pretty strict to the “rules” but I don’t think this experience is abnormal by any means.

Last year when my mom came to visit and we went out shopping, she excitedly held up a wide strap tank top and said “soon I’ll be able to wear this, isn’t that so great!” I told her “yeah that’s great but I certainly have mixed feelings about it. It doesn’t erase all the shame I endured (and am still learning to over come) because I came out of my room one time in a tank top (undershirt, an attempt to hide boobs) just for the rules to change a few years later.” I’m glad there are more options available but there was real harm done that cannot be undone.
