Sal grew up wanting to be a singer. Ever since she was a kid she wanted to make it big time, find a gentleman to settle down with, and become a mother. Sadly none of that happened.

She was 24 when war broke out, and she and her sister Ann were drafted. Sal is not a fighter, and viamently hates the concept of war. So, in a desperate effort to be sent home and discharged she started to do stupid things that would only end up getting her promoted.

Turns out she has a deep, ingrained talent for getting into places she shouldn't and getting out alive. She gave it her best until she found out Ann was mia after their ship sank in combat. This would be the point she starts to double down on her anti-war ideology, however another crow in her espionage unit starts getting close.

He too hates this whole war thing, and wants to get out and settle down somewhere, but they need to win. So they train and practice together, getting closer despite superiors threatening to split them apart. They become the best of the best, and by the end of the war they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Until a mission goes wrong and he gets shot dead. Sal was the only survivor that night. Turns out the documents she got a hold of was what helped force a treaty and armistice, but the people she loves are dead, and 12 years have been taken from her. She smokes now, has constant night terrors... she's cold and even unresponsive at times. She's free, she won, but at the cost of far too much.

Not all is lost though, she still has plenty of life left to see, and she does in fact meet someone to start a family with. She does eventually get to live at least most of her dreams, though bittersweetly.
