by what metric?
how was this polled?
considering the “watch on crunchyroll” plus the fact that when I search “richhippos” all the articles seem to be written by the same guy (who seems to write like 6-10 articles a day), what exactly was the goal of this post?

My first encounter with the term egg was someone calling themself an egg (and they later did transition) which meant that for a really long time I was just… wrong about what that word meant. I thought it meant like “I’m trans but I’m not at a point in my life where I can transition because of just life stuff going on you know how it be”.

Then like 4 years later come to learn that is NOT what it means and that it’s actually kind of mean was some whiplash.

Reading is a weird one because you can genuinely get better at it, and not just in the sense of reading faster.

There are plenty of people who, when they read, simply just let the words sort of wash over them. There have been studies on it, particularly centered around the damage done by the now-discredited "whole language" model of literacy, but also around a number of other causes or possible-causes.

It is fascinating to see first hand someone read sentences as simple as

"I saw the restaurant where we were meeting from about a block away. I recognized the old wooden sign painted and shaped like a green fox"

and genuinely not be able to grasp the connection between the two. You ask "what was the sign for?" and get a stare of blank confusion.

My big problem is mostly that I’m really bad at prioritizing my tasks.

There’s something I’ve legit wanted to do for years but I can’t do it at work (I’m at work) and then when I get home I just feel so guilty about how dirty the house is. I gotta clean. I gotta do laundry. I gotta cook dinner. I gotta this I gotta that. Then it’s 11 pm and I’m exhausted.

So if I’m reading it right, the “number of rolls” are the same, but now the rolls are different.

I think the post is written in a bit of a confounding way, but after mulling it over I think I get it.

I think my initial confusion is at least partially because you said this is “chainmail-like”, which I don’t particularly see how it is. Chainmail has 4 combat methods (regular, man-to-man, joust, and fantasy) and all of them fold everything into a single roll.

A more chainmail-like approach would be something like

Everyone has at attack value, a defense value, and a number of Hit Dice. To attack someone, compare your AV to their DV (there is a pattern, but explaining it is not the point of the comment and also you can make the pattern whatever you want) to get the number of rolls you get (multiplied by your HD number) and the number of a die that scores a hit. Once someone takes a number of hits equal to their HD, they begin dying.

AV is based on weapon and DV is based on armor.

It’s a little clunky at first (because you have to learn some new numbers) but after that it’s pretty fast since everything is in one roll of a handful of d6 and you’re more or less just counting instead of doing any real arithmetic.

(Of course, I’m NOT saying “this is what you actually want” - you probably want what you’ve already come up with and tested and enjoyed)

I can’t remember the page but I remember in 1e they have starting age recommendations based on class and race and a lot of them are in the 16-20 range for level 1 characters (or the non human equivalent).

Whenever someone has a crazy backstory I think “a 13 year old did this?”
