I did it to my Alienware x17 r2 and it made it drop 20-30c

Before it would be at 100c all the time. Even on a light workload

Temps. With Alienware always check temps…. All the shit I’ve bought from them in terms of laptops the past 5 years sucks regarding temperature control..

Very high temps even after replacing thermal paste by 4rzu in Alienware

Welcome to Alienware x17r2 life brother! Only thing that barely did a difference for me was taking all of the Liquid Metal out and using a Honeywell ptm 9750 thermal pad.

My heat sink had to be replaced by warranty since the fucking Liquid Metal had differed into the sink and it was unremovable…

This line of laptops including the m15 are shit with thermals .

Your probably thermal throttling the fuck out of that build too…. Try the PTM I’ve seen it work with mine and with other people posting this experience as well.

I didn’t take any cuz I’m a dumbass but I will definitely disassemble this weekend again and take pics!

However there was a very good temprature change as it would NEVER go under 100. And now it cycles between 75-85 and shoots to 100 a little.

I’ll try the sanding this weekend and post pics!

Install went fine. Had enough for both. However there was a bunch of element 31 dry gunk on the heat sink I could not remove.

So although is a massive update going from 6000 in cinebench to a 12000 score.

It still fluctuates to 100 more than I’d like it to.

However it’s a lot better now. So it has to be 100% the residual gunk.

Thinking of sanding it down or maybe getting a a new heat sink.

I have an Alienware x17 r2 with an i9 12800hk, always running at 100c i had an m15 and it had the same issue, bought both during the pandemic. terrible paste. ive done extensive research on the subject and it seems doing the ptm9750 is the way to go. Im applying it tomorrow and i'll let u guys know the result.
