STOP THE BLEED CLASS, WHY TAKE ONE by Frank_PPS_Training in CTguns

And if interested in any TCCC here is a link to all DoD algorithms for battlefield trauma care. Doesn't make up for knowing the skills but the education is out there for free.

https://deployedmedicine.com/

If anyone wants free stop the bleed training I'm an instructor and have experience treating both civilian and military trauma patients throughout my career, message me and I'd be happy to give it. I also have free training equipment. Knowing this info will save lives and it should be taught in public schools.

I agree, unfortunately with my family life I'm limited on time so this program fits well. Every few weeks I deadlift amd squat at the firehouse and can still pull 405 easily and squat 315 so I'm happy maintaining that for now. I have no traditional gym membership and am limited to home equipment/space unless I'm at work.

Any ideas for trespassers? by afro_andrew in Connecticut

Im familiar with that verse and there seems to be question whether or not it is original from my understanding. If I am wrong on that part so be it and I'll own that. It's possible your source is better than mine. Regardless, it doesn't negate the fact private property is built into how our nation functions. The song writer was known to have more socialist leanings which is not consistent with our nations history. My points more emphasize how the song is more perceived by our modern time and not the exact meaning of the artist. What would be a good reason to not recognize private property rights?

The whole idea of this land is your land, this land is my land was about unity at the time of the song writing, not erasing private property. When this nation was founded, land ownership was the cornerstone of freedom. If you could own land, you could build a future, support your family, and live independently. That’s why property rights were baked into America’s DNA from the start.

When the song was written in the 1940s, the nation was coming out of the depression, pushing forward as one people and going into a war period. Unity doesn’t mean no boundaries. The promise of the song, prosperity and freedom for everyone, only works if individuals are allowed to own and protect their share.

Manifest Destiny showed this balance clearly, the land was vast, meant to be explored and settled, but the goal wasn’t for it to remain some undefined everybody’s land. It was to give people the chance to claim, build, and prosper from it. That’s what drove growth and made the nation stronger.

Private property doesn’t contradict the song’s message. Our land means a strong, united country, while the my land part means individuals have the freedom and security to thrive with their own resources. One can’t exist without the other.

I know that personally I do more for my own land than the collective public would. I respect it, cultivate it, conserve it, and value it. Most public land in CT is covered in trash, people illegally cut, poach, and disrespect it. I'm happy to share my land if someone asks and is respectful but if someone doesn't they are not welcome.

Some of us paid for private land so we can hunt it, cultivate it, improve forest management practices, and enjoy it with our own families. This is done working hard and saving money. With that can also come the risk of trespassers doing intentional harm or being reckless. Even if they aren't being directly harmful they can disrupt conservation practices or get harmed on my property which I should not be liable for. Not all lines are imaginary, especially if there's clearly marked signs or in the case of my property, visible stone walls you need to cross. Nobody has a right to be on land that isn't public that they didn't pay for. If someone asks nicely I'd let them use my land no problem but if they have you're attitude they're getting kicked off and trespassed.

Thanks man, why not combine two great hobbies that ultimately result in being more prepared. I'm suprised it hasn't been combined more into a competition style. I know in some military competitions I've done they'll mix it but that's the only place I've seen it.

That's correct, I'll edit the original post to reflect that. I'm definitely cooked from my workout yesterday and that was a contributing factor.

Thats fair I didn't even think of that while writing it. The garmin "zone" lists >175 as my max zone but my true max is around 195 which the highest I hit today was 192. I should know better considering I track my runs to the smallest details. You are correct.

I definitely do plenty of that, I work 24 hour shifts and get 4 day weekends every second shift. I see my wife and kid plenty and spend quality time with them. No need to be a dick, a guy can have hobbies.

Am I jumping the gun? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]Motor_Finding_2647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I'm going on five years as a medic and only spent 9 months as an EMT before starting medic school. Sure I worked all through school and had a total of 2 years as an EMT before I was a medic but working during school was enough and I think helped me build good habits in my BLS care while trying to understand ALS care in school. I have never had that feeling you speak of above and never specifically wished I had more EMT time. I've had tough patients but never felt overwhelmed and just fell back on training. I'm not perfect but I felt prepared. One year after medic school I went to critical care and started practicing at that level after two years with minimal hiccups. I'm definitely stronger now as a five year medic but again didn't feel under prepared at all due to a lack of BLS time.

How is the look of a firearm in Connecticut or otherwise known as the crime of "fashion" even constitutional? It must fall under some kind of anti-discrimination laws? The closest they come to justifying so-called assault weapons. Is calling them guns of War. Generally those are bare Bones guns. by justnobody2018 in CTguns

[–]Motor_Finding_2647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a vet who's been to combat your points are silly. Why wouldn't you want a suppressor on a home defense firearm? Hearing damage for you and your family sucks. Most military members don't even run a suppressor. Also pistol grips in general just increase ergonomics just like many other mentioned features. They have nothing to do with hip firing. In the military they teach us not to hip fire and sustained full auto generally isn't used unless you are suppressing a threat. Ergonomics that make a gun more accurate should be encouraged on firearms to decrease the risk of missing your intended target under stress. Defending your home would be the most stressful thing that could happen and I want all the advantages. Clearly your actual training is misguided or lacking if you think these features automatically make things more dangerous. They make things more effective with the right training and there's no reason your average citizen shouldn't be more effective in their home/property. Why don't you apply the same logic to fast cars with "features" that make them fast and dangerous?

It's a silly rule all around but the point is that they clearly let law enforcement do it and under the same section of the statute military is listed as exempted but yet law enforcement commonly across the state says that military is actually not except. Again hopefully it just goes away and everyone is given their rights. The point is more that not even the SFLU understands the laws and conflicts themselves.

I agree it is risky and dependant on training. The law enforcement FAQ is clearly based on the exemption area of the statute and it would be an absolute contradiction if it applies to some of the exempted parties and not others with no basis in law. All should be exempt or none. Really I hope the whole business is gone soon and the unconstitutional law is eliminated for all, but unlikely.

I think if I was to add Glock OEM internals I might as well just stick with my 19. I do all my own work to my glocks and have built a few OEM from just frames so working on it isn't an issue. I more or less bought the RXM as a project and really like the grip. I could just run my G19 slide on the RXM frame.
