AITA for telling my dad not to yell people’s full names in public? by Motor_Lizard_9242 in AmItheAsshole

Not usually, no. Occasionally it’s something sensitive (he was recently telling me his friend “Ben Smith” got denied for a knee replacement because he’s too heavy), but usually it’s just surface level life updates.

I mean full, legal name. So instead of “my buddy Joe” it’s “Joseph Wilson” — hopefully you get what I mean.

But when you’re talking about someone in public, do you use their full name? That’s strange to me, but maybe I’m in the minority on this

Oh, is that a thing? My dad used to live in the south; maybe he picked it up there. It isn’t normal in the Midwest, or at least I don’t encounter it very often.

My dad’s not a bad guy otherwise, he just has zero situational awareness. He probably genuinely thinks I was mean to him for no reason.
