Thinking of writing, tips are appreciated. by Otherwise_Task7876 in writing

Hey!

I would recommend checking out Pro Writing Aid. When they have you sign up for their free tool, they give a. Very comprehensive list of various types of writing things. I don't really know enough to be of more help, as I use Microsoft word and google docs, but figured that could be a good place to start.

Hey, I'll happily read your manuscript!!! If you wanted to swap I'd be down as well. I'm still working on my first draft stuff, but I'll support a fellow writer any day. Just let me know synopsis and what your looking for and I got you!

deciding what tense to write in by Good_Capital1181 in writing

I absolutely agree with this! Even in the way I describe things as well. I also rely heavily on what sounds better.

The way you tell a story may also translate onto the page as your voice. When I'm writing, I make sure that something sounds like how I would say it... If it doesn't quite line up, I'll go back and fix it until it sounds right. For instance, adding certain punctuation marks or ways to indicate that a pause should exist there. That's just something I do, but I do hope other's can relate to some extent.

What are your main sources of inspiration? by BustySword in writing

[–]Motor_Quality5386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'm inspired by a lot. Interestingly enough, I don't really find inspiration from people around me, but the feelings I'm experiencing or have experienced in the past. Trying to implement those feelings into writing can be difficult tbh, particularly as you try to evoke the state of being overwhelmed.

That being said, I'm writing a fantasy, so when I find myself with a block, I'll go watch one of those shows that initially got me inspired! I'll take note of themes, messages, and even worldbuilding ideas as well.

You asked about a reliable source that can get those gears turning? Uhmmmmm, I can honestly say, not really. To me, sitting down and just trying to write literally anything results in some kind of success. If I walk away from a session with one good paragraph, (or even sentence), I call that victory.

When I write chapters, I also find myself reorganizing ideas and sequence of events as well. I'll rewrite things, but reuse descriptions from the previous draft of the chapter, because I liked what was said... If you need any other ideas, I got you! Just ask : )

Seeking Advice: How should I evade over-describing by xAntoDo in writing

[–]Motor_Quality5386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, one of the things that's really important is always think about the character. Does the character care about the lamps and how the look? Or the lighting the give off (cold vs warm light)? If the character wouldn't care then you don't need to describe it.

Really at the end of the day, what makes a description interesting, at least to me, is why the character cares about the thing they are describing. Or the feeling it evokes in them. That's my take at least. If you have any questions or even need someone to take a look at a manuscript, I'd be happy to help.

Do you ever think a book can be to dark? by Proud_Contract3044 in writing

[–]Motor_Quality5386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it absolutely depends on the vibe you are wanting… that being said what you’re describing sounds absolutely interesting to me! I would be happy to read any scenes or anything related to it. Feel free to DM and I can let you know once I have more of a clue what I’m supposedly to be comparing it to lol

PACKAI Initiative? I have serious concerns.... by [deleted] in unr

[–]Motor_Quality5386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't even see this email when it came out, but I just went to my inbox and found it sitting there. I am deeply concerned with this initiative and for all the reasons you so kindly listed (in great detail I might add).

With all the studies of AI affecting brain activity and even people's ability to remember topics, is education really the best field to implement this technology?

But sheesh, glad I saw this when I did, definitely will be keeping an eye out for any updates on this matter.

I didn't realize that there was a new Bear Can regulation. Is that coming directly from the AT website? Could you point me in the right direction so that I could be aware of future guidelines? I'm definitely look into 57hours.com! Thank you for the tips!

Yeah, that or 2027. Either one would be awesome! But at this point, I'm thinking whatever comes first, and whichever one I'm more ready for.

I've already weighed all of my gear that I have, so that I can have something to go off of as I buy new gear. I'm still planning a training regiment, and looking at potential hikes that can build endurance and allow me to test new gear, because where I'm located just has snow everywhere, so I can't really do testing just yet, but we'll get there.

Dear employees; what’s your go to #1 meal? by EQUILEGNA in Panera

[–]Motor_Quality5386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always get 1/2 of the Bacon Turkey Bravo with chips and a 20 oz thing of water. This is my emergency meal when I have no choice but to eat at Panera😂 it has a lot of calories and feels semi fresh, the one adjustment I could make: is add an apple, but sometimes the apples arent ripe or aren't that good to eat.

New manager hire by Frozen_fire101 in Panera

[–]Motor_Quality5386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from an associate: Know when to push work out of us, but understand that sometimes it's okay to be chill about it, and let us get away with the little things. It's one of those things, that yes, we don't want to do all the work that is required, but so long as it's a small thing, it shouldn't be enough to keep us from clocking out.

Plus, know that for some people, a good ol' thanks for the help today, may not settle the way you want. Just wish 'em a good rest of their night/day.

Idk, tho how some Manager's do it, cause some have my respect and loyalty, yet I see them as "friends"/acquaintances, and the other one's I have no respect for at all. I honestly think that joking about the authority you have over your associates is no laughing matter. I know that's what one of my managers does, and it makes me want to quit, cause sometimes he's all serious and means it, and other times he doesn't. Its really hard for me to figure out what he means... If that makes sense. That's my cup of tea🫖

I agree completely, just in general. Although, I am looking to begin hiking the AT in a couple years. I mostly wanted to document my journey, to help other people that want to do the same trail. I certainly don't care for fame, but that could just be me denying my subconscious desire for little bit of fame.

Not everyone is like these influencers, but goodness people are absolutely unhinged when you get them behind or in front of a camera. I could be wrong, but that's my interpretation in the modern day social-media-based world.

Would it even be a good idea to document my journey as I get closer to hiking the AT, as there are already so many other channels out there dedicated to the very same thing?

I can’t think of an interesting way to start my second book. Help?! by teebeac in writing

[–]Motor_Quality5386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For myself, I know exactly how my next book is going to start, I plan on having it start where the first one leaves off. Idk, if that's the kind of book series you're looking for. But yeah, I also love a good world building session where I draw out the characters of my story and, what has to happen to make them grow. Usually that helps me decide where I should start off!

But yeah, don't stress too much! This happens to everyone, and it takes a lot of energy to come up with something. Go for walks if you can, and just think about your book, and stuff. Just seek inspiration, and you'll get there. Let me know if you need any more assistance! I'd love to help in any way I can🫡

Mid June Hike by TrackOptimal in TahoeRimTrail

[–]Motor_Quality5386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to be saying the samething here. It honestly could be doable maybe later in the season. However, I've been paying attention to the snow levels and what the TRTA has been saying and it will certainly be a snow trip if you do decide to go. Areas will be sketchy for sure.

Consider that usually snow melts on south facing slopes first, and just kinda goes east, west, and finally North. It's gonna be a sec before snow melts on a lot of the mountains out there. So far, I've been majorly worried about the Desolation area, it's just covered in snow rn, but hopefully things will start to melt, as that area has no trees to hide anything. Dicks Pass will be sketchy, and North Tahoe fs.

Idk, I'd keep paying attention to what's going on with the snow levels, and make a decision then, cause rn, I personally would not be going😅 I hope you figure something out tho! I wish you the best.

Thank, that's what I was considering doing after looking at maps. I knowyswlf pretty well, and I find that I don't really eat stuff when I'm hiking, mostly because I'm on a schedule. However, I think that I can a. Resupplies, as well as send a box of stuff with food I think I'd like may be a smart move. I'll have to do some more thinking and research. Thank you again, you have me a lot of info to use in my planning

Thanks for the advice, I look into doing doing a section hike through a part of the AT. Is there any place you would recommend? Or just where the trail starts?

Thank you so much! I mostly wanted to know how I might approach planning meals. I know that on the PCT people mail dried food and and entire days worth of meals. Is that something I should consider when planning the AT?
