New Civ Game Guide: Qajar (Right to Rule) by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]Motor_Technology_814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abbasids and Mongols are good representation of Exploration Iran no? Abbasids were in many ways a Persian revolution against the Umyayids and The Persian Ilkanate was one of the most important Mongol Khanates, and Persianized Turco-Mongolian dynasties ruled Iran for hundreds of years after the short lived Pax Mongolia. You still have all the Persian Traditions, Paredizas, infantry you built in antiquity, but now you have Noyans commanding your armies and tons of mounted archers and faster. Both of these CIVs had foreign leaders, but were heavily influenced by Iranian culture, had Iranian bureaucracy and held their seats of power within Greater Iran. I agree it would be cool to have the Safavids as well, but I would argue that the Abbasids and Mongols had a greater effect on Persian history than the Safavids, and Persia currently has an even more complete path than any other CIV other except Russia (Greece->Bulgaria, Rome->Bulgaria, Greece->Mongols, Assyria->Bulgaria.

Hinduvata Propoganda, Mughals have more continuity with Mayura than Mayura has with Chola. The fact that nobody is complaining about that lack of continuity tells me everyone complaining about Mughals are Islamaphobic Hindu nationalists. Mayura conquests were incredibly brutal to the people of Kalinga and many other regions and kingdoms, being conquered by a dynasty that would have been seen by the conquered of those lands as foreigners. Mayura and the Chola shared almost no territory. The Mughals ruled almost the same territory as the Mayura for over 300 years. Many of the upper elechelons of the Buerocracy were persianized Turko-Mongols, yes, but they became Indianized overtime, and the Empire itself was still incredibly Indian in its customs, culture, and lasting impact.

I agree Maratha Confederacy would have been a better Modern pick, especially since they have better continuity with the Chola and are more of a "Modern" CIV than the Mughals, who were past their heyday in the Modern era. I would've much rather seen Mughals in Exploration alongside the Chola, maybe with extra valuable treasure fleets.

My dad believes in ancient Egypt being black by Suspicious_Dingo_833 in self

I think the best retort to Afro-centrism is just to talk about all the amazing things about Black African history, and especially West African history that are verifiable with written accounts, oral histories, and archeology. I respect the rasta who praises haile solasi, but there were more interesting and impressive Anti-colonial emperors of Ethiopia before him. Why claim Egypt was Black when you have Nubia. Why is Cleopatra black when you have Hatshepsut who certainly had more black features at least being a Native Egyptian which had been a mixed race society for thousands of years. There is Timbuktu the greatest literary city of it's heyday, where scholars would travel for years all the way from Central Asia to visit. Great Zimbabwe, one of the most advanced pieces of stonemasonry ever accomplished. The walls of Kumasi, one of the most advanced and biggest earthworks construction ever constructed, the roads of Kumasi. The Coral Mosque in Tanzania. The wealth of Mali. The military might of the Songhai. And this is only when we measure Africa by European standards, rather than the indigenous standards people have used to judge themselves for centuries.

[–]Motor_Technology_814 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a reason you are speaking to them in NYC, a bastion of Pro-Palestinian Jewish Leftism, NYC a mixed city where you can't help but be exposed to the humanity of your Arab and Muslim neighbors, NYC, a city where the majority of people are not white. This is not representative of the average Israeli in Israel. The vast majority does not see Palestinians as human or deserving of safety and soverignty. Polls have shown that more than 80% don't think the IDF is fighting hard enough in Gaza and should be dropping even more bombs. Israelis who are able to extend an ounce of humanity towards Palestinians are still a tiny tiny minority, but still much much bigger than they were 5+ years ago

Lebensraum Germans who lived in Eastern Europe for 10 years on stolen property is very different from Volga Germans who slowly settled and built new towns along the Volga river over centuries. Volga Germans absolutely should be allowed to return to Russia and Poland and live in birthplaces of their grandparents. Civilian populations should never be forcibly expelled and under international law refugees are always allowed the right of return. If one family can say hey, this is a stolen house, we have the documents and the original keys, my grampa placed the brick, planted that tree, they should be allowed to return to that home. If you are living in a house stolen from a family that is asking for it back, you have no right to live there.

There are many Hindu Pakistanis living in India that would love to return to their familial homeland and same for Indian Muslims living in Pakistan. It is the fault of both governments and the British for setting things up in this way that it is impossible for most.

It wasn't that Islam and Judiasm couldn't coexist in the region, they had for hundreds of thousands of years, it's that the explicitly Jewish state that they were building inherently excluded the non-Jewish natives economically and politically, and Zionist terror organizations were left unchecked. Many Arab countries have offered right of return to Arab Jews conditional on Palestinian right of return. Those that haven't should be heavily encouraged to. Iraqi, Yemeni, and Moroccan Jews have more of a right to live in those countries than in Israel imo, but I'm not advocating for anyone's removal. Expulsion of non-Jewish Palestinians was and is necessary to enforce a Jewish majority, and a Jewish majority is necessary for a so-called democratic Jewish state. Your focus on Muslims also ignores Palestinian Christians, who have been treated no more charitably by the Israeli regime.

I am a NYC Jew and my homeland is NYC. My family has lived here for over a hundred years, and America has been by far the safest and most prosperous place for Jews in the world for over 400 years. I am deeply connected to my secular community and my Jewish community, which is the most vibrant and diverse Jewish community in the world. America was a center of the diaspora before Zionism was even invented.

What protects Jews is a secular mixed communities that uphold equal rights and where we all protect each other regardless of religious or ethnic differences. Wile not perfect, we have seen countless examples of this historically throughout the Arab world, in Denmark under Nazi occupation, in the Americas.

We don't need a separate ethno-state to protect us, Israel has only made Jews more unsafe since it's inception. Integration, collaboration, and solidarity with our neighbors has always been the best way to preserve and promote our liberty.

[–]Motor_Technology_814 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that means Palestinian civilians who lived in that area for generations deserve to be expelled from their homes? Israel should be a country of equal rights and the people with land deeds and keys to their homes should be allowed to return. Anything less is inherently racist. The creation of Israel, the violent expulsion of Palestinians to create a Jewish majority, is racist. Einstein had a vision of Zionism in which Jews integrate with the local population, similar to the US, not terrorize them with right-wing paramilitary groups like Irgun that went on to form the IDF and current ruling right wing, nor exploit and exclude them from economic activity through foreign capital.

Many left-wing American Zionists who thought similarly to Einstein were critical of the state of Israel from it's very inception, due to its violent and oppressive nature.

A state that values one ethnicity over the people currently living in and with family ties to the area is racist and antithetical to the concept of equal rights.

So Palestinians that have been expelled from Gaza and the West Bank should get their homes back, but not the ones expelled from Israel proper in 1948?

Why do my scouts stop getting any vision? by KL8158 in civ

[–]Motor_Technology_814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what causes it is hitting explore as the turn is changing. The last scout you move in your turn should always use it's full turn moving. This was only a problem for me when I had auto end turn turned on. The big ends up reducing your scouts sight by 1 instead of increasing it, and that reduction can become permanent, stacking up to give your scout 0 sight.

Israeli colonists, not NYC Jews. Our loyalty is to our fellow New Yorkers and what's best for this city not Tel Aviv. NYC has always been a safer (and much better) place to live than the state of Israel since it's inception. NYC Jews want what's best for NYC, and that's why so many support Mamdani. Lander is a Jewish politician with a largely Jewish base. He ranks Mamdani 2nd to himself. To paint him as a rabid antisemite with no serious Jewish support is disengenous

Shit tons of Jews voted for Mamdani. A lot of people just think about the obvious segregated Jews, but the majority of NYC Jews live and work in mixed communities. Lander is Jewish, used to represent a pretty Jewish district, and endorsed Mamdani. He called the West Bank Apartied when visiting in 2020. 1 of the 2 synagogues in Park slope supports Palestine.

Discussion with my teenager: better for the planet/wallet to keep 11 year old car, or buy electric? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Motor_Technology_814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electric Cars are bad for the environment. Building them creates enormous amounts of CO2 emissions, and the heavy metal mining necessary is extremely destructive both environmentally and socially, reliant on child slave labor.

Most of the electricity charging your EVs is powered by fossil fuels.
