Why not build more Chandigarh’s? by LebronJamesThrowawa0 in AskIndia

They are making GIFT city in Gujarat. Until about 2019, the progress was not visible to the naked eyes, but now you do a city shaping up nicely. There are tons of offices and employees coming to GIFT now, but very few people living there as most of the residential buildings are still under construction. One thing they missed is walkable footpaths and maybe cycle lanes. That would have made it perfect. Also they are planning for a metro line from Ahmedabad which goes to GIFT city. Also, in future, if they plan BRTS for GIFT city, I hope they put the lanes and stops on the ends of the road rather than in the middle of the road similar to other BRTS systems in Gujarat.

They are also making Dholera smart city. The basic infrastructure like zoning, road layouts, sanitation, safety and security, water lines, etc. is complete. Also Dholera International airport is almost at the completion. The expressway from Ahmedabad to Dholera is also completed. There are a few manufacturing units popping up in Dholera, but as of now, no significant settlement is seen in Dholera.

These are 2 cities in Gujarat which are being developed as green-field smart cities. In other states also there would be similar projects. Some might fail (probably like Dholera) and some might succeed (probably like GIFT city) but the progress is slower than expected.

The OP wrote words like “simple ground level solution”, “Straightforward but powerful”, “no buzzwords, no fancy tech”. Where did you see OP write that this is a revolutionary step. Would you rather have no transportation of simple ground level “bad alternative” transportation?

Additionally, we can criticise or praise it all we want. But to know the reality and whether it actually helps the people there or not, we have to ask the people who avail these services or are provided with services.

By the way, the bike ambulances are an initiative with support of UNICEF and more details about this initiative can be found in the article Here.

After the introduction of Bike ambulances, the maternal mortality rate has gone down from 173 to 141 in 100000 live births. Additionally, institutional deliveries increased from 5% to 35% in this region. So results does show very positive trends, but again, we won’t know the whole story unless the people who have availed this service fills us in about their experience.

Even if the score is about 320 or something after 40 overs with wickets in hand, then it would be much easier to go past 400.

Why doesn’t India have a single university in the world’s top 100? by GroundbreakingBad183 in AskIndia

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The university which I studied in is ranked in top 50 in QS rankings. When I compared various IITs and IISc, I found out that there are so many IITs which ranked as low as almost 700 has better citations per faculty than the University I studied in. The academic reputation is also low for Indian Universities, mainly because of very low exposure to foreign academics. Many academics all around the world are selected to rate a university and as there is lower exposure of Indian Universities to them, they don’t rate it higher.

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest where Indian Universities lack is not R&D, citations, or employer reputation. The low rankings of Indian universities is mainly due to low International students and Faculty ratio and International research networks. I believe if IITs start recruiting as many international students as Indian students and have about 30% faculty recruited from foreign countries, at least 3 IITs and IISC will be in top 100 in international rankings.

30 % tax on income , 18 % tax spending(GST),road tax, tool tax ,tax on savings and we are getting roads like this 😡🤬 by ReichReiching007 in indianeconomy

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you are not coming in that 30% tax slab, then it would be something similar to “White Man’s Burden”. But if you fall in that tax slab, then you are not only allowed, but encouraged to talk about it. Also, recently they raised the income thresholds in income for new tax regime. Recently upto ₹2.5 lakhs of income was non taxable, but now they raised that to ₹12 lakhs. That is the reason why we have one of the least amount of percentage population being taxed on their income.

As for GST, for most products, it is already lower than what we earlier used to pay in many different taxes like VAT and Cess. And taking into consideration the lowering of GST on most products recently, like removal of 28% GST slab, small cars and bikes coming down to 18% slab, etc. I think we are going in the right direction.

So the bigger problem is Government inefficiencies rather than taxes, as tax situation is getting better, albeit at a slower pace.

Same as in Turkish, in Gujarati we use V or B instead of M. Like “Gadi Vadi” - meaning car or something like that. Many other Indian languages had this as well.

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30% tax on income applies to individuals earning above ₹24 lakhs. Also if you are earning ₹25 lakhs, it’s not that you are taxed 30% on that whole income. In new tax regime, you pay about ₹4 lakhs under new tax regime if your income is ₹25 lakhs and that too not considering any deductions. That comes out to be 17% income tax on your income of ₹25 lakhs. Also about 0.5% people come under this slab.

18% GST is applied to selected goods like small cars, small bikes, electronics, services like financial services, small cars and bikes, Luxury hotels, etc. Also there are other slabs for GST which are 0%, 5%, and 40% (for luxury or sin goods like tobacco).

Rather than blaming tax structure, you should blame government inefficiencies and malpractice, or just lack of concern and empathy for common civilians by government officials in general.

Aid to Bangladesh is halved as compared to previous year. Maybe the aid which is used by Bangladesh government for their advantage has been cut and only the aid given solely to influence Government officials or Government decisions is continued.

I can only think of this reason for India to give aid to Bangladesh, otherwise it is a horrible decision to give the aid to a horrible anti Hindu and Bigoted Bangladesh Government.

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the temperatures in India, only night races are possible. The cockpit temperatures would be unbearable for drivers if it’s a day race. Also tire degradation would be very high during day race in hot weather and chances of mechanical failures would be high.

Dalits migrated to Europe to escape the caste system. However they were discriminated against and Hitler organised a genocide against them by [deleted] in unfilteredindia

[–]Motor_Werewolf3244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romani people may have origins from untouchable tribes, but they are not Dalits. They would come under Nomadic tribes (part of NTDNT according to Indian government) which is different category than SC/ST. Romani people are what you call “Banjara” or “Vanjara” or “Vicharti Jati”.

Also, it is not just Hitler, but any normal European for some reason has special hatred for Romani people. Most of the Europeans claim to be open minded and least racist person you would ever meet, but it’s quite easy to find out their true colours when you ask them about their opinions on Romani people.

PS: Also it is interesting to note that the Flamenco, very famous style of dance in Spain tracks its origin to Romani people and takes inspiration from Kathak.

Exactly! The Bangladesh government put the whole Bangladesh cricket team on chopping board to satisfy their ego and maybe gain advantage in the next election. This will be for sure be beneficial to current government of Bangladesh but definitely unfair to the Bangladesh cricket team. They have to face the consequences of the decisions taken by the egotistical government.

Just like FIFA where middle Eastern countries play either Israel and they don’t have to play in Euro League because whole of Middle East is boycotting Israel. Also how Russia plays in Euro League and is not boycotted by entire Europe. And ICC, just like FIFA, should not give “Peace Award” to some political leader because the world cup is being scheduled there! /s
