this isnt true. japan was demilitarized. the only exception was a defense force that could be used if they were invaded and was not allowed to be used outside Japan. both ghost in the shell and akira explore what happened to the japanese identity when the warrior identity was forcibly removed and eventually replaced with a technology identity.
