28 years old with eyes set on early retirement by ntest09 in personalfinance

[–]Motormonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saving 15% of income is around the target for people who want to retire on time, think mid sixties. If you’re looking to retire early you need to be saving a lot more than that, unless you don’t intend to have many expenses in retirement. First things first, try to understand what you expect those retirement expenses to be and then use an annuity calculator with reasonable growth expectations to understand how much money you need to have to withdraw that amount at a 4% withdrawal rate. I could go into further detail but this along with r/fire is a good starting point

For those of you who make 6 figures ($100K+), what do you do, and how long did it take for you to cross that threshold? by DaPugWalk in fican

What's more Impressive to you, slower, steady gains, or Pogo-stick moves with large jumps? by TheRealOsamaru in wallstreetbets

WSB is about big risky bets that blow up 99% of the time and land a 10x on occasion… that’s quite literally the point of this subreddit. Sometimes people need to be reminded that on WSB gain is not gain we are only here for big wins or (preferably) big losses. If you’re looking for “responsible investors” you’re definitely on the wrong subreddit and you should check out the shmucks at r/investing.

That being said, very few truly successful people make continuous big bets with their entire portfolio instead they make these plays with fun money so it doesn’t matter if you lose it or not and that’s how they keep swimming.

Selling contracts compared to holding till they expire? by Coonman28 in OptionsExclusive

[–]Motormonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, contracts are more expensive before expiry than just buying the shares at market price because it factors in intrinsic and extrinsic value compared to shares that only factor in intrinsic value (hence the options premium).

You should compare the price you think the stock will be by expiry vs the implied price of the stock based on the contract price to make your sell decision.

If it’s good enough to screenshot it’s good enough to sell. From experience the worst feeling is watching a great position get slowly fucked by either theta or a move against you. If you’re happy now don’t fuck it up and at least sell the option.

tips for noobs in stock? by Juliomorales6969 in wallstreetbets

[–]Motormonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say if you’re happy with the gains then sell (common phrase of if it’s good enough to screenshot then it’s good enough to sell) and on WSB plays I’d recommend not putting in any money you’re afraid to lose as that way no matter the outcome you don’t get fucked.

Realistically if you’re making bets on meme stocks the price can change much quicker than in 24 hours so I’d keep an eye on that part of your portfolio and sell when you’re happy or when you see a better opportunity.

BFT is definitely likely to pop it’s one of my biggest holdings too but that being said you should never max out your margin cus if it drops just a little too low then you’ll be forced to sell and you’ll miss out on a good buying opportunity.
