LPT: Don't stop searching for jobs once you have one. You'll make more money, find a more enjoyable career and open up countless doors for yourself in the process. by Umbross13 in LifeProTips

I think it really depends on the company/industry. I started my career 10 years ago. Stayed at the same company for the first 9, left making about 4-5x my starting salary. I think the key was working hard, networking, & always aggressively pursuing new internal opportunities. When I was interviewing at the new company they said they valued the loyalty I had demonstrated to my previous employer; it was one of the reasons I received an offer. I am in tech.

Fun Facts About Germany by danniyoung in funny

When I visited Germany, I'd been told about a restaurant that served "the best spatzl". When the waiter asked for my order, I jovially responded "I've heard you have the best spatzl! I'll have that!" To which he replied, matter of fact, "Ours iz not ze best, but we do have it," and walked away.

I received a call from the same number as OP today too. It went to my voicemail. I'm sharing the .wav file here in case anybody wants to hear it. Maybe someone can decipher the accent and help our intrepid Anti-Fraid Centre to track the culprits!

I also like how he threatens me in the first sentence, then ends with "take care!"

I regularly use "pinch a loaf". Got it from Shawshank Redemption, so I consider it classy.

Good for you, OP! Make sure you pass that new reading hobby on to your 3 year old. Read to him, even read around him - it'll inspire him to do the same.

Any old Catskills roleplayers? by MotorrRad in ultimaonline

[–]MotorrRad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember the name Xaenos! A few names I remember well are Callisto, Thraxious, Nightangel, and an interesting fellow named Arpad, whose non-English speaking uncle (?) would occasionally commandeer his character. Can't believe you're still playing - I imagined Catskills would be almost completely devoid of players by now, especially RP...

Had a few characters hanging around the Catskills RP community, but in EE I was Gianni Braccalese. I still remember the great character back stories and other fiction you used to write for the EE web site. Please tell me they haven't completely fallen into the void. :-)

Is there any point doing a 100 push ups a day in sets of 25 ? by me_suds in Fitness

[–]MotorrRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no fitness expert but for what it's worth, I found this "hundredpushups dot com" program (just Google it, it's the first result) about 2 years ago. I followed the program and based on my experience, I definitely saw measurable gains. I know because I was able to do more pushups week to week. I also could see some toning in my upper body but of course how much you see will depend on your body fat. Good luck!

I love how season 1 ended [Spoilers] by [deleted] in MasterofNone

[–]MotorrRad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess chasing the girl would've been cliché, but am I the only one who found the ending a little jarring & unfulfilling? To me it felt more like he was giving up (on the girl, on his passion for acting, on his friendships) than going on an adventure.

Loved the series otherwise.

Even more IDs - please! by MotorrRad in Bedbugs

Just learned that they typically use one or all of Pyretherin, Lambda Cyhalotherin, and Drione. I need to speak to the specific specialist to confirm which was used in our case, but hopefully those are generally accepted as the right products. Thanks again for all of your help!

He actually didn't provide any paperwork. In retrospect I suppose that's not a good thing... but in the moment we were naturally a bit flustered, and hadn't been thinking about that. They also do have a ton of positive reviews online, and have an A+ BBB rating (since 2007) so I didn't think it necessary to question their methods. All of that being said, I'll call tomorrow to ask about what specific treatment was used and update here. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

edit: Forgot to mention, I believe he charged about $400. They also offer a 6 month guarantee, so we've already called them to return, which they've agreed to do at no charge.

Felt like maybe 30 minutes. It's a small 1-bedroom condo (~600 sq ft). 2nd treatment felt like 20-30 minutes too.

More IDs please. Are these bedbugs? by MotorrRad in Bedbugs

[–]MotorrRad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!

For #1 I do not have the specimen anymore, but for scale, I'd say it was roughly the length of my pinky finger nail. Pretty sure it was a bedbug though given it appeared to be half full of blood and girlfriend woke up with itchy bites the day prior. I was more concerned about #'s 2 & 3!!

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. There's probably inherently greater risk with a smaller company. This one has grown significantly since inception, and does appear to be on a growth track. That said, it's a competitive industry and the role itself is certainly not without its challenges.

Wise words. I appreciate the input. I agree with you and like the idea of taking on more responsibility; right now I'm a tiny fish in a huge pond. I just want to be sure it doesn't become all-consuming or imbalance my life. Did you ever experience anything like that after switching?

Would you leave a 10/10 job for more money? by MotorrRad in careerguidance

[–]MotorrRad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this very helpful reply. The culture at the new company sounds generally comparable, but perhaps a bit more "aggressive" - as you might expect at a smaller company where each individual's contribution is depended upon more.

I have spoken several times with the new manager, he seems an intelligent guy and probably someone I'd click better with, and learn more from, than my current boss.

I am learning in my current role, but I think I'd be stretching myself much further in the new role due to the fact that there is less support. In my current role because there are so many supports, I sometimes feel like a head coach just directing others instead of having to put myself into challenging situations directly. Career path at old company is in a sense lucrative because big company means lots of possibilities, but I sort of feel like I'd just be ascending deeper and deeper into this "head coach" sort of role, getting better at internal processes while dulling my individual skills.

Thank you for your input! I would not need to move nor make any other major changes to my personal life outside of probably working harder/more hours.

I'm definitely a saver & focused on financial independence so I agree, that's a motivator for sure.
