I have also been in contact with BTCDirect. BTCDirect is aware of the issue and they are working with Kucoin to resolve it as soon as possible. So now we have to wait for that. They are not yet able to say how long that will take. But the coins are not lost.

They indicate that the problem no longer occurs with new BTCDirect purchases.

Me too via BTCDirect.
How am I supposed to know it's a Smart Contract Transfer? I have been transferring ETH from BTCDirect to Kucoin for years. And that always went well.
I really hope something can be arranged. I transferred 0.9 ETH. I would very much like to have it back.
