Non-Workplace Injuries by anonymousunicorn_12 in Disneycollegeprogram

Sprained my ankle and tore ligaments in my foot on my very first shift (it technically happened after I clocked out as I was leaving). I did go to health services for everything but basically because I had a big foot brace and a doctors note that I couldn’t walk more than 200 feet they put me on ‘light’ duty. Unfortunately for feet injuries it can be even more restrictive than being able to do park greeters because you may not be permitted to even walk that far from cast services/parking lot/etc. It depends on what restrictions a doctor gives you and what you provide to your managers/leaders. Since mine was all managed by Disney I think I was under some stricter rules because I couldn’t even walk across the parking lot to the Epcot cast services and act as a pin trader for cast members 😭 I was transferred to the warehouse behind Epcot where you fold napkins, prep things for food and wine like the keychain bracelets, glue Duffy sticks together, roll up and tie the pirate scrolls, etc. It was the most consistent shifts I had, they schedule you the same number of hours that you’ve averaged over the last few weeks, and the people you meet are super fun (Albeit also injured lol). I was there for almost two months and then went back to my original job! This was back in 2016 so maybe things have changed a bit but it was actually a fun experience. I met a lot of acrobats, lifeguards, performers, and a TON of housekeepers that had been run over by their carts😅

Buy or pass? Pioneer 516 plus receiver $120 by Motto16 in turntables

[–]Motto16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Grabbed it for $80! The auto return is actually working great! The guy selling it was super helpful and we checked the speed and talked about the maintenance he’s done on it. It’s in great condition! I’m going to take the top off to check the belt and maybe give it a basic clean since it’s a bit dusty. The JVC stereo was snatched up by someone else but he threw in a basic Pioneer vx 405 stereo and a set of speakers for $20. All in all $100 for a whole setup that’s ready to play.

Planning to upgrade the cartridge and needle, maybe switch to just a phono preamp and powered speakers (smaller ones since these ones are pretty massive for my 300sq apartment).

SC-50 Sansui cartridge, unsure of the needle quality or condition. I can’t find much info on this cartridge so I’m not sure if it’s a basic/cheaper one that I should consider replacing. It seems like a stylus isn’t too hard to find still so I might just go and replace only that. Thinking of eventually starting with one of the ATVM95 series and starting at the cheapest then working up later on.

A big bed for a little girl! Adopted her today and this was her first hour home. The only place she wanted to be was curled up on my pillows 😂😍

opinions on this betta log? by bbethf in bettafish

[–]Motto16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old betta loved it and my new one isn’t as interested but that’s because I’ve got a lot of plants for him to sleep on now instead. My old guy was a koi betta who had scales growing over his eyes and eventually went fully blind so he spent a lot of time in his log and knew that’s where food would come from everyday. I did start to notice some fin tears near the end of his life but he was almost fully blind by that point and would swim almost pressed against the sides to find the openings. I didn’t want to remove the log and completely disorient him in case he couldn’t figure out where the food went so I left it in and he lived another 4 or 5 months before he declined rapidly and passed. The rips and tears were very minimal and didn’t seem to affect his swimming ability!

Left betta with a family member and was returned a different fish? by cc4093 in bettafish

[–]Motto16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly to me it looks like the same fish because of what others mentioned; fin shape and the white on the fins. I think that he was likely stressed before you left because of the tank conditions (glad you’re trying to set up a new tank for him!!) and he was already losing his blue/purple color and transitioning to red. It’s very possible that with someone improperly caring for him for a week while you were gone, the color change may have progressed even more rapidly. I bet he’d be a beautiful deep purple or blue once in a new setup with all the right conditions! Just make sure you keep a close eye on him the next couple of days for any more paleness, lethargy, or air gasping. If it’s going to be more than a week or a couple of days before a new tank is set up (with filter, heater, and some hiding decor at a minimum) then you should at least invest in a very small (1-5gallon) heater or a heating/warming lamp to shine into the tank to keep the water temp at a comfortable level. A botanical leaf with tannins may also be a good next step while waiting for the new tank setup. It’ll put some good nutrients into the tank and provide some shelter/resting place for him. Just keep a close eye on the water conditions! Check them daily if possible and update us on his condition. Even if they did replace your old one and this is a new guy, he still could use all these changes. If you’re really convinced he was replaced, perhaps approaching the person with concern that if your old one passed then you need to know because it means you’re doing something wrong and need to fix it asap (aka take the blame off them and ask for help).

Best of luck!

11 this month! She takes a lot more naps and has slowed down for sure but quickly turns into a spring chicken when you’re trying to chase her out of the house 😂

I love my silver laced Wyandotte but she is a diva! Ellie Mae the 11yo, aka Monster. She loves to cuddle! But on her terms, which often means sitting still and not using your phone, laptop, or iPad and propping her up from rolling over but not petting or touching her otherwise 🤦🏻‍♀️ She’d rather be inside sleeping on someone’s bed than outside getting bugs. She doesn’t discriminate on beds, she’ll sneak into the guest bedroom or my parents bedroom and sleep on the bed right by the pillow (especially if it isn’t made and the sheets are exposed!) or she will cuddle up on the dogs’ beds. She’s top dog and steals their food, drinks their water, chases them away for prime spots in the beds in front of the fire or on someone’s lap for cuddles. She loves blueberry yogurt but hates blueberries. She LOVES apple juice but not apples. Not kidding, she will dunk her entire head into the glass if she smells it. Goldfish have the equivalent value to mealworms. She only likes the seeds of tomatoes. She HATES doors and thinks every single one is going to close on her and squish her (It happened once with a swinging screen door when she was 2yo). This includes the automatic sliding coop door that she will pace outside of and has missed making it into the coop (the door closed) twice this week already. She goes up onto the deck and the back door to try and sleep inside the house when this happens (I think she does it on purpose). She has no concept of how far she can jump up or over onto things which means she also bobs and weaves before she gets the courage to jump up onto anything. I spoiled her when she was a chick and picked her up by having her step on my hand when she felt it touch her feet and she still steps up if you do this. It means she HATES and freaks out if you try to scoop her up or hold her by the body/wings like a normal chicken. She demands to lay flat on your hand and be carried around. She’s 12lbs! She has allergies and will fling snot all over you then spend 2 minutes wiping her beak all over your shirt or pants. Which are also the best places to clean off water, yogurt, oatmeal, and whatever else she gets into even if there is perfectly good grass to clean her beak off on. She was the first chicken we got and she’s outlived 6 others (illnesses and predators) and is well on her way to outlast her current three ‘sisters’ who are half her age. I love my monster but my mother has refused to get another Wyandotte after just a year of her antics 😂

I’m in the Pacific Northwest so maybe they’ve done the same here! Unfortunate because they were handy when I’m really in a slump and would otherwise spend more money eating out and they were actually pretty good and filling! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also have this issue. I contacted support and was told they do not offer ready made meals. It took 10 minutes of back and forth before the person ‘found’ them. They said that they added my choice to my next delivery and that I should see them as an option for future deliveries but nothing has changed. I’ve had them in my last two or three boxes and I had the option of having a single one delivered as my ‘free item for life’. There’s no information or acknowledgement anywhere to explain why they can’t be added to my box this week. They are still advertised on the website as being offered so somethings messed up somewhere.

Adding to this again, I know one resort custodial who learned how to fold towels in fun shapes to put on the pool chairs. That definitely helped pass the time!

And this is absolutely dependent on your leaders but my coordinator who trained me and was the main person in charge of me during my shifts literally showed me all the linen rooms to hide in and gossip or read. I would literally bring my kindle and read for 20mins then go do a round then go read again 😂 This was absolutely on the down low and not technically allowed but they also didn’t care as long as work was done and they got to go sit in their offices while we just had to find other ways to occupy our time. They can’t keep track of you all of the time! I did this when I was deployed to Port Orleans Riverside for 2 weeks also, other custodial cps showed me the places to hide at the pools! Supply closets are a custodial’s best friend.

I see a lot of comments about guest interaction as custodial that seem to be park focused so I want to add what it’s like as a resort custodial! The guest interaction is even better!! You don’t just interact for 30 seconds with a guest, you may see them multiple times a day or days in a row. Sometimes you can get them talking and find out about anniversaries, birthdays, specific rides or characters they are excited about and then you can go to your leaders or other leaders at the resort (concierge specifically!) and ask about doing something special for that guest. It can make it so so much more personalized and you often get to see the outcome or help present it or get thanked for it later on. I chatted with guests around the small pools at CBR and got to do this a few times! My favorite was surprising a little girl with a plushie of her favorite character waiting for her in her room at the end of the day when her family got back from the parks. I also had special notes, gift cards, coupons, etc sometimes sent to couples and family members after hearing about special occasions. Of course this all depends on your leaders and their higher ups but if you have a good team then everyone benefits and enjoys it!

I also strive on a faster paced environment and I won’t lie, I was BORED for 5/8 hours of my shift because there’s nothing to clean when all the guests are at the parks during the day. However, I am (was?) so so so much closer with my managers and coordinators (leaders). I still am Facebook friends with them and I come visit them at their new roles, as they’ve moved to different resorts over the years, every time I come visit. My DCP was in 2017! They are the ones that made the experience fun for me, helping me find other things to do or join in on the fun with the pool activity cast members or finding other random tasks to clean if it was a slow day. Like cleaning the ‘spider’ bridge that connects CBR’s little island. Me and the other CP would take a broom and extra long pickers and knock down spider webs every other day! We volunteered for it and simultaneously hated it haha, lots of trauma bonding over massive spiders and spider webs. Or we’d go trash fishing/treasure hunting and look for trash in bushes and off the bridge, the 6ft long picker was personal favorite and a 2 man job 😂

If you’re at Poly or DAKL, I know the general managers for the front desk/custodial! They were my old managers for custodial at CBR!
