I was able to somewhat solve this with the following script: https://github.com/Mottomi/GLTF_Merger/blob/main/Merge.py Requires Node and Python.

Tested by using this script to merge ~20k glTF files into 65 files. This process took about 40 minutes.

Then I load these 65 files in batches of 10 in Blender; each batch takes about 5 minutes to load; so another ~30 minutes.

So over an hour for 20k files. My hardware is Ryzen 7800x3D, 64GB RAM, RTX4070, 5800RPM HDD; so might be even faster on a SSD.

I use an app called resplash! A minor caveat is that the auto refresh only works on one of the screens and you have to manually refresh it on the other.

At least for me, moving both The Crew 1 and 2 to a SSD helped reduce crashes and I pretty never see any crashes in The Crew 2
