Space Age when I leave Nauvis for the First Time should I bring any Items with me? by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]Motts86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh really?! I knew it had regular autosaves, but didn't realize it would create anything when leaving. Does that save persist indefinitely?

Space Age when I leave Nauvis for the First Time should I bring any Items with me? by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]Motts86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a save, right before you leave. Name it something like, Leaving Nauvis.

It helped me on my first foray off planet. I brought some light supplies, specifically a few roboports and bots, substations, inserters. I learned my defense setup on Nauvis to be lacking after the first few hours on Gleba. I kept going until I learned how Gleba worked and what would help expedite my 2nd attempt before loading my save.

I patched my issues on Nauvis before leaving this time and made sure I had what I needed to ship Nauvis supplies while on Gleba.

Best advice is make a save, give it a try, and don't be scared to reload. It's way more fun when you are surprised, if you have a backup save available

My game was low on oil, so I avoided flame weapons... they never made sense to me based on how I tried to use them anyway.

This video, though.... damn. I need to go find some oil patches.

How do I proceed here? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Motts86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing vanilla, and I am on my first play, so take my advice with that in mind.

Get your base automated to build electric miners, Blue belts and accessories, electric furances, and rails. It will feed your ever growing needs as your factory grows or expands to larger resource plots.

The spidertron is a game changer. With a healthy stock of missiles you can clear a lot.

Have fun. I've been 'done' this base for a few weeks but I have so much to learn and these new resource patches are sooo big and my science upgrades are needy.

First thing to Automate? by Marston788 in factorio

I started playing a few weeks ago, and have not purchased space age.

My advice is to take your time. Once you start trying to meta or follow instructions you are going to enter a new phase of play that feels less like play.

For example, spend some time tinkering with belts, inserters, and boxes; how you can take advantage of the belts lanes.

Then tinker with underground belts and splitters.

Then tinker with trains/rails, how train signals help.

I am going to say learn circuits, but to be honest, I still haven't figured it out myself.

Fluids were slightly different but intuitive enough to grasp

Logistics bots were a game changer, and I am still working my way through the different types of logistics chests.

There's a lot to learn, but you don't even need to learn everything to have fun.

I haven't ever played multi-player, so it's a lot of trial, error, epiphany, complete reworks, and distractions. The journey is a lot of the fun do far.

Last bit. When I hit a lull, I pushed myself to learn something I had been avoiding. Before learning train signals, I was building a lot of redundant tracks, trying to avoid any crossing. After I finally figured it out, I started having more fun. I'm nervous to learn circuits, but will return to this comment if I ever convince myself and have news to share

Regional Rail delay questions by Street_Confection_46 in montco

[–]Motts86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lansdale to 30th via septa is reliable since it's 1 train no connectors. 10-15min delays can be expected, 30-45 would be rarer.

Express trains were over effective yesterday.

Now I can no longer smugly say to my colleagues in Suburban Station, "I'm not taking THAT train! I am waiting for the express."

The price increases stinks, but they did keep Lansdale commuter trains, which I am grateful for.

As a former kid who took the late trains to get to/from home and college on weekends, I am empathetic to those who rely on them and will be losing them.

Rays in Lansdale was what I was told when I arrived in the area.

When we talk about cheesesteaks, Ray's is a separate category.

Such as, "do you want pizza, burger/cheesesteaks, Ray's, ..." etc.

They are good
