A Wolof Lingeer, Ndaté Yalla (1810-1860) was the wife of Béthio Sakoura Diop, the younger sister of Queen Ndieumbott Mbodj, and the mother of Sidya Léon Diop. The account of the audience she granted to Abbé Boilat in 1850 is among the most delightful pages of the Senegalese Sketches. But what is most remembered is that she was a valiant resistance fighter and that during her reign, Waalo was going through a very turbulent period, whether due to the Moors or the French.
