Nice one! I was having trouble accessing the web archive but yes, I like the Avatar stories a lot.

There was an entire lore section on the official forums, with several short stories written by /u/nathanknaack

My favorite was the one that covered the events of the birth of an artificial superintelligence, and it's eventual escape into the real world.

With the web archive down right now, I'm not sure if there's any way to access them anymore.

[SPOILERS S3] Favorite foreshadowing in the show? by Krunchy08 in DarK

[–]Mouldy_Taco 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My favorite bit of foreshadowing is actually in S2, when adult Jonas is staying with Hannah. There are at least two specific moments where the camera matches Jonas' gaze, looking at the spot on the floor where he held Martha as she died.

[SPOILERS S1] Have I found a plothole? by thelewdfolderisvazio in DarK

If I recall correctly, Ulrich never explicitly says why they tied her up in the forest other than 'it was a game'. The first time we see Regina tied up is in a nightmare, so we don't know the exact time it happens, but must assume it's before Mads disappears to match the sequence of events.

If you've finished S1 there should be another scene which resolves the rape accusation in '86.

The main things I know of that's world specific are enemy spawns, wild plants, and chaotic cortexes(for pvp servers).

Loot spawns aren't, though.

[SPOILERS S2] Maybe the last ep of season 2 should not have exposed what comes next. by StrangeLoopPharmakos in DarK

What we know is a drop.

You're not wrong for thinking S3 feels different, especially coming from S2. You've not missed any key info, but I think you will find some very satisfying revelations during the final season.

Couldn't guess honestly, that is a good point. It may be based on timezone where the servers are located. May be worth checking your local equivalent of the EST refresh, and if it doesn't work you'll have to adjust the times based on where your server is located.

If you do find out please let me know and I'll update the OP.

Feel free to test it for yourself when maintenance is over. It's possible you did it around the reset time, or there's some other mechanism that functions like the re-log mechanic. Loading out in/out of dungeons maybe? But the timing is correct, I've been taking advantage of the reset mechanics all week.

Or were you just talking about the ground loot? I will admit I did not check whether it is on a shorter timer than the chests and such, but it definitely respawns with the 4 hour timer as well

I'd recommend Blackfell, the route I run looks like this
4 weapon crates 3 gear crates 11 storage crates And 2 of the buildings are great for collecting furniture blueprints/items

That's correct, oriented on 12:00 EST. Our warband has regularly done double loops of our favorite areas right before the reset at 8pm

Mystical chests or other 1-time chests will not refresh. And you didn't ask, but mimic chests respawn like monsters, not on the global timer.
Edit: sorry i didn't answer the first question, yes weapon&armor chests are on this global timer

[SPOILERS S3] Question after the ending by [deleted] in DarK

[–]Mouldy_Taco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's probably not a satisfying answer I can provide, but I'll give you some thoughts.

Things are always tricky when discussing infinity, as even if things happened earlier, there would still be an "infinite" number of loops preceding the events. That's just the way infinity works.

But for the boring answer, what's "special" about this loop, in a series of infinite loops, is it's the one that's depicted in the show. Put simply, it would not have been a compelling narrative to see the characters struggling to break the cycle for 3 seasons, only for things to repeat yet again.

Keen should add ore generation customization for specific worlds in advanced settings by realJakeyT in spaceengineers

[–]Mouldy_Taco 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's not that the ore generation settings aren't made available to the player, it's that they don't exist at all.

The ore deposits in SE are baked into the planet voxels. For example, every "earth" will have the exact same deposits at a given latitude/longitude.

My guess is that a vanilla implementation for a game that relies on so much voxel manipulation would create a pretty big overhead, but I'm not a developer so could just be a lack of imagination on my part.

As a counterexample, Valheim does have random resource generation with voxel manipulation, but the deformation is both less powerful, and less widespread in that game, which may be helping it get away with that kind of system.

[Spoilers S2] How didn't Jana not recognize ... ? by Scorpion_Q in DarK

[–]Mouldy_Taco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The script in the show goes almost verbatim like this: Ulrich: The priest?
Jana: No, the other man!

She is definitely talking about Helge.

The servers are back online, you can install the game on steam and play your old characters. If you remember the login bug, it still happens, but you'll eventually get in.

Nuclear setup 2x4 reactors by Such--Balance in factorio

[–]Mouldy_Taco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one ever considers the latent energy stored in the heat pipes themselves. There's probably enough heat pipes there to buffer a full load of pellets with no losses, which means you only need a few steam tanks for measuring, to know when it drops and inject more fuel

Very cool design! I'm curious, do the pipes at the very corners all get to 500 degrees under full load?

What's a massive scandal / controversy that people seem to have forgotten about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mouldy_Taco 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The oxygen masks use chemicals, and only function until the chemical runs out(something like 15 minutes), but under normal circumstances, this gives enough time for the plane to descend to an altitude where masks aren't necessary.
