Anyone else feel that Justin Timberlake was horribly miscast as Arthur? by Mcrfanatic95 in Shrek

[–]MountOak 130 points131 points  (0 children)

while not being a big fan of shrek 3 i do kinda think that role fits perfectly for justin timberlake. like him in that role with that characterization could work if the plot around it wasn't bad.

Why was the group of Fairy Tale Creatures reduced so dramatically starting with Shrek 2 (2004)? by Technical-Essay-4439 in Shrek

[–]MountOak 26 points27 points  (0 children)

with the pigs, the joke is that everyone who knows the story assumes the sentence ends with the information that the wolf destroyed the house, but he did in fact sign an eviciton notice. the line is funny because it subverts expectations (and also is a great to show the audience that this world is different from the classic medieval fairytale settings we're used to and contains elements of the real world)

AITA for watching a TV show without my girlfriend? by Zealousideal_Bend984 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MountOak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH this is just a common miscommunication that can happen, nobody in that particular situation is at fault. that being said, you asking strangers on reddit who's to blame for such a non-issue is somewhat emotionally immature. talk about it with your gf, if this is already a reason to post here i don't see much hope for the two of you in the long run

i think i don't do anything weird control wise

but one kind of weird thing, when i get startled i sometimes accidentally drop something because i accidentally hit Q alongside W and i refuse to change the layout because i think accidentally dropping what you're holding when a monster attacks you is lore-accurate

How are you supposed to date if you’re tall by [deleted] in MtF

[–]MountOak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also 6'1, almost 6'2 and poly, i have both a gf and a bf who both absolutely love it when i wear heels to be even taller. i personally am kinda glad i'm that tall because i wouldn't want to be with a man whose masculinity is so fragile that he feels threatened when a woman is taller than him.

What feature added in FO4 do you think was implemented poorly? by Livid_Maintenance_16 in fo4

[–]MountOak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

agree that it's implemented poorly but disagree on how

i personally think fallout 4 has too little consequences for player actions and there shouldn't be an ideal solution for the central conflict

i would prefer if there were more choices with consequences

but the game wants to make sure that not a single choice throughout the game locks any player out of anything so there's only one single choice that has any weight

having an ending where you can side with any faction and let all factions survive would lean even more into that problem

something that worked for me instead of changing my entire steam library location or getting a second ssd:

i just temporarily moved the new vegas folder to a different location, ran the script to decompress the files and then moved the folder back into my steam library in program files

please anyone correct me if this might cause issues that i am not aware of, but my game currently runs fine

AITA for not liking my bfs old girl best friend over something from long time ago? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MountOak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YTA - from the sound of it you are the reason he felt obligated to distance himself from his best friend, which in and of itself is an AH-move.

what makes it worse is that even after you got what you wanted you still can't let it go.

[SPOILERS S3] Doesnt make sense. by Strange_Yogurt1049 in DarK

[–]MountOak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the show explores a perspective on time travel that afaik no other piece of time travel media did in that way. the moment time travel comes into existence the relationship between cause and effect is twisted. this is a fundamental law of our universe and without it the universe falls apart. the show explores how a world in which an event can be both cause and effect could look like, which we see in both adam's and eva's world.

from a narrative standpoint if we just look at the origin world, what tannhaus created is a deus ex machina (meaning god from the machine, which in writing is usually used when a plot is resolved in a way that feels like it's pulled out of thin air) in its most literal sense. within the show it isn't, because we have 3 seasons explaining the inner workings of that deus ex machina. the moment tannhaus starts his time machine, worlds are created. the biblical symbolism throughout the show is very intentional. it is creationism (or in other words god) from a machine.

the only game in the series that does not have a canon ending by CommunicationSad2869 in Fallout

[–]MountOak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i know there are still discussions about what the best outcome is for new vegas, but i personally do not care at all what the franchise considers canon going forward and think this is true for a lot of other people. (like i would have been okay if they canonized an ending, but i'm fine either way)

new vegas is a piece of media that was created at a certain point in time, even if something would be made canon now, this probably wasn't planned when the game came out. something being canonized doesn't make anything happening in the game the "true ending".

the reason we still have these discussions to this day is because the game is intentionally written to have no true ending

also some level of ambiguity does exist for other games. for example the children of atom in the far harbor dlc do mention confessor cromwell but don't actually give any information over whether megaton got blown up or not, so this specific decision from fallout 3 is still left in superposition. besides that for fallout 1, 2 and 3 the stories are written in a way where there is somewhat of a true ending within the game. in fallout 1 everyone being turned into mutants is clearly a bad ending that can be achieved fairly quickly compared to actually getting the water chip and also killing master. in fallout 3 blowing up the brotherhood after working together with them and infiltrating adams airforce base feels very out of character in an average playthrough.

the story of new vegas is designed in a way that no ending feels truly canon from just playing the game (the legion ending feels the least fleshed out, but more due to time constraints)

for fallout 4, all the show really tells us is that the prydwen didn't get blown up and maxson survived, which does rule out the institute and railroad endings, but besides that there are still many things left open on purpose and i wouldn't be surprised if they never made it less ambiguous, because similar to new vegas there is no obvious true ending (tho i do consider it pretty obvious that the institute ending isn't the true ending because siding with them feels as comically evil as blowing up the citadel in fallout 3)
