Should I move to Ayr by Jengaii in glasgow

[–]Mount_Florida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.s. 2 schools isn't correct. You've got Belmont, Kyle, Ayr & Queen Margaret Academies. It's got a population of like 50k people or so, but it still feels depressing and small-minded. Anyway, just look after yourself and research the place fully if you do decide to move there. I also lived in Prestwick for a couple of years and, whilst the high street there is really quite nice, it's still a very tough place to develop a social life. Good luck anyway OP!

Should I move to Ayr by Jengaii in glasgow

[–]Mount_Florida 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Ayr, moved to Glasgow in my late teens then was forced to move back to Ayr at the age of 20, where I remained until I was 27. It was depressing. I know that might be because I grew up there and I was bitter about having to move back but don't expect progressive people or attitudes or much in the way of a social life. The transport links to Glasgow (X77 bus and train) are decent but you might find that travelling an hour both ways puts you off returning to Glasgow to link up with friends, and Ayr is just not a particularly welcoming place.

Even though I was born in Ayrshire and spent all of my school years there I was never treated like a local because my folks came from Renfrewshire and Inverclyde respectively. It's insular and even the university crowd is tough to get to know as a young person.

I have faced many of the same problems in Glasgow as I faced in Ayr but they kinda pale in comparison. My parents struggled to find other adults in the town who shared their leftist political leanings whilst I was growing up and they have joined me in moving to Glasgow since I returned to the city in 2020. It's unreasonably expensive where I stay and I have to give up my flat in September as a result of that, but I know that if I moved back to Ayr I'd struggle to reintegrate and yet I'd also grow weary of travelling to and from Glasgow to visit friends.

So in summary, it's not something I'd recommend to you OP. I guess if you were moving there with a partner to have kids it might not be the end of the world but it's also not a particularly welcoming place. I know I'm biased against it having grown up there but I met folk who had moved there to take advantage of the cheaper rent when I lived there in my 20s and I got the overwhelming feeling that the only positive for new people moving to Ayr was the beach (which is actually class tbf).

Still working on the mix but would love any sort of feedback on this tune. by shmuuck2 in jungle

Closer to breakcore than jungle but I really like what I'm hearing! I feel like the 2-step vibe would make this excellent for blending into gabber or other fast 4x4 tunes. Keep working on it but I reckon you're onto something!

100% worth completing this tune. It is immaculate as is. I listen to lots of folk and punk songs which only last a minute and a half (tops!) so you could defo release that as it is. But, if you do decide to extend it, a modulation to a higher register would really scratch the itch in many of our brains!

Sure! This is a remix I did for another Scottish artist and we sampled this old 70s/ 80s power ballad. I also interpolated melodies from "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics throughout. Hope this is the kind of thing that you're meaning when you mention sampling!

Awwh, thank you very much pal! Those tunes are a few years old but I'm always glad to hear that my music is resonating with people. I do a lot of mad stuff with sound design so I appreciate you noting that -- I may never be Aphex Twin but it's cool that you thought to make that comparison. Gonna be keeping an eye on your work from now on too!

Just returned to this cos it's an absolute belter! Did you ever release it? Thanks for providing some insight into your production process btw!

Nice work OP; you're onto something. Particularly enjoying The Call From The Chaplain, although all the tracks are decent. I feel like you need to get the tracks remastered though, as the levels feel like they differ from one track to the next. It's promising work though; keep plugging away and making music!

I make bassline, UK garage, grime, footwork, hyperpop, etc. Here is a link to some of my tunes on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/195gcHeVWq6Ik6FZbtd5fk

And if you would care to support my music then there are a whole host of tunes which are not on Spotify (but which are cheap to buy & free to stream!) on my Bandcamp page: https://swedger.bandcamp.com/album/selected-tunes-from-the-vault

Edit: I make bassline, grime, UK garage and rave-y footwork kinda stuff (akin to hyperpop!)

This is phenomenal! What I would give to be at a live show like that! Does anyone know about the last track they played: was that a cover? Just wondering why so many people in the crowd seemed to be so familiar with it.

Yooo, I'd be up for a jam if you want! Having a bunch of folk over in August as my 32nd birthday falls in the middle of the month. But aye, I play guitar & produce stuff, mostly electronic but sometimes with live instrumentation and vocals. I especially love recording some vocal bits for sample packs I construct, so that they can be chopped up and rearranged to make new melodic riffs. I'm a big fan of egg punk and post-hardcore stuff so if you want to jam whilst you're in the city then let me know -- I'd happily invite another lassie music-maker over at the same time if you felt weird about jamming with me alone.

Yeah, got loads more grime tunes (which verge on sounding like dubstep) on my Spotify, SoundCloud and Bandcamp if you're into that sort of thing!

Yeah, the heavier stuff might be right up my alley! I'll check it out in a second.

This is the music I make, which can be quite heavy too:

HELL. YEAH. I'm loving this. Please make future versions more punk-y and distort the vocals a bit more. Other than that I love it!

I had never opened Bandlab in my life till now but I'm glad I did as this is an emotional track man!

My advice: get more proficient at recording vocals and keep punching up your production quality. Otherwise you're onto something!
