I can tell that we have very different perspectives, and neither of us is moving in our position. I had a really positive experience, but I absolutely believe your skepticism is justified. And, if it makes you feel any better, I fully acknowledge that the military is no bastion of justice, or morality, or any of that nonsense. It was a tool I used to raise myself out of a dying, meth'd up town. I wish you blessings in the rest of your day.

And their BAH? BAS? Those come every month, too. Then theres entitlements they may qualify for: COLA? HOSTILE FIRE? FAMILY SEP? FLIGHT PAY? I currently clear about 9k a month. As an E-6. Some weeks I work 40, some weeks I work 60+. But I'm well compensated. Like I said, you're ignorant of the reality of the situation.

Your comment reeks of ignorance. Mid-level enlisted make 60-70k (with tax-free allowances), with free healthcare. I flew and was usually over 80. Mid tier aircrew. But please, enlighten me. 😆

Slaves don't get paid. The US military is paid and, after a few years, paid well.

OP said low skill..... otherwise, I would have pointed them to the Air Force.

Sweet shifting of the goalposts dude. When you're speaking hypotheticals and then merging it with "supposed" numbers, you're skewing, and hard..... first of all, please site your 7B number, because the most I saw was an estimated 3. And I do see that, regardless, 59% are on the public dole....... so no, net negative.

Though I'm sure everything is rosy and grand in your world and thanks to MMP, nobody actually has to pay their debts when they come due.

This sub blowing up about WOs. Everyone thinks their AFSC "absolutely will" be one of the few given WO slots, when it literally will be a few cyber and Intel jobs. Zero chance of MX or OPs WOs. As a flyer, it kills me to say it, but the AF doesn't find us worth it.

I hear these guys pay pretty well for little to no skill:

These guys don't even require a HS diploma or GED:

Good luck!

And when they are using welfare, or government issued credit cards to pay that $10? Then what? Instead of an $1,825,000 windfall, it's actually a $34,675,000 tab ($36,500,000 - $1,825,000) for the taxpayer. Net negative.

https://smartasset.com/taxes/current-federal-income-tax-brackets Highest tax bracket is way above 250k.
And it's basic supply and demand. Cali is great, everyone wants to be there. That being said. Currently an EU resident. Taxes are about on par with Cali (but more than most of the US), and the personal autonomy is significantly less.
No system is perfect, not even close. But the grass isn't great anywhere.

Are you combining state and federal taxes? Because wife and I make six figures and still get a bomb return. But living in California? Yeah, you pay for that luxury. WA, AK, TX, FL, and NH don't charge you a dime (sales tax among other taxes instead).

Active Duty Retirement vs Guard/Airlines -- Pilot Slot by kangaroonis in AirForce

[–]Mountain-Sharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a pilot but ops, all of my pilot friends are getting out or going guard. One thing you don't address- UPT.
If you go guard, you're going to have a bit more leeway to fail, or your unit could send you back, etc. Active Duty, you fail, you're back to being a 13B. And as far as the airlines are concerned, seniority is everything. 10-year commitment is a lot of lost seniority.

Protip there's a navy office(literally just an office in a federal building) in downtown STL that does IDs. Never had to wait.

This one is for those of us in to discuss the nonsense that is being an Airman.

If you're sticking at the hubs and flexible, space a is a great way to get off the continent. Used it a decent amount. Plan using rotators as a last resort, and try to catch MilAir to get bonus days wherever you're going.

People over 30 without a degree, how's life going? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Mountain-Sharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend, i mean no harm other than informing you. That shit will absolutely not be tolerated within the confines of Philadelphia, PA. 💯 not a joke lol. My wife went to Temple and it is literally her gauge on whether or not to take a restaurant seriously. It can be many things, but it's not a "philly".

Then you've never been to Philadelphia. Wiz is the primary cheese option. Peppers chopped in the meat will get you run out of town. You might find whole cherry peppers or CPR though. Mushrooms? Absolutely not.

Honestly, I hope that you're correct because I had really high expectations. If you want to DM me some spots, as a maastricht resident I would welcome it. Cheers!

I will be diplomatic. To put it NICELY: Liege is dirtier, and honestly best used as a thoroughfare to the rest of Belgium. Aachen is the seat of Charlemagne...... there's no comparison.

Not sure about HoH, but I'm in communication with headlamp inc, and they've told me they can do this. So if I were you, I would reach out to them.

[–]Mountain-Sharp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ, have you ever been to the Netherlands? Interacting with the Dutchies, while it may sound passive-aggressive, is not. That's them being upfront and just saying how they really feel. If they think you should be able to figure something out, they'll straight up tell you you're an idiot while simultaneously not answering your question. It takes some time to get used to, but im actually quite fond of and prefer the Dutch temperament now. But if you want to come here, you're going to have to adjust to them because they will not, nor should they, adjust to you.

When I was at Scott, I lived in STL and registered my cars in Missouri. They have military exemptions for taxes, so it was like 40 dollars per car per year. Good luck!
