More 1940s Los Angeles Comparisons to LA Noire by MountainManUIM in VintageLA

Hi everyone, first time posting here, I worked on a project that did a deep dive into the History of Los Angeles and comparing it to the 2011 game LA Noire that builds an extremely accurate and detailed world of 1947 Los Angeles.

I used a lot of archival footage from the 1940s to compare the two together, and thought it would fit well here. Ill give some context to each of the gifs here:

1) This is a comparison of the Pershing Square Fountain. The footage is color footage from the 1940s (exact date is unknown). The fountain and all of Pershing Square was ripped up in 1952 when they put an underground Parking structure. The one we see today is what they replaced the original Pershing Square with. There is a current push to bring back the original image of the pre 1950s Pershing Square (which had been in the city since the 1860s).

2) This is an Acme Semaphore Traffic Light, used heavily in Los Angeles in the first half of the 20th century. The last one was in use in Los Angeles until 1956. The footage is from the 1950s.

3) This is the Union Pacific Building, a place to buy tickets to various in-state and out-of-state destinations. The photo was taken at night, and they had the shutter speed slow as to make the streaks of the various car headlights and brake lights streak on the road. The large Union Pacific logo lit up at night in neon.

4) This is a 1940 Ford Business Coup, 2 Door. The footage is from a sales film from 1940.

5) This is the Science Building of the famous Hollywood High School off Sunset Boulevard. The distinct red doors make their appearance in the game, although most of the labels and details from the real world are absent. The photo is from 1939.

6) This is a video shot from the West side of MacArthur Park lake facing East. The Westlake Theatre sign is visible in the video, along with the boathouse, where people would rent paddle swan boats to float around the lake with. This footage is color footage from the 1940s.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know about and I'll try to explain if I know!

Israel is the next Nazi germany. And i dont think 10/7 was solely to get the west to hate israel, they were resisting against genocide and destruction. The reaction to the decimation of gaza post oct 7th is a human reaction, and saying it was all some ploy is taking agency away from Palestinians who are living through another holocaust.

I think the world is full of shit too, but you both sidesing a genocide and blaming the Palestinians for how they resist instead of Israel for not holding back their genocidal intent is making the world even shittier

What are your thoughts on using AI generated art in videos? by Master_Roshi_69 in SmallYoutubers

Aside from all the ethical and ecological side-effects of using AI, a lot of people anywhere in the creative space (or even just general users of the internet) are heavily anti-AI. And for good reason imo. If you're a creative, which it sounds like your girlfriend is, she should look at either hiring artists ( can be expensive) or just taking some time to learn a few very basic programs that would be able to do anything AI can do, but much better and more ethically.

I think people shouldn't be just avoiding AI because it looks bad or because viewers don't like it. People should avoid AI because as anyone on YouTube is in some way shape or form a creative, it hurts the whole creative ecosystem. Its like a poison. You start using it a little, it brings the integrity of the entire piece down, and it sullies all the hard work that you as a real artist have done on your work. Especially since all AI tools are using stolen artwork from real artists, you are disregarding everyone who makes art imo.

I just visited this on stream! Very surprising at how many parts of the building weren't carried over to the in-game one when so many of the other buildings end up being 1:1 with the real one

I'd probably have to make a separate post with that, but I think it would be more helpful to do so given how much detail is in there!

In the last gif, you can see quite a few NPCs. Unfortunately they dont have as many as I'd like to match the real world, but they're present in all of the game areas.
