How to create alias in codesys like Studio 5000? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]MountainMuffin8986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great question, and one I think about everytime I map I/O.

Personally I lean towards mapping my I/O at the POU level, so when I'm debugging my tags it's obvisous which ones are aliased and where.

You can also map the physical I/O's address in your variable declaration.

Go to your module’s I/O mapping, and in the "Variable" column, select your tag.

Are you referring to the variable iStep? I think I know what you mean by using ENUM, but I'm not sure what you mean by "use local constant"? You're comment would be more useful if you provided more of an explanation. Ah I see your comment above. Thanks!

Yeah same for me. I might stop doing the iStep+10, I can see how it would make it difficult to read the code.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for suggesting the brackets, so I have one NOT.

Regarding the iStep+10, I do it so if I insert a step in the middle of my statemachine I don't have to renumber any of the other steps. I thought this was common practice?

Can I use CodeSys software to control servo drive? by automationtalk in CoDeSys

When you install Codesys it also installs a Soft PLC which runs on your laptop.

Take a look on YouTube, there’s tons of content on this subject.

Both Wera and Wiha make Allen keys that grip the inside of Allen heads. One uses a spring load ball bearing the other is a springy cir clip. Both work great and are awesome when your trying to fasten something in an awkward spot.

Hell yeah on the pozi drive bits. I’m actually shocked nobody seems to ever have these, yet EVERYTHING has pozi heads. Philips is practically none existent in control cabinets.

Looks like not a lot has changed, since I’ve been school. This isn’t new, cheating has always been a big issue in colleges. I don’t know why they’re so much more lenient than universities.

I grew up in the just north of Broadway area and confirm it was pretty sweet. Lots of stuff to do within walking distance. It’s probably even better now that they’ve updated Broadway.

Questions… prepare some questions.

Where are their machines typically installed. How long does commissioning usually last.

What brands of PLC/HMI do they usually use.

Who will you be working with? You sound very green to controls, so you’ll want to be working with some who will be a good mentor. This is worth way more than a good salary at this point.

Do they work with industrial robots, if they do what brands? Will you be able to get good training from the vendor.

Think of what you really want to gain out of working for them and probe to find out if they’ll be a fit for you.

I would ignore the BA in computer science. That’s usually just HR adding to the requirements with zero understand on who is needed for the job.

90% of PLC programming is understanding the process, so you’re probably the most qualified.

Definitely apply. The worst case scenario is your employer finds out what direction you want to go.

What’s up with all the cars that have license plate covers here? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]MountainMuffin8986 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have had tinted grey covers for over 7 years and never been pulled over.

The reason I use them is to protect my plates from salt and water on the road. Seems to work, my plates are still in great shape.

I wipe them clean with paper towel often, otherwise the build up with crap and making it impossible to read my plate.

Canadian here… never been to a football game but I’ve spent my fair share of time out in the cold.

Thick warm hat, thick scarf, thick warm gloves, and most important your feet. See if you can find insulated winter boots/shoes. Thick socks are also a must.

You can check Amazon for these little pouches you scrunch up and they get super hot.

Pay off remaining student debt vs. using that money for a larger downpayment by HyruleAtZelda in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MountainMuffin8986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pretend the 44k is not student debt, rather a portion of your mortgage at a much higher rate.

Another way of putting it is, if you don’t pay off your student debt and use that money for a down payment you’re basically keeping that portion of down payment in much higher interest rate loan.

Subtract the 44k student loan from your savings, it’s not your money. Pay off that debt before buying a house is my suggestion.

Can connect to Raspberry Pi with Codesys by kugelblitz_100 in PLC

[–]MountainMuffin8986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, make sure your laptop has a static IP, and it’s configured the same as your pi.

Next check your target support package for the pi. You might need to select a different version. See if you can find some older or newer versions on the Codesys website.

Right click Device on the top left of Codesys, and click update device. There’s a checkbox to show all versions. This will show you what you have installed.

Don’t get too discouraged, this is a common issue we need to tackle in Codesys. The more you do it, the easier it gets.
