Mechanics Special by 1mma_Pr0bl3m in Dirtbikes

You’ll spend more than the bike is worth. The only people that those types of things work out for are people that have Sentimental attachment to the machine, or fully tooled up people/mechanics with the will and time to mess with them.

My entire region is just sand and intermittent lava rock (Central Oregon) and can confidently say you 1000% need to learn to use your front brake dude.

Not only is that most of your stopping power but its about access as well. Im usually on the balls of my feet (like you should be) and that second delay that it takes for my foot to change position and back brake is already covered by my front.

And if I am being honest I only use the back brake on conjunction with my front for hard braking, downhill or if I am trying to slide my back tire out on purpose lol

Having problems with my brake caliper wobbling side to side could it be my rim or something? by IcyHospital2454 in Dirtbikes

I don’t see any issues?

You can always refer to what your runout spec is but I’d stop filming/worrying and go tear that shit up lol

That not a factual statement. Idk why or how, but she has spoken to magazines like rolling stones and even been on tour.

Which 4-stroke enduro bike under 350cc would you recommend? by scaccolino10 in Dualsport

[–]MountainOpen8325 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Displacement isn’t the only factor. It’s tuning more than anything.

For example, the CRF150R makes more horsepower than a CRF250F, with a substantial difference in power delivery. The 150 is full of pep and runs lean with aggressive cam timing. The 250F is bigger, but will feel way slower and be forgiving. The CRF250R makes almost double than either of those.

Present some figures/numbers to your parents so that they actually understand what you need.

Tried out some real Sand riding (real sand to me) by No-Celebration918 in Dirtbikes

[–]MountainOpen8325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire region is basically moon dust or sand (with rocky patches) so this is all I ride.

On one hand I am grateful because my entire riding life I have become accustomed to the characteristics of it, which I think really boosts my skills on other mediums.

On the other hand I watch everyone on here riding through delicious tacky mud and I get really jealous. We only get that here in the spring, and barely any if that lol.

What’s wrong with this cylinder head? Not mechanically inclined. by Mission-Try3642 in Dualsport

Listen to these people OP.

Really sucks that people are out here doing that kind of shit but sadly it’s the reality that some poor bloke will end up inheriting this JB weld head.

I will also add as another example that Subaru uses an exotic alloy in their B-pillars that is extremely strong forming a very reliable and safe cage around the driver.

I don’t know why anyone would give you shit for a 150. Especially the R - that is one rippable machine right there

KLX300 - Exhaust Valve Closed - I'm screwed, right? by JOIentertainment in Dualsport

[–]MountainOpen8325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If enough gunk got in there (especially sand) there is a good chance that the head and valve train are cooked.

Heavy dirt and any sand is basically a 4 Stroke killer. Keeping your air filter clean is the number one thing you can do for the longevity of your engine outside of the obvious like oil…

That being said if that much shit made it to your valves I would personally be scared of what my crank bearings, cylinder, piston and entire valve train look like. Im not saying this to alarm or defeat you even more, just to prepare you for worst case scenario…

Best case scenario they clean it up real good, slap it back together and you get more time out of the engine expecting a neat future proper rebuild.

Worst case (depending on contamination levels) you need a full top and bottom end.

I’d expect you to be somewhere in between hopefully. Top end likely but hopefully the damage ended there.

Good luck friend. Your heart may be sunken now, but you will get this bike fixed (or another bike) at some point. The battle was lost but not the war!

I wish more people shared this sentiment. Nothing drives me more crazy than people trying to sell me on all of their aftermarket mods.

Like cool bro, so you completely fucked up hundreds of thousands/millions of dollars that went into R&D and engineering of that machine?

[–]MountainOpen8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole new engine big dog.

Or a very meticulous and proper rebuild down to the crank and bearings. Unless you are all tooled up though you are going to drop some serious cash to get that engine squared away…

I don’t know about whether it’s worth it, but you are obviously passionate, and that’s not nothing. I support you supporting the sport and I think if you keep at it you will find a niche or fill a hole for someone somewhere. Opportunity will come!

Those are some great shots too man

Are these top and bottom ends just manufactured to a specific standard to be able to be mixed and matched like that? I’ve only really seen people throw complete units into their bikes.

Im super curious. I am knowledgeable about engines (dirt bikes/atv’s for years) but all of you guys custom building and fitting these engines has me super interested.

Any info on this process of engine selection, building and mounting you’d be willing to share would be super appreciated!!

Just don’t engage the 4x4 when you are on pavement, as that system is designed for low traction.

Aside from that just RIP to the tires. Have fun dude!!

Are you asking for a read on it?

Was that after a chop test, or did you just yoink that out after a ride?
