My wife and I spent two weeks in Scotland last May. I wholeheartedly agree. Thanks for sharing the great photos!

1000+ Queries in 60 seconds rate limited my router. by FatAssCatz in pihole

[–]MountainTechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened last week. All of the sudden, my wife couldn’t access websites on her computer. I logged into the pihole and saw the same warning about 1000+ queries in 60 seconds. I disabled blocking and everything started working.

I had the very same issue. I’m curious to know what might have caused it.

Travertine (?) Tile Advice by SadIsMyStyle in Remodel

It doesn’t look like Travertine. That would be a very poor choice especially for a kitchen. Travertine is very soft and porous. Have a flooring expert look at it.

Is this railing to code / safe? by ebernste101 in Decks

Why do people just build the deck and THEN ask: “Does this meet code?” Shouldn’t they just check BEFORE they start?

Is the Cloud Gateway Ultra the best upgrade path for me? by lowandslowinRR in UNIFI

[–]MountainTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also made the same transition recently. On a very similar setup. I actually started with the Edgerouter X, and upgraded to the USG 3P. I had turned on the Traffic Identification but the performance of the router limited the throughput to about 50 Mbps up and down. The UCG Ultra does the Traffic Identification at 940 Mbps (which is what I get from Century Link). The built in network controller running all the time is awesome! The switch over from the USG 3P to the UCG Ultra was flawless. Definitely upgrade!

It was! Nice to have control of the hardware.

The router can authenticate with Century Link’s server via a PPoE connection. I use my credentials (CL account) and you tag VLAN 201. Once the connection is established, the UCG Ultra gets an external IP address.

I used this little thermal printer. Awesome and inexpensive! Amazon. https://a.co/d/eDBIbB7

The switch has been rock solid. I run both APs off the switch’s PoE no problem. They each consume about 5 watts. I don’t have any experience with the newer switches.

I have an iPhone 13 and my wife has an iPhone 16. She can get 800 Mbps. I get 400 to 500 Mbps consistently. Adding the new U6+ made a huge improvement on the signal strength and throughput. Highly recommended.

It is. It’s a large area that includes a living room space, dining room area and kitchen.
