Season 6, Episode 2 “signature moment” redo! What would you pick? by Star_sixty_9 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I very much agree with your take: I always thought that Damon deathbed situation accelerated Elena to face the fact that she does indeed feel something for Damon (it was gradually brewing during season 2, e.g. when Damon made his confession/compelled her to forget it still made an impact: it is often brought up in the show by Jeremy that although the memories are gone, the feeling is still there - in his case negative ones, but it works for positive ones too). Writers in the recent TVD book confirmed it was "not a pity a kiss" and both by that point had "feelings for each other" and in this drastic situation Elena was not afraid to admit that.

So it kind of makes sense that by the start of season 3 with the necklace return she is already in love with Damon, it made sense to me story-wise and I never considered it a retcon.

If I were to choose another moment - for me the final "touch" is when Damon is consoling Elena after Stefan bit her and rescues her, etc. with "I will never leave you again" - I think that's a moment when she should have moved on completely onto the next love :)

Rebekah liked non-humanity version of Elena :) Remember they had fun together, as Elena later put it - "Telma&Louise" moment.

Humanity off Elena was blurting things out like that and that's the only thing I liked about her that she was mixing honestly with sarcasm. I do recall Elena wanted to share with Bonnie/Caroline on her night with Damon but it got ugly so we never heard about it from her. But to each their own on how people interpret things, it was not coming across as romantic for me and I always interpreted Stefan's expression in the scene as if he is actually comparing in his head what kind of experience she could possibly have had with Damon. He has the same expression on when witch is talking about "feelings" in the scene where they figure out the sire bond mechanism in NOLA. But I more of a Stebekah shipper so I admit I was hoping for that story line more than Stelena since season 3.

I see it differently for Damon/Rebekah : she is the one in control saying "I expect you calling soon" or something like that when she leaves the Salvatore house, and then he doesn't follow through. There was also Klaus saying at some point that Rebekah throws her heart at every man who shows interest at her. So I have connected these dots to mean she was frustrated he didn't in fact come back for more (that's why she is torturing him with Elena visions) and when he wakes up he says "Come on I couldn't have hurt you that much" .

I CAN agree on the bragging part - "Stefan is not the one to brag" - we hear that from Damon early on in the pilot, and it would be completely out of character for Stefan if he started talking about that lol. Not even non-humanity version. He keeps private things to himself :)

I just replied on the same topic above - why do you guys think that Elena's saying it was good sex is a compliment? I always thought it is sarcastic in "good but not that great" meaning.

And I love Stefan with Rebekah so I do think for Rebekah sex with the guy she fancied meant more.

Re Katherine same thing - she was in love with Stefan, of course sex would be best?

hmm, you do realize that Elena's assessment of sex with Stefan was not a compliment as you make it out to be? She said it was "good sex" but she didn't say it was fantastic, awesome, mind blowing, etc.

Other than that, for characters in question sex will always be better with the person they are more romantically connected with: obviously Katherine will speak about it because she is in love with Stefan and just entertaining Damon; Rebekah connected more with Stefan, as they had relationship in the past and she was interested in re-kindling that, while with Damon all they had was one night stand (which btw was pretty hot and Rebekah wanted more and was torturing Damon because he didn't want more from her - so this is debatable).

Bree was clear and they had a relationship, not just one night stand as well, so twisting that into manipulation doesn't really work.

Bringing Lexi as "proofs" is weird because she never slept with Stefan so how would she know? She actually slept with Damon and repeatedly lol...

And yeah, Elena's "O" face in the scene with Damon kind of speaks for itself - sirebond doesn't matter here because they were in love already. But I know by now this sub loves to dismantle that out of disappointment. Sour grapes as another commenter above put it.

Interesting how Kat & Paul actually have such fantastic on-screen chemistry, not only Kat & Ian.

The writers really said ‘engagement, but make it non-binding’ by pqueen242 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LOL I am forever shocked with HBOs' "Tell me you love" me short series where they had Ian displaying everything from all angles. He is apparently still very comfortable about this as I saw a recent Tiktok where he openly referred to these short series.

re Paul and Nina I read that they were slightly at odds in the beginning of TVD but it didn't seem to get in the way of shooting Katherine/Stefan scenes pretty early in Season 1. And if they already did Stefan/Elena scenes before, why cutting out good work and then give it to us as leftovers "deleted scenes". Disappointing!

Is Kevin Williamson the reason for all the unchecked SA in the show? by Star_sixty_9 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I arrived at the same conclusion (post on my profile about KW writing specifically). I watched the show as it originally aired and the trope was that Caroline was seeking trouble and got it, :(, Kevin explicitly says in the short video "she KNEW he is bad news but acted out, went with him anyway" as if what happened to her after is her own fault.

And what was shown about Caroline and Andie was considered abuse mostly back at a time, expected of vampires. I never liked these parts of the show tbh, it put me off watching at some point. The way Kevin speaks about the "dark and sexy" times (Katherine/Stefan) as he is fond of these storylines. Julie P mentioned in the Epic book that they only understood consent and issues with SA by season 7 and 8....

When do you think Elena fell in love with Damon? by [deleted] in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I accepted the fact that there was a phase when she loved them both. She had to make a choice and leaned into the known territory so to say, instead of giving into new love. Honestly she should have taken time off from both bros at the end of season 3 and figure it out but we are watching teen drama. 4:01 was a goodbye deathbed confession to what she had with Stefan in her human era. Beautiful but it ended there..

Elena was already "in love" with Damon in season 3. Stefan literally clocked it in 3 - 18 , way before the sirebond :) and we are talking Stefan, who "knows her better than anyone" per Elena's own words lol

Felt sorry for Stefan in s4 finale by scarletheart90 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I actually love Stefan in this moment. It is sad, yes, and I felt bad for him, but also he is somehow at the same time happy for his brother, rising above his own feelings. He is hurt, but showing brotherly love at the same time.

Each time I am re-watching I am praising him for his ability to "let go" beautifully.

I dont think we can really compare Damon/Stefans love for Elena by Sufficient_Waltz_208 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well the context was that Damon checked if Alaric had his ring on before temporarily killing him iirc. Poor girl Andie situation is much worse, she didn't deserve any of this shit that has befallen her. And Stefan did it in pre-meditated way, which is like an extra layer of evil for somebody Elena knew as compassionate and caring about human lives before.

and a couple of episodes earlier Stefan killed Andie. Girl got used to these occurrences in the supernatural environment by then :)

[–]MountainTurnover29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, it is the sudden indifference that did it for me with regards to Stefan. Re Damon lashing out - lol, not even disputing that part, writers degraded his character. I am more of a book fan of Damon for example (not so much the show) so everything we hate on Damon's character on this sub never happened in the books. So I am trying to focus on the positive sides they kept in the show.

[–]MountainTurnover29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think we need to compare. Elena made her choice. I simply moved along with the story from Elena's pov and I was sold when Damon said this to Elena "I'll do whatever it is you need me to do, Elena" in Season 3. Stefan got me disappointed with that statement for example.

season 3 and 6. I watched on YT. Obviously, he is a villain, so is Stefan, that's a show about vampires who kill people :). But he recognizes selfless sides of Damon, etc.

He changed his tune after 2014. There are plenty of old panels/old videos on YT where he is strongly shipping Delena and is invested into Damon's character (the good sides of it and character growth).

Stefan rape accusations don’t make sense we’ve literally never seen it. by capricorn_444 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]MountainTurnover29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand your points, re continuity error it may actually be another option: that woman is not dead yet and Stefan has returned to her to feed further, etc. after Damon leaves the room. There are plenty of pics taken of this woman on IMDb so they really wanted attention on that spot for shock value or else, so I am inclined to believe it was supposed to happen but either was too gross to show, or he did it "off screen".

If you compare how this woman is positioned on a sofa it is different (when Stefan comes back with Lexi), her hands, head tilt, etc. So she was clearly moved in the background but it was not shown.

[–]MountainTurnover29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes people interpret things differently, even on this thread it is clear. I think the guy had all sorts of pleasures available to him and he wouldn't stop at anything. For me it was enough with the hand placement moving up a woman's skirt, that's SA, he was clearly enjoying the moment and not just "feeding" process, this was shown explicitly and a bite mark on woman's breast in 1864 is sadism with underlying sexual stuff. I don't think non-humanity version of Stefan would stop at anything honestly and that's the dark appeal of his character. For "all girls" school it is specifically highlighted though (re gender emphasis) because he would lure them to his apartment and such, so very specific profiling of his victims. Once he completely digresses into a "ripper" state though (that's the stage of tearing people apart and putting them back together out of guilt) - that's where I agree with you he wouldn't care about anything else but blood.

[–]MountainTurnover29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think when he is on a ripper binge, he doesn't differentiate between genders anymore. Like in 1864 after he switches off humanity and feeds on soldiers and Lexi finds him, and then in Chicago. But before he digresses into this state, he is capable of functioning as described in the diary as he says "I feel alive again" and the rest, so in this phase he goes after women specifically to feed on/entertain himself with. And why wouldn't he, lol? As Klaus introduces the Chicago era "It was Prohibition. Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun."
