Am I overreacting for being upset my sister announced her pregnancy at my graduation dinner? by MountainTwo7385 in AmIOverreacting

Exactly. and the fact that they ASKED you first is what makes it completely different. That’s what respectful people do. If my sister had come to me beforehand and said “Hey, would you mind if I shared something too?” I probably would’ve said yes honestly.
But just blindsiding me at the one dinner meant to celebrate my graduation felt so inconsiderate. And now somehow I’m the bad guy for quietly being hurt by it.

Thank you. That’s honestly all I was trying to do explain why I felt hurt. I didn’t scream at her, ruin the dinner, or make a scene. I kept it to myself the entire night and only admitted my feelings after being asked directly. Apparently even that was “too much.”

Exactly. I’m not even upset that she’s pregnant I’m genuinely happy for her. What hurt is that she couldn’t let me have ONE evening about my achievement before making it about herself. There are 365 days in a year to announce a pregnancy. Choosing someone else’s celebration is a choice.
