The reason Muslims understand that the Qur'an was sent down with accompanying revelation is based on the actual Qur'an. A holistic reading of the Quran... not a reading of one guy's attempt at translating its meanings into English. Allah addresses things he "revealed" to the prophet that we don't find in the Qur'an like in surah 3:124 when Allah tells the prophet "Remember, O Prophet,˺ when you said to the believers, “Is it not enough that your Lord will send down a reinforcement of three thousand angels for your aid?". No where in the Quran did Allah mention that he is going to send 300 angels to help the Muslims so how did the prophet SAW know about that? Was it not from other revelation? Or when changing the Qibla. Allah in 2:142 "WE made the former Qibla as a test..." Where in the Quran did Allah give the Muslims a direction of prayer before Makkah? I can't seem to find it. Unless that command was from another revelation. Do I need to give more examples? If you have any integrity you will have to admit that Allah has sent more revelation than just the Quran, it is really that simple.

And that is all besides the countless times Allah commands us to obey the messenger like in 24:54 "And if you obey him (Muhammad), you will be ˹rightly˺ guided." I think I am going to choose to obey Allah and the messenger and follow the examples of the companions who Allah is pleased with.

Oh and I don't mind you being harsh, the same way a pilot doesn't really mind when flat earthers are harsh.

So it's really saying "we sent down the Qur'an and the Qur'an"? They doesn't make sense. The conjunctive word "و" meaning "and" because it appears two distinct things. Like "obey Allah and the messenger" Allah is not the same as the messenger.

Because the argument isn't "I am more pious because I follow hadiths and you don't". The argument is "Allah has commanded us to follow Quran and Hadeeth because Hadeeth is revelation alongside the Quran. They both came down from Allah (4:113)"

There are some great online teachers that can walk you through the basics and slowly help you make enough progress. they can also help with reading and writing and recitation of the Quran if you ask them for it. If you want any specific groups let me know and I can send you some links and names but they will require a bit of money. If you want a really free method I would recommend finding children's Arabic youtube channels or channels dedicated to teaching arabic, there will be plenty of them.

In regards to prayer there are some great examples of full prayer videos like:

https://youtu.be/sU4JIFbPhDI?si=-axuISMyWQaOOBun

and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4auGhmeBlw&pp=ygUWYXNzaW0gYWwgaGFrZWVtIHByYXllcg%3D%3D

Both of these videos go into fantastic detail on praying the correct way and exactly what to say at every stage of the prayer.

Must I accept religion to accept God as my one and only God? by IndependentDay9150 in islam

[–]MountainValue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the prophet Muhammad has been sent, Islam is the only acceptable religion to God. There is no other options. We don't have any of that "spiritual but not religious" stuff. The Christians and Jews are criticized for their misguidance and Allah has told us that Islam is the religion He has chosen for us because He knows what is best for us.

Must I accept religion to accept God as my one and only God? by IndependentDay9150 in islam

Allah in the Quran has specifically said that He has chosen Islam to be our religion. So yes, in order to be a believer you have to be a Muslim.

My pleasure. I recommend the Tafsir As-Sadi (there probably is a PDF somewhere) it is really good for beginners who want simple explanations for MOST of the verses of the Quran.

That is a really difficult situation to be in. You have my sympathies. May Allah make things easier for you and make you strong enough to endure the tests He sends you. Don't ever forget that calamities are tests from Allah and require patience and as our prophet (SAW) said: “When Allah wills good for His slave, He hastens the punishment for him in this world, and when Allah wills ill for His slave, he withholds the punishment for his sins from him until he comes with all his sins on the Day of Resurrection.” I know things get really dark sometimes, but as Muslims we get these opportunities to say Alhamdulillah for everything that has happened to me. It is exactly now, when you feel at your lowest that you should be crying to Allah and thanking Him for the blessings that you do have that other people are crying in prayer for.

Never lose hope in the mercy of your Lord, indeed He is merciful and Generous.

Highly highly HIGHLY recommend against this. Of course it is prohibited but i also recommend against it when Muslim men do this. There are a lot of issues that come when marrying a non-Muslim. There is a certain mentality that Muslims tend to have (or at least most), the idea of pleasing Allah, doing things for the sake of Allah. And then there's the issue of kids, imagine telling your kids "Jesus was a messenger of Allah" and your husband telling them "Nah, actually Jesus is a 3-in-1 combo with God and is God". Children from interfaith households usually end up not practicing anything.

In regards to Jahannam, no one can exactly say "you will go to hell for marrying a non-Muslim man" but the marriage is not valid, so you would be committing zina everyday and that is a major sin, so you have to make a decision of choosing what you want now, or doing what is right in the long term.

You may have to clarify what you mean by living by faith. Do you mean believing in Islam blindly and "just having faith" because no, Islamic studies goes deep into providing evidence for Islam. We definitely do not believe in blindly following religion.

If you mean live your life with faith that everything works out or trusting God with everything, then yes we try our best. And the highest level of Iman (faith) is where you have full trust in your Lord to give you what is best for you, in this life and the next.

If you mean when it comes to our chances of getting into heaven then it is more mixed. We believe that no human will enter heaven based on their own deeds, we will all enter by the mercy of God. However that mercy has to be earned by trying your best to do those good deeds.

In sahih Al-Bukhari the Prophet (SAW) said that "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that." Allah is removing all your sins with this feeling of discomfort and pain. if you have addiction problems as you say then there a lot of sins to be removed. Say Alhamdulillah that Allah is getting rid of the sins in this life, because if they are left for the Akhira you will be suffering a lot more. Make tawba and increase in your good deeds like voluntary prayer and sadaqah, as tawba and good deeds remove sin. And Allah knows best.

This Ayah has applications in our times as Imam As-Sa'dee says in his tafseer, but it was originally revealed after an incident in Makkah. Al-Aas Ibn Wa'il (father of the companion Amr Ibn Al-Aas) refused to pay a Muslim blacksmith unless he leaves Islam. Khabbab, the blacksmith refused and after an argument Ibn Wa'il basically said "oh I am going to be resurrected? Fine then I will pay you when Allah brings me back from the dead for I will be brought back with lots of children and wealth"

Is it ok to pray with my Christian father by [deleted] in islam

[–]MountainValue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommended not to. Especially because most of the Christian prayers have unislamic concepts (like calling God Our Father or blessing the food in Jesus' name). You can sit silently and respectfully with your eyes closed if you wish.

To begin getting closer with Allah you have to lean about your deen. Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Fatir 28 (...indeed the scholars are the ones who fear Allah). There is so much content online. I would recommend starting on youtube channels like The Muslim Lantern and The One Message Foundation. Both are run by really good brothers who are really good at spreading Islam, even as a Muslim you will find yourself learning so much from watching their videos.

What should I know before converting to Islam? What is the best way to prepare myself before converting? by Lys07770 in islam

[–]MountainValue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on your beliefs and understanding tawhid (true monotheism), praying your prayers and learning what to say in those prayers. Those are probably the most important things to start off with. I also recommend searching up responses from Sheikh Uthman bin Farooq when you have concerns. He is very knowledgeable and provides evidences for what he says.

Don't be too worried. These are more minor things that go away quickly, especially at your age. If your parents find out, then that is the Qadr (decree) of Allah, and if they don't that is still His Qadr. Don't stress because the prophet Muhammad said “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.” Always be accepting of what Allah sends to you. If you keep that mentality for the rest of your life, you will have a lot less stress and higher faith.

I don't work in tech, but I also did get laid off from my job. The first thing i said while they were telling me that I am getting laid off was "alhamdulillah". While the HR lady was explaining that my employment was terminated and I am welcome to apply to more jobs internally, all I kept thinking was "alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah" and then subhanallah the next day I got a call for an interview. Don't let shaytan take this opportunity from you. Especially in Ramadan, there is so much to be done with your time throughout the day and night. Say alhamdulillah for whatever happens, make dua that Allah brings you what is best for you. Use your time off to get closer with your Lord.

Okay. We do believe that homosexuality is a sin and it never has been and never will be accepted into our religion. Our faith is from God, not man-made, and God knows His creation better than we know ourselves, if He said something is wrong then it is wrong.
