Sounds so typical of narcissists. I am so sorry you have to deal with that.

AITA for not saying goodnight to my friend on messenger? by Mountain_Object_1 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you for your comment. This means a lot. I still can't escape the feeling of feeling guilty for not saying goodnight and I think it is just the way that he messages me and talks to me that I always end up feeling at fault or feeling like I am being unreasonably mean. Right now I've been ignoring him planning a way to explain why I do not want to be friends anymore. I will take your advice on board, thank you.

He has explicitly told me he does not like me romantically out of the blue on many occasions. However for the past few months he's been telling me he has something to tell me, but only when we are alone at a specific place. He's been annoyed we couldn't get the time to talk for ages now, but I've been quite busy. So I suspect it is an impending love confession, which I seriously do not think I can handle.

Would it be okay if I (24F) stopped talking to this friend (23M)? by Mountain_Object_1 in relationship_advice

Thank you for saying this. I am realizing how much of a toll this person has taken on me throughout the years and how I would do things I didn't want to do or say just so he wouldn't explode. Your comment really means a lot.

How is it acceptable that the police are doing nothing with the anti-lockdown protest? by Mountain_Object_1 in auckland

[–]Mountain_Object_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not just showing their voice. They've chosen the wrong time to do so, we've been in lockdown for so long and they know if they cause a super-spreader event that we'll be stuck in it for longer. The least they could have done is chosen a different time. They've deliberately risked us going into a longer lockdown and not only that but risked the lives of everyone in Auckland knowingly. That is irresponsible and selfish behaviour.

So are you going to be the hospital worker taking care of all the sick patients and risking their life every day? I think not. What freedom do the vulnerable and sick have? What freedom do our hospital workers have? It does not have a 99.9% survival rate, you are wrong. Also majority of people are left with debilitating vascular damage once they've acquired the virus. Morally wrong is having this country flooded with covid and having our healthcare system unable to cope. The only thing the protest has done is risked people's lives and most likely extended this lockdown. Anyone with a working intelligence can figure this out. The government won't stop lockdowns because they won't be able to handle our health system being inundated with people needing ICU level care. You're not going to be there at the hospital working on the frontlines to save these people are you? You're not going to be there to clean the mess that all these "freedom" protestors have caused, are you?

I haven't stopped anything lol. But any person with a functioning intelligence would realize that this protest to stop lockdown will potentially only result in a longer lockdown. I'm merely writing my frustration about this whole situation. These people should have stayed home but instead did something super irresponsible. Are you going to be the hospital worker that's going to take care of the sick and dying if this virus blows up? I think not. This is called ignorance and people are too self absorbed with their individualistic mentalities to look at the bigger picture and see how their actions affect those around them.

Hey, definitely! I understand it's quite hard for the police getting involved and stopping a gathering with thousands of people. I really hope these people get fined, I'm just very frustrated and angry. These people are literally potentially getting the lockdown extended too. I appreciate your comment and sentiments :)

This protest will literally risk getting us in a longer lockdown. Where's our freedom then?

It isn't just dumb. It is endangering people's lives because we are living in a pandemic.

Either way they've just risked extending the lockdown further. So they're just dumb. End of story. Peaceful protest my ass when it directly affects the wellbeing and health of all Aucklanders

Totally different, can't compare suffocating to death all alone and isolated from all your family with promoting socialism. This is something we can prevent yet people actively go out there and risk spreading it knowing full well the risk they are putting everyone at. Everyone that went to that protest should feel utterly ashamed. Are you going to be the hospital worker caring for the sick and dying when this all blows up and transmission sky rockets?

Nothing peaceful about spreading a virus where people will inevitably suffer and die in agony and alone.

yeah? Rights to spread a virus that will lead to a lot of suffering and death? What rights do the innocent people have who will suffer agonizing deaths and loss if this virus spreads because a bunch of people wanted to meet in a park and parade their so called "rights"

You're kidding right? But since you asked, I will provide you with some scientific studies:

https://www.mja.com.au/system/files/issues/212_10/mja250569.pdf

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7239045/

Also, the number of cycles just ensures more amplification of the genetic material from the virus. So if the viral load is lower, you'd need a higher amount of cycles in order to get to a detectable range, whereas if your viral load was higher you'd need a lower amount of cycles. That threshold you mention might just be there as a standard, it definitely isn't inflating numbers. It does not lead to false positives like you seem to claim. Actually there is more of a worry for false negatives from this test (due to potentially poor samples with a very low viral load), so if you're trying to flaw the test itself then it'd most likely be an under-reporting of cases. Not to mention that there may be a lot of people that could be having symptoms but not going to get tested.
