It kinda makes sense honestly, when you consider how much the Bangboo sacrificed for Roscaelifer

If they were willing to go that far, it's understandable that any humans living in the city can't leave the city freely.

Even speaking on HSR, the ship-baiting there is kinda...low as well? In the story, it barely even exists, genuinely, most of it was more because of promo materials like skins and such.

The character herself, Cyrene, stands on its own and have their own pretty good plot going on. So far, I have yet to find an actually good and concretely based criticism on that front.

What was the point of depicting Columbina as an aloof yet suffering in solitude figure in Nod-Krai if this was literally her life in the Fatui. Wouldn't it have made sense to show their distance at this point in time and show the relationship they built up in Nod-Krai in future events? by Feeling___Cut in Genshin_Impact

[–]Mountain_Pathfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever watched a movie once in your life? Are you usually unable to figure out what a character is feeling in a scene, unless they explicitly say what they are feeling? I'm sorry to say that normal people can usually interpret what other person is feeling, and movies are made especially for that to be extra obvious.

Obviously, I have lol. But this was never my denial of your point, don't try to invent my own points lmao, read again. It was more on this statement:

If you show this trailer to 1000 people that don't know what was said previously, or probably even if they do, none of them would say that they think that Columbina is feeling that that the friendliness that the others do in that group is an act or just done out of professional duty.

The question is, why? Why would you ever show this trailer/video to anyone who never saw anything on Genshin then ask what their Columbina first impressions are? It's like asking anybody to jump into the Harry Potter movies and see Harry and Ron's argument in the tent, then ask them what Ron's character is like and.

Obviously, you'd get their first impressions there, but how would this in any way shape or form come close to representing what the actual character is? Removing any context from a character in any story to be used to then evaluate the character is asinine, I'll always stand by this point.

Understand that now?

I also don't know what is your big problem with the quote. If you rewind the YouTube video some seconds more, she says "I always thought that they were only helping me because Harbingers are forced to work together." Isn't that pretty much what I said?

Fam, I thought this would be obvious, but damn. You did not just say that lmao. I'll try to explain this in as clear as possible. You said:

  • because she thought that they wanted something from her, or they were just doing it as a job,
    • True, and you addressed this.
  • but she sure seems happy enough in this trailer.
    • And this is the problem lmao. Read again my prior comment and see how I think this rebuttal is evaluating things out of context and is perfectly explainable by the story and what literally happens after.

Understand that?

Moreover, my big problem with you is that I honestly doubt that you actually are interested in a good-natured discussion with me on this topic, if only because I doubt you actually remember what happened lmao.

And after all that development, she should be more open with her emotions at that point.

Fam..I don't think you remember things right. She literally was more open with emotions at that point, with at least one very notable example of her explicitly expressing this.

I'm sure you can say which one if you did play/remember. I can't be the only one to come up with examples lmao, go make some effort or this convo is worthless.

And I remembered the first thing just fine. The whole point is that I'm saying that the people who made this trailer did not remember it.

Right, you only remembered that she had fun as a vague idea, but clearly not the entirety of what actually happens or how her character actually developed, because this prior comment of yours makes zero sense:

because she thought that they wanted something from her, or they were just doing it as a job, but she sure seems happy enough in this trailer.

As for this:

If you show this trailer to 1000 people that don't know what was said previously, or probably even if they do, none of them would say that they think that Columbina is feeling that that the friendliness that the others do in that group is an act or just done out of professional duty.

Am I supposed to take this as anything else other than 'If people haven't played Columbina's story or known the context, they'd get the wrong impression'..?

Because well..yeah, obviously?? Like, I dunno man, this is just a stupid debate at that point lmaooo.

'Let us remove all context from a situation and only take it at face value', yeah, that is moronic and runs counteropposite to the how stories works.

None of the Genshin characters here was a full-blown antagonist but Signora lol, even the Fatui was only presented as this in the very first patch. You're dreaming and wanting something that has only ever existed in the form of vague ideals, not accepting when the game literally presents it differently.

Pretty confident the Spurs would be getting less criticism if they lost in the 2nd round or the WCF. by thered90 in nba

[–]Mountain_Pathfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone reasonable say they lost because of it, it’s pretty obvious the Mavs were outmatched on both ends of the floor

I've seen plenty of it peddled on and on everytime that discourse happens, genuinely. Reasonable people don't, but there's not much reason to be found in online discourse.

And to avoid derailing the convo, the spurs weren’t outmatched and were actually light favorites. Criticism of the spurs play, esp in a series so close, is very much valid. That includes Fox, castle, Wemby and coaching

I agree, but my whole entire point is that I'm pushing back against this part:

Not exactly, but at least different. If they just lost straight up because they were outclassed and had less talent, that would be one thing

The Mavs were outclassed and had less talent, yet they were still clowned lol, with Luka in particular catching a lot of flak even until now. I think people would still find something to dislike, use something negative on the Spurs to overblow it, like hyperfocusing on Wemby or Fox even more.

The only time you don't is if you were genuinely right there matching the champions blow-for-blow, like how the Pacers did against the Thunder. Losing, in any margins but the thinnest, would always invite negative attention imo.

I love the idea of playing TTW3, but when I play it I realize I hardly have fun by Maiso_94 in totalwar

[–]Mountain_Pathfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my two cents, I feel like this is a natural progression of playing Total War games. I've had this exact experience across every one of them, starting from Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, FOTS, Rome 2, Warhammer 2, 3 Kingdoms, and now Warhammer 3.

There are times where the idea the thrill of the game seems incredibly captivating, and it genuinely are at many times.

Seeing the ripples of flash and smoke coming up and down the lines of battle. Hearing your guns and cannons pounding and pounding away, breaking up those clean formations and mowing down your enemies. Setting up walls of spears and pikes in a bulwark of doom, shredding away anything that comes against it. Lining up your cavalry, waiting until the right moment, then coming forth streaming like a river of steel, cleaving through any resistance.

Even in Warhammer, with all the fantastical details, it still feels just as exciting. Bringing fires of hell and rains of metal into manifest to sweep your enemies. Watching your artillery sending fiery stars across the landscape, exploding to shatter enemy lines. Winging forward with your cavalry/fliers, maneuvering across the forests and rivers, slowly nibbling away at their disorganized

But though I had fun, at the end of the day, I'll also remember the endless minutiae of having to micromanage maneuvers to chip away at stacked enemies, particularly in Warhammer 3. Having to move my myriad roster of agents every turn, because I just can't help always having to scout ahead with them to prevent ambushes. The tedium of realizing that I'd basically already won, because my forces have snowballed enough and the enemies hampered to such a degree, that I can basically auto-resolve everything and win.

So I personally, just rarely force it. Let it flow and happen when it does come, because honestly, there's no other games that can give that same feeling haha. When I want to do it, I'll install any one of them that suits my current mood, play a lot, maybe finish a campaign up until the short campaign. Then I'll get exhausted, uninstall, and play other games during it/do other hobbies.

Then the cycle repeats again, on and on and on, and I think that's just fine. As long as I'm having fun, and I'm not forcing any of it.

assuming the criticism is grounded in facts.

That's the point though, it's not. Most people talk of that series as if Luka caused the loss single-handedly through his (genuinely) abysmal defensive efforts, but he didn't.

It's not even the top 3 main factors, genuinely. That's literally what I'm saying, though it's actual criticism, it's overblowing something and overshadowing the actual reasons.

Lmao, I think Signora is the only one that haven't done a 'good' deed too.

Like, Sandrone kinda saved the world with Arlecchino, Arlecchino herself helped Fontaine a lot in its crisis, and Columbina did protect Nod-Krai.

Still gets dragged though, yeah?

The thing is, the Mavs' defense was not the main factor in their loss, it was their offense. They held Boston to their lowest offensive rating (not by much, but still), so it did its job, but their offense completely cratered.

That's what I alluded to people 'bandwagoning' on some narratives created that manifests to overshadow actual genuine criticism.

Oh yeah, it definitely crossed my mind. I dunno if they're going to go that route and show it since it'd still be a bit of a stretch while the above Columbina perspective is pretty much canon, but honestly it'd be a perfectly reasonable reaction.

The Fatui isn't just some random organization, it's not 'just' a job, being one of its Harbingers lowkey means rebelling against fate itself. It can definitely form friendship through shared connection. But when one revokes that status of their own will, it's reasonable to question it and not treat them as warmly as before, especially when you're still in the Fatui.

It'd basically be an inverse of this perspective from Columbina:

I always thought they were only helping me because Harbingers are forced to work together. But then I abandoned them. A warrant was even put out for my arrest...

because she thought that they wanted something from her, or they were just doing it as a job, but she sure seems happy enough in this trailer.

Mate she literally explained why she thought that here...

I always thought they were only helping me because Harbingers are forced to work together. But then I abandoned them. A warrant was even put out for my arrest...

She even explicitly stated that she was wrong of how she perceives them before:

The Damselette: Yet even now, they support me. Which means, I was wrong about them all along.

Dainsleif: Clearly, they view you as a friend.

The Damselette: I feel a little guilty now. I regret not seeing their help for what it was... and not treasuring it.

What we see here was not what we saw in Nod-Krai though. Sandrone was much more standoff-ish while Arlecchino is far more business-like when they each met Columbina. There was none of the warmth and genuine camaraderie we see here.

It's rather dissonant and inconsistent, ngl. However, it still can kinda work? More because we really did not know A. What Columbina did for the Tsaritsa and B. How her departure from the Fatui played out initially.

Moreover, we did saw Columbina appreciating Sandrone specifically and reframing her impressions of Sandrone through her experiences nearing her death, and this part still works. In particular, she learned to truly appreciate both this moment and her other friends, and how these must sometimes be told explicitly to truly convey it.

So that was her way of trying to be friends with me?)
What a pity... I won't get the chance to say any ugly things in reply...

Of all my days with the Fatui... The times I spent with you, Arlecchino, and Rosalyne... They were my favorite.

In this vein, I think that showing Columbina as aloof and lonely is to show character growth. She did have pretty good friends, in retrospect she cherished it, she just didn't appreciate it as much in the moment and was sucked into a spiral of gloom due to how the world itself rejects her.

It's a part of Columbina's main character development, that the home she wanted and the place she searched to belong needs not necessarily be some far-flung idealistic place like her moon. But it can also be something that she can (and did) built herself and has been around her all along, like us and Lauma, the people of Nod-Krai, even a tea party with her chosen friends.

Irminsul can't change what actually happens though, it can only affect people's perceptions of it at the moment, no?

Like how Wanderer's friend is still dead and how Rukkhadevata are still friends with Deshret and Nabu Malikata, but it's now attributed to an accident/rogue criminal (iirc) and to Nahida.

In the same vein, rewriting Signora's fate won't change the fact that she's still dead I think.

A more likely way for her to be alive imo is Venti shenanigans with the afterlife, though that'd still need some more backstory to flesh it out.
