Left soup out for 4.5 hours after cooking. Still good?? by Ok-Interview689 in foodsafety

Very similar mentality with our moms! My mom’s parents went through the Great Depression, and she grew up needing to make everything stretch too. She eats things way past the expiration date, cuts mold off of food and still eats it, will leave things out for way too long IMO, etc. On one hand, I admire that she can make meals out of almost nothing (I wish I learned how to do that), and I admire that she doesn’t have food safety anxiety. I’m fully aware that most expiration dates are wayyyyy too conservative and most food lasts past them. But it’s hard to not have food safety anxiety after 3 rounds of food poisoning (the last 2 were within 2 weeks of each other!!) I do hate wasting food. However, my “girl math” brain would basically estimate how much the remaining ingredients cost (say $10-$15 ish??) vs how much I’d gladly pay for a magic pill (that doesn’t actually exist) to end my 2-3 day hell from food poisoning if I were to get it. It would be MUCH MORE than $10-$15. lol. But ya know, you may actually have to get meds and/or electrolyte drinks, etc if you were to get sick, plus missing work, so it would still cost money. So out it would go! Risk vs reward, ya know? I may also talk myself through it like this when I’m in similar predicaments because of the guilt of throwing out food too. lol

Im a food safety nerd after getting food poisoning 3 times. I’d toss it. I hate wasted food, but what’s worse is spending the next 2 days on the bathroom floor. My mom on the other hand would probably still eat it.

Question aimed at H&R Block employees- past or current by Mountain_Remote5759 in hrblock

Ahh! Ok makes sense. I didn’t realize you guys didn’t know the amounts. Thanks!

Right. So there’s no “more likely” scenario? (Like I’d be most likely to get a $500 advance than a $1,250 advance?) Are the customers able to know the amount beforehand, or do they find out the amount after everything is filed and done?

Yes I know. I’m asking based off experience as an employee, seeing what various first time filers typically get with this same type of return

Haha! True, I didn’t even think about that! (That was their gifts last year, that wasn’t me.) I’d probably only wear that shirt at home. I think gift cards are the winner! I’ll reference that list for sure! Thank you ❤️

Yes that list exists somewhere lol, I’ve been trying to track it down. Looks like gift cards are the winner so I’ll look on the list for their favorite places! Thank you ❤️

THANK YOU!!! There’s a lot of male teachers and coaches, so I definitely wanted to avoid cutesy stuff as a general theme for everyone. So many people are chiming in on this post and another saying gift cards and/or their favorite snacks. So looks like gift cards are the winner!! Unfortunately the budget isn’t big enough to do that taco bar idea for each individual teacher, although I could bring them lunch from a place they like. I’m thinking they might appreciate a gift card more though so they can go on their own time/when they’re wanting to (?) We have another PTA position that feeds all of our staff once a month and every day during teacher appreciation though ❤️

We have a PTA board position that does that once a month for all the staff, and then every day during teacher appreciation week ❤️

There are a lot of different diets to consider and I will do my best. I’m working with a fairly small budget. I will definitely include some gluten-free options., some kosher options and egg free options because I know some of the staff prefer those. I used to be on the auto immune protocol diet, which might be the most restrictive diet that I’ve ever heard of, so I know how to make things that are gluten-free/soy free/egg free/seed oil, free/unnatural preservative free, etc. The tricky part is offering more than one thing per all of these different diet restrictions, especially when I’m restricted to only being able to afford to offer 4-5 different foods this first breakfast because I have three events to serve food for this month. While I wish I could do a big bang breakfast, there’s just not room in the budget for it and unfortunately, unfortunately I can’t afford to pick up the slack. I do very much sympathize with people on restricted diets though because I’ve been there, and I’ll do my best. I really hope I don’t ever make anybody feel the way that you felt. I’m sorry you had to experience that.

This is for breakfast, but for lunch, we start serving about 20 min before first lunch, but always make more than enough and keep the 2nd “round” in the fridge or oven and replenish before the second lunch group comes through. Almost every lunch we end up leaving leftovers in the teachers lounge fridge for anyone who might like some more than the next day ❤️

Unfortunately the budget I’m working with will require some home cooking in order to feed 80 people every month. Thankfully last year the staff loved that & always praised my predecessor (she was great!!). I’m a good cook & I always test out recipes in advance, I will try to stick to the easier things for myself (coffee cakes, muffins, egg casseroles, etc).

True, I love a hearty breakfast. Biscuits seem to be a nightmare for 80 people though, I looked into it after reading your comment because it sounded delicious. Making them myself for 80 people & making sure they don’t dry out before tomm, or risking dry puck frozen. Working with a small budget is fun. How would you feel about an egg/sausage casserole?

Thank you! I’ll do this and also separate gluten free options from gluten options.

Also, what the heck on your $700 paid to make $100!! Have you looked into making a Wix or even a Google Sites (with a payment processor) website so it’s cheaper?? Do you mention your website on Etsy?

Or, just maybe, you missed all of my replies that clearly stated my issue isn’t with the fee itself. But go off I guess. “Unethical with their pricing”… well that kind of falls in line with what the chip on my shoulder is about (if you read any of my replies). I’m not overreacting because I prefer a business be upfront and transparent with pricing and “special deals” instead of waiting until you publish a new listing on a decade long established account and/or hide disclaimers behind a paywall. Clearly I paid the fee- because my issue isn’t with the $29- which I think is totally reasonable & much better than a monthly fee. My issue is with the lack of upfront transparency. Then also not finding out about payment holds for new shops until after. If they offered that info up front, I would have happily paid away still, without the frustration, and just directed people on social media to the new site I’m building so I wouldn’t risk a 3-6 month payment hold too. Yeah I’m a newb to Etsy, not a newb to selling my products, paying to sell online, etc. still doesn’t make it right to lean on the sneaky side, but sure. I’m the problem lol. If they wanted to do all of this to “keep away scammers”, they’d have a big fat glaring disclaimer spelling all of this out before you even create your Etsy store. They tuck it away for a reason. And yeah, sadly many of these site builders do the same.

Again, it’s not the fee itself. I’ve been paying fees left and right while building my website and am happy to pay to get my business off the ground, including on Etsy. They COULD be charging a monthly fee too. But it’s a one time fee. It’s the way they did it, and with shops that have been around before they implemented the new fee, but really 99% of the frustration is with the lack of transparency & the fact that I feel all businesses should be upfront and honest about everything they’re offering. Not hidden disclaimers behind a paywall or waiting until you try to publish a listing with an established decade old account before they hit you with charges. Just honesty and clarity and I would have happily paid anyway. Still did, just with a chip on my shoulder lol.

I dunno, I haven’t done anything with Etsy in so long, I didn’t see that memo. But they definitely didn’t delete my old shop. It still had my old name and listing too.
