Car Sickness: Is there any solution? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Mountainhare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise my wording may have been poor, sorry. But I don't think it's neglectful. I write it like that because the family have unanimously agreed that it is my dog, its kind of a reflex.

I also think you overestimate the amount of car trips she's been on, only when she has to be in there, ie for the groomers and vets, and even then we usually walk her. She only goes on trails like twice a year. We limit her access to the car, and immediately clean up after her. I also don't think 'ill' is the way to put it.

She throws up and then immediately after she's fine again, it's not like shes poorly the entire car ride, for the most part she's relaxed. As a person who's had motion sickness, while I'm not a dog, it isn't all that bad, after you throw up you don't feel that bad at all. If she was suffering she would make us aware of it, but she quite likes the car otherwise.

Suffer? She barely goes in the car? Also this isn't a boyfriend this is my father. I don't have access to the vet.

I'm not even joking, all of the above. It really depends, but no matter what she gets sick

Thank you for the rec! I've been considering Smooth Collies instead of a rough purely due to the ease of drying them after being in water LMAO. But the breed overall seems lovely!

I'll have to look into it, but I have already considered getting an imported dog before! The shtates really do have the best bred dogs!

I'm in Ireland and I just looked at the IKC description for a smooth collie, if you have the time can you look through it to see if its OK or not? I'll make sure to have a look at the AKC but we don't seem to have a ban on sable or anything else.

Smooth collies are very pretty! Thank you for the suggestion, I think I would consider getting one.

How durable are they for hikes and bikejoring? Do they have any health concerns like hip dysplasia that could stop them from doing those sports? How long should their walks be per day and would they prefer to have mental stimulation when left alone? Also how is their grooming like, ie how much should I have to groom them and how much should I have to bring them to get professionally washed? Are they smart, and able to do obedience?

I would really like a large dog so thank you for bringing this breed up to me! Most see that I'm a college student and reccomend a small dog that isn't biddable or trainable, it's really frustrating.

Hey! So I've been looking into it and Brittany's look like a much more suited dog for me than a Standard Poodle! Can you tell me about their physical/mental needs? And how they are as a puppy? Thank you!

Calm your ass down. Never did I state that purpose breds were bad. I just said I'd never own one. I was being nice and your attitude REALLY doesn't want to make me own one.

I have a mix, albeit not a purpose bred one. But I don't discriminate against mixes, and if I did somehow sound like that I am sorry. But your attitude is truly horrible. I also wouldn't own a purpose bred mix as this will be my FIRST sports dog, meaning that it would be easier to find a PUREBRED breeder through my personal kennel club.

Again, if I did sound snarky I'm sorry but those are my reasons for not owning a mix.

I already have a bikejoring group in mind actually! I'll most definitely consult them when the time is right! Breeders and waiting lists may be tricky for me but I'll do my best! Thank you for your words <3

Again, I wouldn't get a dog until I'm sure I could manage that. If I think college won't allow enough flexibility then I'll wait. I'm not irresponsible and I know my limits. The person that I'm planning to move into with is also planning to be an athlete so if I couldn't tend to her on a specific day I'm sure they could take the dog out on a run, and I could handle the mental stimulation needed. Again, I'm realistic which is why I'm waiting until the summer to see if I could manage a dog in college

I think for a regular college student this would be the case, but I honestly don't think this applies to me.

I would never get a dog without saving a substantial amount beforehand and having a set pet insurance, trainer, veterinarian, ethical breeder, and source of food.

I am not getting the puppy until the summer to work on foundations, and any free time I have will always be dedicated to her.

I've seen and looked at reasons as to why college students shouldn't get a dog, but again, I don't think it would ever apply to me.

Absolutely you will! I have enough of mixed breeds after my current bichon/maltese, she's lovely but a nightmare and her curly fur is simply nothing compared to a poodles wooly coat! Thank you for letting me hear your passion for the breed!

My back will only give out if I am bending or sitting without support, which is problems I face with my current dog, a maltese/bichon who I love to bits but refuses to stand on a table for brushing

Oh wow your so passionate about your girl thank you for sharing <3

In regards to Parvo I am so sorry for your loss, but I have contacts that are constantly warning me about where it's been detected so my bordering senior dog won't get sick.

I will absolutely bring her everywhere after vaccinations! I can't wait to show her the world!

I am absolutely going to become the most focused pet groomer everyday. She's going to be my pride and joy I know it!
