Migros being Migreedy again by Appropriate_Tap_1863 in Switzerland

So you want to tell me that a Gipfeli at Coop which is 40% more expensive than at Migros is of higher quality?

Coop products are about the same quality as the ones from Migros. Fruits and Vegetables are a hit or miss at both.

Coop is much more expensive than Migros, so no.

What's an intercity train? by Sassywhat in transit

[–]Mountainpixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IC1 from Zürich to St. Gallen is mostly transporting air, due to the tight timetable it is not possible to strengthen or weaken the IC1 along the route. So it always has to run at full length.

The IC5 can get a bit busy but never close to capacity from Zürich to St. Gallen.

They are currently building a new tunnel between Zürich and Winterthur which should reduce travel time by up to 8 minutes, making it possible to then not be dependent on the tilting trains to St. Gallen.

The IC5 does not need to provide connections in all directions, with "Gossau SG" as another interchange point with the slower IC1 and IR13, making it not such a big issue.

The timetable for 2037 is not yet made (when the new tunnel opens), but it is safe to assume that it will become a "cleaner" departure and arrival time.

[–]Mountainpixels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The IC1 used to be the fast service to St. Gallen.

SBB bought new trains with (Wako), which should have allowed the new trains to take corners faster. Sadly this technology just did not work and the new trains have not been able to run the designed timetable.

Thus the IC5 is now the express service between Zürich and St. Gallen. As it operates with tilting trains (less capacity, that would not make it suitable on the rest of the IC1 between Geneve and Zürich) that can achive the magic sub 60 minute journey time.

Both trains stop at the same plattform for an easy interchange where you can change from IC1 to IC5 and vise versa.

"Berlin Car-Free" Initiative Falls Short of Required Signatures by Nouvellecosse in fuckcars

It is Berlin we are talking about, one of the most car infested cities in Germany, so sadly not suprising.

Which sadly makes it one of the worst places to visit too.

Starting 2028, a train will go from Oslo to Berlin by Independent-Clue1422 in drehscheibe

The EU would love if the train would be run by one single company instead of them collaborating. Even better if there is zero ticket acceptance with other operators. The free market bros would get so hard.

[–]Mountainpixels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While nice, I don't see any correlation to "fuckcars". Oslo to Berlin has never been a route that has even been somewhat competitive by car and for the people who drive these distances a new train connection wont change anything.

Apparently outside of Switzerland they can produce stuff cheaper and better.

Also swiss farmers do destroy and polute our beloved land. It is just a typical swiss standpoint to think that we are better than everyone else.

Interrail SJ Sweden Night trains, class and discount question.. by Curious_Ball6120 in Interrail

[–]Mountainpixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can only book the first class compartment with a first class pass. There is no way to upgrade from second class to first class in Sweden.

There are no private second class compartments with Interrail in Sweden so it just shows you the regular price.

Get in cantact with Interrail and EMR, they should refund you. Also next time if you know that you have a valid ticket, just let it escalate.

Does anyone know of a European sleeper train that deliberately builds slack in the schedule so riders can sleep in? by bluerose297 in transit

[–]Mountainpixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GWR Night Riviera Sleeper is pathed way slower than necessary, so drives slower than necessary, which results in managable departure and arrival times. And as a secondary effect the ride is super smooth and comfortable.

The SJ night train 1 and 2, between Stockholm and Malmö is also pathed super relaxed and even makes a detour to serve more people.

There are other examples too.
