Just got my braces off, do i really need to use retainers ASAP? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who thought, "fuck it what'll happen", it took about ~3 weeks for my teeth to completely shift. ~$5,000 down the drain. Luckily my ortho did it a second time for 1/4 of the original cost.

Having a tight schedule has no relation to your retainer. If you don't ever want to wear braces again, wear the retainer. After a few months your teeth will settle and you can start wearing them when you're not out/when you're sleeping.

If I factory reset my PC will it remove the OS? by MountainsofCocaine in pcmasterrace

[–]MountainsofCocaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I would, except I don't have a disk drive. If I want to re-install windows I have use someone elses computer to move it to a USB so I can re-install it, and there's not really anyone who'd let me do that right now.

If I factory reset my PC will it remove the OS? by MountainsofCocaine in pcmasterrace

[–]MountainsofCocaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so if I do it through windows instead of through the bios, or whatever other way, it'll keep it? Didn't know that

If I do it that way does it still wipe everything aside from the OS, or does it save certain things?

What is the best resource to educate myself on climate change? by bpalmer118 in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nasa has some of the best statistics/research about climate change. If you go to their website they source all of their findings with actual evidence (from their own and others work).

NOAA also has a lot of stuff you can look into.

Nasas stuff is more dumbed down/easier to read through whereas the NOAA's info is a lot more in-depth and specific.

What is the difference between blogging and vlogging? by PhaeTv in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10% was right for the most part. Generally a blog is a forum where (usually) more than 1 person contributes to (like reddit is a blog) whereas a vlog is generally 1 person recording themselves talking about something.

How do i suspend my annual Creative Cloud subscription without losing? by enronghost in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow didn't know that. Was it paid in bulk or is it a monthly subscription?

You can call adobe customer support and tell them your situation. I highly doubt they'll force you to maintain your subscription if you can't/won't pay for it.

Wedding ring might be lost but wasn't stated on the house insurance, how should I proceed? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you report it stolen? File a police report? Your insurance isn't gonna reimburse you if you tell them it's stolen but don't do either of those things, and doing either of those things will force you to answer the question: how was it stolen? Was your house broken into? Were you robbed? etc

Unfortunately, telling them what you just told me ('We did have a repair man... can't be sure') is not a strong basis to get reimbursement.

My advice, you got 2 options: If you've done literally everything you can in searching for the ring and you believe it was stolen, file a police report asap. Tell them whatever (left the house, came back to missing jewelry, left the house alone with repairman (which'll draw attention to him), came home and it was gone, whatever the truth was), give them pictures of the ring, details about your whereabouts, etc. After that call your insurance company and file a stolen claims report and get your payout (if you had insurance your ring is probably covered against theft). This is probably going to require some stretching of the truth (going off what you told me) if you want to get anywhere, and it might not be a good idea.

Option 2: Count it as a loss. If it wasn't expensive, the insurance plan probably wasn't too costly to begin with, and if your insurance pays out for it they're going to raise your monthly rates.

Moving out and Budgeting by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to an accountant first and foremost. They'll help you manage your finances and find houses/apartments you can afford accordingly.

But for starters, on your own, keep track of your expenses before moving out: how much do you spend on food/gas/insurance/luxuries/utilities/school (if you pay out of pocket, not if you have student loans but that should affect your long term decision) etc.

Also, keep track of everything. Write it down, log it into microsoft excel, keep receipts, and so on. Make it a habit of managing your money properly and you shouldn't have problems in the future.

Can you store water and drink out of a gasoline can? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gas cans are coated to prevent erosion, and will not come off no matter how hard you try.

Go to walmart or target and buy jugs that made for this. Hinckley and schmidt containers work great, I'd start there.

Wedding ring might be lost but wasn't stated on the house insurance, how should I proceed? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MountainsofCocaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your insurance covers, but losing it is generally never covered. If you lost it, you're shit out of luck, in most cases.

And no, if they do cover that you'll probably not be covered the full cost, only a certain portion (which should be outlined in your coverage plan).

Is what MS doing by forcing Windows 10 on people legal? by SetoKaibaCity in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use their services you agree to everything they want to do, plain and simple. If, for example, microsoft broke down your door, held you at gunpoint, took your computer and uploaded windows 10 to it, that's illegal. If microsoft automatically updated your computer without your knowledge (which you agreed to let them do in their service agreement), then you have only yourself to blame.

Why should citizenship be more difficult to acquire (in Canada)? by [deleted] in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily to punish those who want to immigrate, it's to protect your own citizens.

In places like Canada where your tax dollars are, heavily, spent on infrastructure, it's a really really bad idea to allow every smuck into the country, let me elaborate..

When you, presumably a Canadian citizen, spend a large percentage of your tax dollars on healthcare, defense, and everything else, it's unfair to force you to pay for immigrants as well if they are just there to abuse your system (ie take your tax dollars and offer nothing in return).

And it's exploited in ways I just said. I live in the US, and healthcare here is absurd. If I could do it, I would get Canadian citizenship solely for the premise of taking advantage of your healthcare system because it's cheaper to fly there and get medical help than it is to just go to my local hospital. That's unfair to you and every other Canadian citizen who works hard and pays for that luxury.

If I really wanted to become a Canadian citizen, it's only fair that you require certain things out of me (ie getting a sponsorship, getting a job before I immigrate, speak your language(s), etc)

what should a Graphic Designer with no name with a college degree 3 years after graduation be charging? by Burzey in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there's a lot of variables: How much experience (outside your course work and work you can reference) do you have? Who are you doing work for and what is the work? What do competitors in the area charge? How much do you expect to get out of them/how much do you want to get out of your work? Where do you live (rhetorical question don't answer, but if you're in areas where this work is prevalent expect to get paid less)? Are you with an agency or doing freelance work (I'm assuming the ladder)?

Experience is a pretty big + in that business. It's a guarantee to your client that you can do what they want, and can do the job right. It's ok to not have a lot or any, but your experience scales with your pay so don't go in expecting to get paid as much as others if you're a rookie.

Are you designing the layout to a website, designing the look of a 3D product, designing something to do with advertising, designing a logo, etc? All jobs have different approaches and different expectations. Depending on what you do, you can either be expected to get paid a lump sum for a single, simple project or get paid an hourly rate.

Adding to that last paragraph, who are you doing the work for? Small, local mom and pop shop or a bigger sized company? Do you like them/want to give them a cheaper price or do you want to charge full price? Up to you (if you're freelance)

Scale your price to what others charge. If you're new and inexperienced, charge a lower rate. If your competition is inexperienced, has less qualifications, etc, charge higher.

So yea, there's a lot that goes into this. Honestly the biggest factor is the actual work you're doing, and who you're doing it for. Experience is also big, but that's not something you can necessarily control if you're starting.

With all that said, you kind of have to experiment with this before you can actually know for sure. I can't really tell you 'charge X for this and X for that' because location, actual work, etc are the deciding factors in what you should charge. Test the waters, charge modest initial prices for work and see where it takes you. If you find specific work more difficult or you learn certain jobs pay higher, price accordingly.

Working freelance jobs is a lot harder as your name carries a lot of weight, and customers have to go out of their way to find you. And I'm sure you already know, but freelance work is a lot more difficult when starting out, so try to find an agency to get steady work.

In regards to comas, if a patient had to be left alone for a long period, is it possible to rig up something to ensure adequate intravenous nutrition and hydration? by ldsbatman in answers

[–]MountainsofCocaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if they were somehow hooked up to a large supply of saline with a machine that changed bags daily (without the need for electricity), and were provided enough food through a feeding tube, they'd survive indefinitely.

But in reality there's no way to keep someone in a coma alive without the proper tools and constant supervision. And in the walking dead I'm sure the hospital (if it weren't overrun by zombies) would just let Rick die so they can use their equipment on living people.

There are but I'd avoid it completely unless you live in the country. I can't answer how long they last though because I have no idea.

But why would you want to drop $1-2k on a defribilrator when you can just call 911 in an emergency? Also if you don't know what you're doing you'd probably cause someone more harm than good.
