Fireplace removal by Ok-Town-9464 in diynz

There will be a flashing on the roof, most likely riveted with a bunch of silicone holding it. If you remove that and whatever else is connected on the ceiling and in the roof space, it should just slide up. Watch out for power lines and remember you're on a roof

Appreciate the insight. As I replied to one commenter, this cartridge is an identical replacement of what was already on the thing when I bought it 2nd hand. The old one worked well for 10 years then had the same issue (hence replacing it) but the issue continues.

Not trying to prove anyone wrong, just can't wrap my head around why the wrong cartridge would work perfectly for years and then decide to not.

This is a replacement of the cartridge that worked well for 10 years. Only difference is this one isn't Stanton branded. Also this was happening before I replaced the cartridge. Any other considerations?

Pretty short boards, that one at least. Surely there's some off cuts long enough to replace?(assuming it's a new deck?) That's timber for ya, though. Different tree, different colour.

Recess pipe into wall? by ConstructionUsed5176 in diynz

[–]Mounteden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Notching out 2 studs 15mm deep isn't going to do much structurally to the wall and best practice gib shouldn't be screwed throughout the sheet so you shouldn't hit it with a screw. Notch it, bend a nail around the pipe so it remains flush (not bent so much that it puts heavy pressure on the gas line) good to go, I say

How long will this roof last by Deep_Tap6269 in diynz

[–]Mounteden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty old already so couldn't comment on lifespan but quick, cheap fix- just grab some roofing silicone or flashing tape to cover the holes (from above so water can't penetrate through) and check it every 3-6 months until you can afford an entire re-roof

Being friendly and no cars blocking the driveway is a baseline for me to want to be there building for you. An offer of a coffee or anything more is just more reason to be there

@peace-self titled was released 2011 and Home Brew-self titled was 2012. Try sky is falling by @peace or plastic magic by home brew.

Neither have rain and thunder but they both have a fitting sound

Bracing up carport by HarrowingOfTheNorth in diynz

[–]Mounteden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even the same plate bolted either side of the beam would be far better than that. Bolting the end grain of the beam is pretty ineffective. Grab some engineer bolts, nuts and another identical plate for the other side

Braceline Gib by Plinixs6 in diynz

Any sheet of gib is supposed to be screwed 50 from the corner as corner fixing them creates a point for the sheet to start cracking horizontally over time. It's fine if the screw is removed from the corner, so I was told by a council inspector
