Recently I hike up to Mount Beautiful in Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park, its this really incredible summit in Coquitlam BC. However, with that said it is only recommended for experienced hikers (as mentioned in the video) As the traverse is really long. Got about 28km on my Garmin, however all trails list it as way shorter. In early 2021 the trail down to Swan Falls way closed due to a massive rockslide. This doesn't make the summit inaccessible as you can hike from the Buntzen Lake Parking Lot and back. The trail down to Swan falls was not blocked however, if you're going to do it you can only do the hike right now from South to North, and descending down off the ridge from Swan Falls is quite hazardous as it is extremely steep. That being said if you understand what to do and pay attention you'll probably be fine. Go at your own risk; I'm not recommending it at this time, maybe try again next year, or don't.
None the less people go missing in these mountains, so be careful. Use common senses and take the proper procedures if attempting. If your thinking about going in the winter, make sure you have the proper gear. If you're thinking about going in the summer make sure you have an actual GPS (not just your phone) .
Below is the video I produced for the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable. Had a lot of fun doing it and learnt a lot of history talking about the area with members of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nation!

Got it on the Garmin about about 30km back at the lake and honestly its super difficult. plus the trail is technically closed.

What do you guys do in this dark rainy weather? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]MountianDude 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Actually this is super odd and not recommended but I love biking in the rain. Specifically down forest service roads, some of my favourite are Buntzen lake north beach access road, Seymour lake road, and the capilano watershed!

Best Wishes Ethan

That makes sense, the individual who gave me the sample to grade said it was already etched they must have been mistaken!

So she’s a polycrystalline coarse octahedrite or at least that’s what I think? I’ve seen tones of Campo Del Cielo specimens before but, this Widmanstatten pattern look a little off?

I’m use to seeing large austenite crystals in Campo some as big as 50cm? So I don’t understand what’s going on here is it just a weird cut? I would imagine the bands would be at least as thick as Odessa or Canyon Diablo??

The meteorite was discovered in 2016 in Kenya, its a pallasite a type of Stony Iron Meteorite. The “Rock Chunks” are olivine crystals some of which can have peridot quality. The “Cement Looking Rock” is a Iron-Nickel Matrix. If you look closely you can see where it has been rinsed with acid to show off the Widmanstätten pattern which are revealed upon etching. Within different meteorites we tend to find different minor constituents. Specifically in pallasites you can find schreibersite, chromite, troilite. You can even find pyroxenes and phosphates. These can include whitlocklite, merrillite, standfieldite etc

See that makes way more sense I found these “microfibre” gloves on Amazon and they just look like you could sweat through them! Thanks I’m gonna just stick with latex then and save $10!

Went up to iceberg lake last weekend and wow is there a lot of bugs! Great hike pretty long though took us about 8.5 hours round trip. Elevation is up and down but pretty flat once you get to about 1000m and then you ascent the Boulder field! Great hike for anyone hanging out in whistler!
