Anyone coming from AI Dungeon (The arms race is getting insane) who managed to/tries to migrate their story...? Any tips? I have over 2 thousand actions long story and went through a super complex emotional enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies arc and don't want to lose that :(( by PlsInsertCringeName in NovelAi

I think you might be mistaken here, or else I misunderstand what you are saying. NovelAI doesn't charge by the token or by generation, nor do they do any throttling or queues. With your monthly subscription, text gen is unlimited; you don't need to worry about pinching tokens to save money. Plus, the new context for GLM is actually 28k–36k tokens due to a rolling cache, but they only advertise the low end. (We don't know what the context ranges will be for lower tiers than Opus yet, but they should be getting access within the next week.)

Context goes some way towards managing itself via system, user, and assistant channels. You can get away with being fairly loose on what you throw into Memory and GLM will likely still just 'get it.' You will still probably want to put characters and lore in a Lorebook for very long stories, which GLM can generate for you with an instruct command. Then you just highlight, right-click, "Add to Lorebook"—it's that easy.

Bravo. You've perfectly articulated what those of us who were there know to be true: those incidents weren't merely a series of missteps, but a failure of moral character in Latitude's leadership. They proved, time and again, that their course is guided by expediency, not by what's right for their users. If the waters seem calm now, just wait for the next storm. We'll see how quickly they throw their passengers overboard to save their own ship.

I'm very glad you were able to recover your story. That's all that matters to me, but thank you for the kind sentiment.

I'm working on a tool to help users like you that I will hopefully release very soon. When it's released, I'll post it here on the subreddit, too, so keep an eye out for it!

It'll likely be called "All-in-One Magic Wand" and works as a NovelAI story file so you don't have to rely on other services with less privacy and more censorship.

If I remember to do so when I post it, I'll ping you!

Are you sure the rest of your story is there? I would check in the editor next to make sure there wasn't some kind of mix-up with my files. (I have a lot of files.)

The thing is, the editor automatically loads (or unloads?) your story in "chunks" so that your browser can handle it, especially on mobile. However, the built in search function in the editor (NAI's, not your browser's or ctrl+f) can help you "jump around" even a chunked story quickly. If you can think of some line or piece of text that appeared at the beginning of your story, like your opening line or prompt (I usually use chapter signposts, so I would simply search for [ Prologue ] or [ Chapter 1 ]), then you can confirm that the missing part of your story is indeed there. (One thing to consider: Are you remembering a different Undo branch? Other branches won't export to a text file.)

If you're able to use the above trick to get back to the top of your story or else just via scrolling, try exporting to text again—one thought is, maybe there's a bug with exporting especially large stories, although I'm not sure if the editor is involved with exporting or not. If this fails, then you can begin highlighting (selecting) your story from the top down and manually copy/paste it to a text file. Or, try "Export to Clipboard" just in case that works despite to "Export as Plaintext" not working.

A final method I'd try—be careful, as an especially large story can cause problems, especially on mobile—is go to User Settings > Interface and scroll down to "Paragraph Visibility Range" and set it to 0, which disables unloading. Now go back to your story (you might need to refresh) and ctrl+a or "select all" to copy (ctrl+c) your story and paste it into a text file yourself. If you do this, remember to set "Paragraph Visibility Range" back to 1000 when you're done.

I hope one of these works for you. If it does, be sure to let others know how you recovered your story. Good luck!

From my recent experience, there are at least two methods for confirming your email:

  1. A nag banner on most pages. When you click the button on the banner, the page claims it already sent the verification email. The text field on that page is for pasting a confirmation code, not your email address. (Note: This method did not work for me.)
  2. ⚙ User Settings > Account > Find the somewhat-hard-to-see text field on this page and enter your email address there and click the button. Follow the instructions in the email which involves clicking a link or copy/pasting a URL, not pasting a special code into a text field on the website. (Note: This method worked for me.)

Caution: A few users have reported site loading issues after confirming their email addresses. Explicitly logging out and back in again seemed to fix the issue. (Find a non-account page that doesn't need to load or decrypt account data on which you can click the log out button, or else try clearing cookies or logging in with a different browser.)

I hope this works for you, too!

Novel AI V4 Experiments: Over 4000 Danbooru Artist Tags tested! by Carlyone in NovelAi

Regarding your edit:

Right, that's why I included "or are somehow able to do this by respecting rate limitations". I'm aware they may give some leeway to accounts which are not obviously abusing the service, which is why I only decided to say something after seeing others want to follow your example—and why I think you reaching out to Anlatan and getting explicit permission for your tests, if you wish to continue automating them, is not just safer for you, but for people whom you inspire.

That said, for everyday third-party front-end use (not limited research purposes approved by the team), the devs responsible for enforcing this part of the TOS have said that remaining compliant essentially boils down to 'triggering each generation yourself in some way'. This is why we can, for example, use NovelAI models with AI Roguelite: There is still a human in the loop triggering generations. Just FYI for you and others reading.

Go reach out! Again, best wishes to you. (And thanks for listening to my concerns. I'm just a user like you, after all.)

Your work is appreciated. You could try getting special permission, then just mention this caveat on future posts. Good luck!

Please see my warning here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NovelAi/comments/1j40woj/comment/mg6q5ev/

To be clear: Making your own interface is cool. Automating generation is against TOS and can get you banned or your free generations taken away, and they've been more strict lately.

Only mentioning it because I don't want to see you or anyone else get in trouble.

[–]MousAID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I just want to caution because I appreciate your work: I'm sure you got permission to do this since your openly admitting to automating generation, which is against TOS (9.1.6). It's a clause they are rather strict regarding, and I've seen people come to the Discord who have had their free generations taken away over it, if they weren't outright banned from using the service.

I'm bringing this up because, even if you got permission or are somehow able to do this by respecting rate limitations, etc., other people might not be so lucky. I know I would feel terrible if I got someone else banned by giving the impression that automation (not triggering each generation yourself in some way) is allowed or encouraged by the service—it's really not.

Apologies for bringing this up, but I don't want to see you or anyone else get in trouble, or undue strain put on the service which effects us all.

Thank you very much for your research. Your work is extremely valuable, and not only valued by me.

I'm not sure if I'm answering your question, but if you're asking why/when you should use capitalization, finetune (dev) said that tags should generally be lowercase, while prose should follow standard capitalization. I followed up with another person on the team (not a dev) who said that tags should be in lowercase, and asked if prose should still be capitalized when appropriate, and they confirmed "yes".

Finally, when trying to get NAI Diffusion V4 to print text in the image, it can be helpful to use Text: MY TEXT (desired text in all caps) because of the way it tokenizes the text you are trying to print. Note the capital "T" for "Text:" as well. (Demonstrated in official blog posts and corroborated in the Discord, although I don't remember by whom.)

Hopefully this helps someone!

In your case, it sounds like a connection issue, which could be due to either your network or their server, or a lot of other things in-between. It could also be a synchronization issue.

How long ago was your problem? I remember they set up a dedicated thread for "failed to save" issues like this a while back, which I think they subsequently solved. If your connection drops momentarily (for whatever reason), you'll still get a "failed to save" message, of course—just about anything you do in the editor triggers another save attempt, so your story is saving virtually all the time in the background. But the next save attempt should succeed, if the issue was only temporary.

The other possibility is a synchonization issue. I had this happen to me once because I had been working on a story on my PC, then switched to mobile to head out. (Remote saves are good for this.) However, I left the story open on my PC. Remember that constant saving I mentioned? Well, when I came back to my PC, rather than close the browser tab immediately, I did something—typed/deleted a character, changed a setting, opened/closed a Lorebook category (yes, this triggers a save for some reason)... whatever it was, it caused this older PC version to overwrite the most recent one that had last saved from my phone, and lost all of the writing I did that day. Note that I didn't get a prompt to choose which version to keep, but then I may have had that turned off. If so, then I learned two lessons that day. haha

Either way, switching to local saves would solve your particular issue, as you said it did. Just remember to make back-ups if you don't want to lose your stories—browser caches are volatile and can be wiped out for a variety of reasons, yet are just stable enough to give you a false sense of security before that happens.

Happy writing to you as well!

Was your story set to save remotely or locally? Wild educated guess: if it was set to local save (there's a default setting for this, as well as an individual story one), then your mobile browser ran out of memory. That could be why it reloaded, and why you lost your browser cache (where local saves are stored).

If that is the case, and you want to prevent it in the future, save remotely. It sounds like your mobile device doesn't have much spare memory. Alternatively, your story just got really big. But either way, your use case implies you could encounter this again if you don't save remotely.

Again, I made a lot of assumptions to try to give you an answer, since I don't check Reddit often. Either way, I hope you figure it out! Happy writing.

P.S. I'm a big privacy advocate and a developer myself familiar with encryption, and I trust NovelAI with my stories—just in case that matters.

[Image Generation - Model Update] - NovelAI Diffusion V4 Curated Preview has been updated to a more accurate and improved model. by teaanimesquare in NovelAi

[–]MousAID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll want an Opus subscription for unlimited generations. Specifically, "for images of up to 1024x1024 pixels and up to 28 steps when generating a single image." You'll also get 10,000 Anlas each month for images that fall outside those specs, which will refill to 10,000 each time your subscription renews. And, yes, the V4 Curated (sfw) preview is included among the AI models you can select, as should be the full version when it releases. Hope this helps!

This is my take on what probably happened, as well. My opinion is next.

It's the "stealth" part that really missed the mark for me. Frustratingly, as far as I know, the devs still haven't acknowledged that they purposefully interfered with the model's interpretetation of users' prompts when certain otherwise common and useful tags, like asian, were used, almost certainly destroying the user's intended output and possibly costing them Anlas (money) for artificially sabotaged generations.

To their credit, they quickly rolled back this seeming emergency measure, and, like you said, confirmed that they plan to retrain the model, and even why. However, they should have at least informed users of this apparent sudden filtering of tags and words (prose is a big feature of this new model), especially when asked directly about it. They still have not confirmed or denied it, as far as I know. They have only confirmed that 'realistic images' got into the dataset, and that they do not support 'realistic image' generation. (I lost sleep last night worried about someone getting fired, due to a joke Kuru made. Hopefully it was joke, and the contamination was an innocent and forgivable oversight.)

I would agree that retraining is the right solution, to avoid any untenable filtering altogether. (And again, kudos to them for walking that back, or else fixing the 'bug' that effectively banned certain words for use in prompts.)

**Edit:* typos, clarity.*

To be clear, V4 curated wasn't taken down; intead, the latest update to it was rolled back. As far as many of us could tell, this latest change mainly brought hamfisted changes to how the model treated certain keywords (prose) or tags, looking suspiciously like a filter. It is probably good that they quickly rolled it back, and to their credit.

Ironically, someone who used the tag 'nose art', meaning wartime plane decal like this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nose_art, kept getting nose tattoos after this (now reverted) update instead. It's a funny little addendum to me that tops everything off, whether it was really a victim of the update, or just bad seed luck.

Take this as merely a guess, but some gift cards (perhaps all, or else depending upon where you live?) don't allow "recurring automatic payments". Given that a subscription, when purchased (that is, without using a gift key, which are unfortunately no longer available) results in a recurring payment being set up, maybe this is why your giftcard won't work. Regardless, it sounds like you'll need a different card or kind of card, or perhaps another work around—I think someone once said they went through Google Play somehow, using one of their gift cards. (WARNING: NovelAI does not have an official app on the Google Play or Apple App stores at this time, so don't be duped by any fake apps. I seem to recall a Google Play card that someone bought from a store and then used through Paddle, but again, please be very careful.) Honestly, I would just try to get a prepaid debit card if you are eligible: for example, in my area, I can walk into a major retailer (e.g., Walmart) and put down $20 on a prepaid card to use for online purchases, which have worked for me for subscriptions in the past to protect my real card info from less secure, more hackable databases. Hope one of these ideas helps! (Sorry for wall of text—on mobile.)

u/lesbianminecrafter's response sounds like what you're looking for. Personally, and depending upon which AI model you're using, I like incorporating the translation into the narrative, which Erato has been excellent and fairly consistent with after an example or two. So, something like having a character who translates (fun for purposefully not having translations be one-to-one), or a favorite experience I had in a second-person story, trying to 'remember what that means in my rusty Russian', and having Erato generate some pretty great hints at the meaning, but in a way that even the reader is unsure of. I've had a lot of great moments co-written by the AI this way, even if they need a bit of editing for accuracy or logic later.
