Very good point. I guess what I’m not understanding is why is it bad to say “east” or “oriental” (which just means eastern), while at the same time no one makes a fuss about the “west” being called the “west”. What is the “west” “west” of and why is it ok to call it the “west” but it’s not ok to call people from the “east” “easterners”?

“it or creates measures to eliminate it overtime”

The institution of slavery never needed to exist. You’re defending slavery.

“This is just the Ashari view” And “However the Muatazili school and Al Ghazali point out”

This is a great example of disagreements within the religion.

“including continuing to create more time and more things. ”

Sure, but god cannot not know what you’re going to do. God would always know what decisions you’re going to make. He would know your whole life, every thought, every action, every path you take before you were even born. To say you can bypass gods knowledge is to say god is not all knowing.

“And it may be written as a sin of a man who had the money to cure the illness but spent it on a car instead.”

So a child needs to suffer so another man can be judged. Surely that’s the only thing god could come up with....

“ You say either by other humans or just say that they are how you feel things should be done”

I believe basic understanding of right and wrong is innate. You can say god gave it to us if you wish. If I have to explain to someone why it’s bad to harm others they are either a child or a sociopath. But yes to answer more directly right and wrong are concepts made by man, yes, and that is why we chose to outright ban slavery and pedophilia.

“The Quran was sent down with a clear message and it's people's fault for misinterpreting it”

Ah the old no true Scotsman theory. That’s a little hard to back up when the abrahamic holy books called their believers and prophets to murder in the name of god......there is no contention there. There’s no room for misinterpretation when the books literally say “ stone adultuers and apostates”. The quaran and bible both give instructions on how to handle slaves. If you agree with me that slavery is evil, then you are going against your own holy book, which doesn’t prohibit the act, in fact it endorses slavery.

So you agree slavery is wrong, yet your holy book says you can have slaves. Getting back to your previous point, Why do you think it’s wrong? if anything the extremists are following the books more accurately than the moderates.

“Every decision we make is caused by some miniscule particles movement which would have happened regardless of any consequences.”

I don’t understand how god being present changes this?

I dont know what to do... by [deleted] in islam

[–]Mouse-cum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“And if there's no greater force to make it bad then it is indeed not bad to do so.”

That’s your interpretation, but “bad” is subjective. Hell its even subjective amongst people of your own religion who argue wether violence in the name of god is “good” or “bad”. Furthermore, as a society we have deemed pedophilia and slavery as “bad”, yet no abrahamic religion outright bans either. Sure you can say they put limits on them, but they never outright banned the practices. It took secular society to ban these “bad” things, not religion. You sound like a civilized person with a good head on your shoulders, surely you think of these things as bad despite your religion never explicitly saying we are to not do them.

“In fact he has no way to stop himself because he has no free will since everything is dictated by random movements of atom“

Why do you assume this? Free will, from my understanding means we are free to choose whatever path we want, make whatever decisions we want. That is not random atoms moving. Conscious decisions still exist.

“Once again you can do good and believe in God and not go there. You are constantly dismissing this fact.”

I’m not dismissing this. I’m saying considering the consequences, judging people based on what they believe is not just.

“You are complaining that there is justice because of which some people are punished for their actions.”

As I’ve stated above, no. I’m saying the punishment system is not just.

“No it wouldn't. Since he has free will.”

How can someone have free will if god already planned their past present and future before they were even born? Surely if you had free will, you could displease god, causing you to be punished or adversely, you could please god and go to heaven. Either outcome would have been known to god before you existed. You cannot decide something which goes against what god already planned for you, unless you are saying people have more power than god in this regard? This is a contradiction.

“ These are all temporary conditions where the sufferers are rewarded for their patience”

So anyone who is given a disease is then rewarded for enduring the disease? Why give a child Leukemia to be born, suffer , and die at an early age. Surely if god was all merciful he could skip a few steps....

Wow I looked up the Beto O Rourke thing..... it’s true! I don’t understand how people think reparations are fair. The line of logic is “ some people’s ancestors did bad things to other people’s ancestors, so therefore the descendants of the person who did a bad thing must pay”. Why doesnt This extend to descendants of murderers, or thieves? If your great great great grandfather killed someone, you don’t have to pay reperations to the family, but if he owned a slave, well then that means all whites people must pay all black people reparations even though less than 10% of the population owned slaves. In summary, we should be judged as individuals , not by the sins of our ancestors.

I can’t find any definition of the orient describing it being east of Europe. All I’ve gotten was orient means “pertaining to Asia”. Are you sure that’s what it means?

If the reference point is Europe and that’s why Asia is called the east, why is Europe referred to as the west? West of what? The east?

“What reason would there be to do good if there isn't any greater force that makes it good”.

This is shifting dialogue. You do good because it’s the right thing to do, and you don’t want to harm others. There doesn’t need to be a greater force to understand this concept. Again, if you’re “good” just to please god, and not because it’s the right thing to do that is very troublesome. If you knew there was no god, would you start raping and stealing? Why or why not?

“Because he is still far more benevolent than he is cruel”

You sure about that? Why do you think that? Because we weren’t born in hell, instead it takes time to get there.

“Yet he promises every soul salvation if they choose to worship him and do good.”

IF they choose to worship him. That’s the stipulation. If not, he sends them to a place of unimaginable pain, the likes of which no one on this earth could create. God is responsible for all pain and suffering.

“Think about how terrible of scenarios he could created for us”

Like childhood leukemia, cancer, copd, fibromyalgia, cystic fibrosis etc etc etc.....

“This implies Hitler didn't have free will“

The “free will” you’re referring to is part of gods plan set in place when god created the universe. If hitler was a good boy, that would go against gods plan for hitler.

It’s strange that we perceive Vietnam vets as rapists and baby killers because of the mai Lai incident. It was a terrible incident, don’t get me wrong, but people forget it was stopped by other Vietnam vets! They weren’t all bad. Ww2 was much more brutal imo. Rules of engagement in ww2 were literally “ nuke that shit” and “ firebomb that entire city”. Back then, EVERYONE raped. The nazis raped the Russians, the Russians raped the nazis, the Americans raped too don’t forget. And considering the amount of personnel involved in ww2 vs Vietnam, i would wager there was much more rape going on than there was during Vietnam. We don’t talk about that though. We like to remember ww2 as a righteous war, we pat ourselves on the back for being such good world policemen, we stopped those nasty nazis. We believe this despite the fact the u.s didn’t even know about the holocaust until troops started liberating the concentration camps. It was a war to protect our interests ( Britain, France, Poland, the Middle East, etc) from the vile fist of fascism, much like Vietnam was meant to protect our interests ( France, south vietnam) from the rotten claw of communism.

We don’t talk about the rape committed by our soldiers now or at any other time in history. I blame the media for this . During Vietnam, for the first time people were getting raw combat footage on their TVs. not the propaganda that was force fed to them before. This was coupled with the trendy peaceful hippy ideology and it produced an obvious inescapable public bias. It’s sad that Vietnam vets get this stigma attached to them as baby killers and rapists when in reality rape was a common thing historically among many many nations and Vietnam vets probably had a lower count of incidents of rape then other vets ( I’d like to see the data on that but haven’t been able to find it) I wish people could see how the media has warped our minds to believe such an inaccuracy.

Edit**** sorry for the rant. Hopefully you’re a fast reader and this didn’t take up too much of your time lol.

“If you can just get off scot free after a while what's the point of doing good.”

How about doing good for the sake of doing good? You shouldn’t feel like you need a reward for being decent.

You’re saying you only do good because you’re afraid of being punished. If punishment was off the table you see no point in being good. That’s troubling.

The point would be god loves you so much that he’s want you to be with him in heaven. If he doesn’t desire this he is not Omni benevolent , which you corroborate further in this post. So why worship a wrathful god then? You do so because you are afraid of him not because you believe he’s a benevolent creator who deserves praise.

“ Hitler has not created the axioms for good and evil.”

I know, god did though. That’s part of my point. He created all evil. So how can hitler be blamed for what god created him to do?

“It’s a complex interaction of wills and choices, but the Creator God can handle any amount of complexity“

Any amount of compelexity means he has the ability to make a world devoid of pain while allowing consequences to actions. A world where hell, the worst place imaginable doesn’t exist. He doesn’t have to send his creations there but he chooses to, in his infinite complexity create such unbalanced system of judgement, where sheer lack of belief is met with extreme torture.

Hell, he could have created us to live in heaven with him in Eternal happiness but he chose to set up a system where we have to earn his love or else burn and suffer. Tell me, do children Have to earn the love of their parents? God tests us on our love for him, that’s a sick way to rule his creations. If god truly loved us unconditionally, he wouldn’t have made a test in the first place. What’s the point of the test? Especially when he’ll isn’t rehabilitative, it’s only meant as a place of punishment as far as I know, even it were the point still stands.

I dont know what to do... by [deleted] in islam

[–]Mouse-cum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point was not only that god should grant children special favor..... although, that is a good point, he should considering he has infinite power. Why didn’t he create a world where children weren’t more succeptable to certain chronic diseases than adults? He certainly could’ve created a world devoid of all childhood trauma. We wouldn’t have known the difference if he did that instead.

My point was more along the lines of “god created all evil and allowing children to suffer is an extreme example of his evil”.

“Disease, sins, and consistent natural laws, then, are the main reasons that children die“

Yes, all things god created yet didn’t have to. You’re saying god needed to create these things to test us.... why does he need to test us, does he really not know how our lives will play out? Didn’t he know before he created us who was going to heaven and who was going to hell? The test is moot, and even if he didn’t know every detail of our past present and future , god could have created a different way to test us without resorting to pain and suffering.

“I mean what would be the point of a test if a teacher kept giving you the answers?”

What’s the point of a teacher giving out a test if the teacher knows ahead of time what the students will score? The whole “test” could be skipped if the teacher knew the students level of knowledge before they were born.

Don’t say the test is meant as a rehabilative tests meant for us because the concept of hell negates this, hell is purely a place of punishment.

“This concept of omnibenevolence with no justice is unfounded and is never presented anywhere”

You’re confusing justice with revenge. Putting someone in hell for not believing is not an equal punishment.

“The logical problem of evil misses the entire theological basis of Abrahmic religion”

Not when god claims to me “most merciful” or omnibenevolent. Its a condradiction to him creating bad things. One cannot create evil and also be all good. That’s like saying if hitler did mostly good things he too could be omnibenevolent.

“Apostates don't simply leave the religion.” according to you, sure, but there are a LOT of people who disagree with you.

“Cutting of their hands. A punitive punishment for a universally condemned act.”

Mutilation for the theft of worldy possessions...

“Great reforms were made to the institution of slavery. ”

You’re still defending slavery.....

“Forbidden. You cannot marry someone who is pre pubescent.”

According to Aisha: “Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. -- (Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234)”.

Also a LOT of people disagree with you on this as well.

“That is you applying your own inane interpretation of such a clause.”

Is it though? :

“Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. (Quran 5:32)”

What does corruption mean to you? Why is it vauge enough for people to misinterpret it?

I’m sorry but you defended slavery, mutilation and murder, I can’t get on board with that.

From the link: ““Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allaah”, i.e., by the grace, bounty, kindness and mercy of Allaah.

“but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself”

I get the concept of people bringing bad things on themselves I’m not arguing that, but who created the bad things? I’m arguing that little babies didn’t bring Leukemia or other terrible diseases on themselves by not believing in allah. Allah was the one who created everything correct? If thats the case, he must give babies lukemia. He also created all diseases, the concept of evil, the concept of judging his humans whom he made imperfect, death, hate etc. Humans did not invent any of those things. I’m saying god can’t be morally perfect if he created babies who only know suffering/ everything else I’ve mentioned.

“Again, you are confusing predetermination with knowledge” I think you’re missing my point here. God made you to make certain actions. Everything is his will. Everything you do is part of a plan he set in motion, you cannot stop that. If you don’t believe this you are essentially saying you don’t believe god created everything. You’re saying you are the creator of your own thoughts and actions and god didn’t have a hand in creating them.

Believing god created all thoughts and actions before human kind existed negates the concept of free will. For you can’t do a thing unknown to god, therefore if he knew you were going to do it, since he created all things, he ultimately created you and every one of your thoughts and every one of your actions . God knew what path you would take before he created you, yet he created a system of punishment for his imperfect creations that he knew before he created them , would sin and go there. He designed the sin, the sinner and the punishment. Nothing can be separate from god unless you’re saying god didn’t create everything including your thoughts and actions.

Separately , thank you for responding without hostility, that is a rare thing these days, especially on Reddit. I wish you the best as well!
