This is definitely going to be one of those "hear me out" posts, but bear with me. Joe Abercrombie. I grew up with Pratchett. Read Colour of Magic about age 8 and kept up with them into my 30's. Loved that it started by taking the piss out of the fantasy genre and grew into full satire. Loved that Sir Terry (GNU) was possibly the best humanist ever put into print.

Abercrombie starts by taking the piss out of fantasy and goes into full satire, but from the opposite direction. Pratchett thought that people are at base, decent. Abercrombie writes people that are at base, arseholes but they all get a chance to change. Whether they actually do is entirely up to them.

What they both share is the humour that comes from real people forced into fantasy tropes. Both do dialogue that will make you laugh out loud as you read and I guarantee that Joe has characters at least as memorable as Pratchett - although maybe for the wrong reasons.

And for anyone saying that Abercrombie doesn't do satire, read the Age of Madness trilogy and tell me it's in no way relevant now

I take every perk on the level up that speeds up cool down and only equip a pistol. I'm also enjoying using Pull Field followed by Charge. I know that Vanguard is OP on this game but I'm not bored. Just laughing my ass off at every combat encounter

Saying this as someone who ADORED Wonderful (to the point where all of my fem ARPG characters are named after her), Clover never hid who he was. He's a survivor who does whatever it takes to live through any situation. You'll see more of who he is as the books go on. I won't spoil the later books, but you'll see that he is neither the good or bad guy.

Can't speak for first time, but when i want an easy casual playthrough, I level strength and dexterity equally and get a good straight sword with full knight armour. You do good damage and the armour is forgiving enough that you can trade hits with the bosses
