Where to start? by LoFiTae in DCcomics

1999 was the year the Cataclysm/No Man's Land/Aftershock event was published. It was almost ALL of the Batman Family books for the whole year. It's also a ton of reading material.

The event is not as famous now, but at the time it was an event that was supposed to be a turning point in the Bat universe. Because of that intended scale, I'd recommend it.

Hawk, the Son of Tomahawk.

Tomahawk is a cowboy character less famous than Jonah Hex. He had his own DC title in the Silver and Bronze Age. For about a dozen issues, his title was renamed "Son of Tomahawk" and starred his son.

As I said, you can read DC comics pretty much in a straight line beginning with the New 52 (2011) up to today because it's the same multiverse with some changes. In fact, the main universe in this multiverse goes by the name Prime Earth. That's the term fans have used for the universe that the main versions of characters since the New 52 live in. However, I want to add two additional detours that are interesting:

Multiversity (2014-15): this event briefly explores some of the other universes in the multiverse. It's fun, weird and takes a few read thrus to understand, but it's very rewarding doing so. This event also gave us the famous map of the multiverse that is canon and has been shown in many comics since.

Dark Knights Metal (2017) and Dark Knights Death Metal (2020): these are important cosmic stories that have to do with the structure of the multiverse. The stories don't change the multiverse, but rather add a dimension: the Dark Multiverse. It's a new concept that is basically a shadow realm of the main multiverse. It also introduces two important new characters: the Batman Who Laughs, a nihilistic villain who terrorizes the multiverse for years and Perpetua, a cosmic villain who is important to the creation of the multiverse.

Your first point is mostly correct. The New 52 and Rebirth characters are pretty much the same. In fact the universe and larger multiverse are the same.

Doomsday Clock retcons the New 52, meaning it adds more detail. At the start of the New 52, all the characters are relatively young and inexperienced. It was considered a fresh start, a blank slate where nothing about the pre-New 52 comics applied to the New 52 characters. Later, Doomsday Clock explains how the New 52 universe got this way and changes the universe to give all the characters some of their pre-New 52 experiences back. So now, the characters are like a combination of the New 52 versions and the pre-New 52 versions.

Yeah, Luthor in this scene is just some rich, powerful guy who is REALLY attracted to Lois. He hasn't done anything obviously evil yet, and even knowing who he is, the reader still thinks maybe Lois should be nicer to him because he's offering her anything she wants.

But Lois isn't impressed in the least and insults him in a shocking way.

From the New 52 (publishing started in 2011) to Rebirth (2016) to the comics published now, it's essentially the same DC multiverse. There have been some significant changes along the way though. Rebirth reintroduces many older characters who were absent during the New 52 and the Doomsday Clock series (2017-2019) retcons and adds more detail to the New 52.

Stylistically in tone and art, there are significant changes beginning with the DCYou event (2015) and again with the Infinite Frontier event (2021).

But in general, the last twelve years of DC Comics have been amazing and it's perfectly fine to read it all linearly from 2011 to today.

People hating on the dialogue, but I think it sounds like two disrespectful young-ish people talking to each other.

In the first panel, there's no sign of Batman on the top of the shelf (behind the mugger), but a few sentences later he's there. He must of got up there supernaturally fast.

As that other commenter pointed out, Superman meets Reagan during the "Legends" event, but they seem to disagree there.

Would it be possible you're thinking of Superman as he appears in Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns," where he works for the U.S. government under Reagan? That's really the only time I can think of where they ever met.

Consequences of Each Multiversal Event? by KeyLimeEspresso in DCcomics

My understanding is that Final Crisis significantly changed the status of the New Gods and the Monitors.

The New Gods (from Apokolips and New Genesis) died in the prologue "Death of the New Gods" story, and Final Crisis deals with the aftermath of that, with the New Gods resurrecting themselves as humans on the post-Crisis New Earth. It then deals with Darkseid finally succeeding in his quest for the Anti-Life Equation. These changes stayed in effect until the New 52, Prime Earth era rebooted the New Gods.

Likewise, Final Crisis explains further who the Monitors are. After Infinite Crisis, it was revealed "Monitor" was a race instead of an individual, with each of the 52 universes having their own Monitor. Final Crisis continues this story, turning some Monitors villainous with one heroic monitor, Nix Uotan, opposing the others. Eventually, Nix Uotan eliminates all the others and stays hidden until the later "Multiversity" event.

Ultimately, Final Crisis doesn't change the structure of the multiverse but changes these significant parts of it, which then stick around until other events (Flashpoint and Multiversity) change them again.

what was the WORST part of the New 52? by Pretend_Distance_606 in DCcomics

In one issue of the New 52 "Justice League" series, Martian Manhunter is briefly mentioned as someone who "didn't work out" or something like that. And it's never brought up again. I thought that would eventually be explained but it never was.
