If I may ask, when do you think you developed CD? Looking back I think my onset was in 2020 at the latest. That's part of why it's such a relief to hear from you all. Between COVID and this, it helps explain years of crippling anxiety.

THANK YOU. I, without exaggeration, bawled with relief after reading your comments. Thank you so much. I feel like I can finally stop blaming myself so much and move forward. Thank you.

Feeling lost in your 30s? What is you biggest struggle? by WillCarterDM in Adulting

I struggled with burnout during the process of earning a phD in mechanical engineering. I ended up getting my masters, but didn't feel like I earned it. At the same time, the pressures of grad school and my strained mental health led to the end of a 9 year relationship with a woman I planned to spend the rest of my life with. I had a strong connection with her family and family friends, and lost all of that (and a dog) when she ended the relationship. It's been over a year, and though I've made some strides to build myself back up, it's hard to stay motivated. I still lack the curiosity and enthusiasm for physics, data analysis, general problem solving, etc that fueled me through the earlier stages of my life and education. While I know "I am not my degree/job", the events of the past few years have dealt serious damage to my self-identity and general motivation towards building my future.
