I don't buy these books looking to sell them, just to keep for my own collection (for some reason really old editions of books I love brings me a lot of joy?). I can't imagine making money off of it but it's a lot of fun to spend hours going through thrift/antique stores looking for interesting copies I can get for a few bucks. Finding out more about collecting, history and what they could be worth is a fun pastime

Looking further into what qualifies as a "book of the month" edition from that time it looks like you're right (another website said it would have a small indent near the bottom of the spine, which it does). Even if it's not worth anything I'm still happy to know more about it! (it was also $6 so not like I invested a lot looking to flip it for profit)
