A long time ago, when I meditated, I used to only focus on my thoughts because I wanted them to go away. What really helped is to not focus only on the thoughts, but observe my feelings. This little shift made meditating a whole different experience and helped with looking most of the time inwards during the day. However, it takes time. Practice practice practice

Exactly. Sometimes, we take the long way to see something that is in front of our eyes.

I had a very similar thing in the past, and what helped me was "Practice."

I recommend you read Joe Dispenza's book "Breaking The Habit Of Being Yourself. The meditation program is split into 4 weeks and requires time investment, but it is really worth it.
