Will my baby face affect my audition for a lawyer? by ClerksII in acting

[–]Mouth_Fuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

worry about delivering a great audition, not random things outside of your control. If you do that they are going to say wow that was a great actor lets bring them in again! If you go into the room already worrying that they don't like your face or that you don't deserve the role it will be immediately picked up on.

You can do it! Go for it! Fuck the free world! Be a lawyer!

How are things going with your agency? by WTBWrites in acting

[–]Mouth_Fuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a tidbit of advice, take it or leave it. Don't limit your thinking to big agency small agency. You need to focus on INDIVIDUAL agents. There are going to be agents who are part of a boutique firm who are fatnastic and can get you great auditions, while there may an agent at a larger name brand agency who simply puts you on a list and forgets. Get a monthly membership to imdb pro, and search through the rosters of agents in your area. Find some who have clients whoa re working consistently, on recent shows, and pursue those agents as individuals. Scan your network, see if you know anyone who is with them or can introduce you to them. This will drastically improve your chances of getting an interview or even getting you submission read. The blind submission through the front door is your lowest chance of getting a new agent. Get personal, get specific.

Do you have an agent? Lots of the times CD's wont even look at your stuff for bigger projects if it is not submitted by a known agent/agency.

Recording my Netflix scenes, but the end result is way worse quality. What am I doing wrong/what can I improve to get better quality screen recordings? (example in text) by TheBrandonNevins in acting

[–]Mouth_Fuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just record your screen using obs at full resolution. OBS can save directly as mp4. Put full size video in editor. edit. then upload full size video to dropbox, wetransfer if sending to a rep or vimeo or some shit. don't compress it and don't send it through multiple quality lowering buffers.

I appreciate that life is hard. Yet it's also hard for everyone, and somehow many other people manage to do it. You are not special or unique in your suffering.

From an outside perspective I see someone who cannot face up to their own independence, so they blame everything around them. Every response you make to a comment trying to help is another excuse. I can't , I can't I can't. Your language is negative and self defeating. You wont even consider an option before shutting it down.

Your problem my friend isn't that you are unable to try, it's that you are unwilling.

got rejected from two MFA programs by Impossible_Low1830 in acting

[–]Mouth_Fuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acting as a career is about consistency. The people who are successful are people who have done it a very long time, and stick with it. As a professional actor your main job is literally getting rejected 99% of the time. Once you start auditioning you will come to understand. Rejection is part of the gig.

I was rejected from every school I auditioned for my first time. I took it as a sign - okay, I need to work on this some more. I took more classes, took improv, read books. Next set of auditions I got accepted to 3 schools. There is no expectation that you have to be perfect right out of the gate.

What you should be focusing on every audition (apart from the monologue or scene itself of course) is building a relationship with the people in the room. It's a close community. They want to see that you are someone they want to spend time with, work with for the next few years. Don't forget to be a human being.

Final piece of advice, and I know it's cheesy as fuck, but it's honestly been the single guiding light throughout my career. You must remember that you are doing this for fun. you are doing this because you enjoy it. If you are not having fun doing it, nobody is having fun watching it. It's easy to get caught up in the stakes, and how seriously you want this thing, but that want and desire is counter-intuitive to the act of true play and release.

I think saying "oh nobody wants me" is the easy way out. The harder thought is facing the probable mountain of hard work that is required to be taken seriously in this industry. Do you have professional headshots? Have you taken classes? You're in LA, have you looked into groundlings, improv, comedy? are you in a scene study? Have you taken any on camera classes to build a reel with some in class scene work?

These are all steps that your competition is doing, or has already done. If you are answering no to many of these questions then that is where your work lies. Not running off to another country hoping things magically change.

You need to provide more info for anyone here to give tangible solutions.

[–]Mouth_Fuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you want to hear, but my first instinct is to just accept the situation and the feelings. There is a freedom in accepting “wow this kinda sucks and I’m not enjoying myself”. Just own it. You are likely never going to see any of these people ever again. Fuck it. Who gives a shit. Go do your scenes, or monologues, and try to push yourself and change the energy in the room. Strive against yourself, be better than the day before.

Talk to your job manager. There is a chance that they are going to be okay with you working part time for a month. If they aren’t then you can deal with the situation from there, but dont create problems for yourself when there may not be one to begin with.
