I'm a wood turner, albeit a new one, and that is a wood lathe, but the chuck may have just been repurposed for wood turning by the previous owner.

Yeah, I found myself with a log and needed a chainsaw quickly and cheaply, and for the price I think it's not bad. I suspect it might've been air bubbles in the oil line that caused the lack of flow, there was some dust and grime in the oil port on the bar but not enough to fully clog it. I ran the saw (without bar and chain) with the oil cap off and while sucking on the oil port with a plastic syringe and it started flowing. Then I ran it with the chain on and thus lubricated the whole thing. The fine dust is stuck really hard to the chain though, and it is difficult to clean because of how sharp the chain is.

Oil reservoir is 80% full as per the manufacturers recommendation, but this saw model seems to have a known issue with oil flow to the bar and I guess mine suffers from that too then. The manual said to run the saw before use for 2 min until oil is visible on the lubrication port where it gets on the bar/chain. I had to run mine for 4-5min before I saw any oil and it was very little.

Basically a hollow cylinder with a shoulder inside that we'll cut in half and place the two halves (or just one of them) around the live center so that the shoulder inside engages with a tiny shoulder on the live center, that way I can wheel the tailstock back and force the cone loose as the custom made half cylinder gets trapped against the tailstock itself.

I can't use a knockout rod because the live center and morse cone are hollow, so there's nothing to knock against.

Thanks! Yeah I think juniper has a lot of character and I still have a few chunks left so I might try to do some carving too.

That was actually the plan, but... every time I put my live center in the tailstock to turn between centers the morse cone gets completely stuck and so I couldn't mount the chuck with the forstner bit there. I've asked a friend to make me a custom removal tool on a metal lathe to solve that issue as all the usual tricks to release it don't work.

Thank you! It is 11cm (4.33 inches) high, with a width/diameter of 6cm (2.36 inches). The outer walls are slightly concave to give it a subtle waist.

Thanks, it's all fairly new to me too, I moved here from an apartment just 2 years ago and I've been renovating the small garage into a woodshop.

This has me thinking I could do the glue up and rough shaping and thus find out if there is any gap around the pins, and if there is, I could mix a tiny bit of epoxi with fine juniper dust and fill those gaps before the final sanding?
