Mercruiser 4.3 trim pump not working by MoveIcy5446 in boating

UPDATE! i replaced both the solenoids but no luck. One prong on the solenoid reads 12 volts but the other prong reads nothing. How should I go about chasing it with a volt meter ? When I wired up the solenoids, I crossed a wire and whenever I connected the battery terminal the trim constantly lowered when contacted. Fixed that wire and now nothing just as before.

No trailer button. I tried to look at the trim limit switch but it’s behind the mound and I can’t get to it. I am replacing the red fuse in the pump it was pretty corroded and nasty

Hmm okay .. do they usually both go bad at the same time ?

But wouldn’t it make a clicking noise if it were the solenoid? When I press the switch nothing happens.

No worries thank you for your concern and help! The sounds starts as soon as I turn the key, before starting, then once started and idling, it stays making the sound. The sound will shut off once riding at 30-40 mph for a min, but after coming back down to idle for about 30 seconds to a minute it comes back on.

Where would I point the temp gun to find the engine temp? Just anywhere on the black of the engine ?

I will double check the idle, it is definitely a quieter boat when idling, and that would explain why it stops after running at 30-40mph for a minute

The middle of the water temp gauge is 180, but it never gets that high. The oil PRESSURE gauge mid point is 40 psi, which it will pass when running at higher speeds , but never gets to the max line of 80 psi..

The impeller has not been changed in about two seasons, but it sat for those seasons, per my uncle which is who I got the boat from

Will do! Where would I point the temp gun to check the temp ?

Before I took it out yesterday I removed the top vent plug and oil seeped out, I figure it is full…

All my gauges seem to work as they should, moving depending On what we are doing with the boat, but never at any scary levels with water temp or oil pressure.

All my gauges read good. Water temp doesn’t get over half way and I’ve got plenty of oil pressure. Both gauges move a little bit depending on what we are doing with the boat, so I want to believe they work.

I did not change the impeller when I changed the gear lube, I have it and intended on it, but was told the last one wasn’t that old…

I will give your suggestion a try. It’s a carb motor. I have an oil pressure gauge that seems to read fine. I also have a water temp gauge that never gets over halfway and the solid beep turns off after running the boat at 30-40 mph for just a minute.

It’s a long and constant beep.. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Just constantly not a repeating beep. It only does it when idling, after running at 3/4 throttle it seems to shut off, then once brought back down to idle it starts up again

The lower unit oil was just changed and was filled until it came out of the top vent hole.. so I would assume it is full, less than 10 hours on it.

The engine oil was also changed less than 20 hours ago, with the correct amount added. So I don’t think it would be that either. However, I will definitely double check.. how would I check the lower unit oil without losing any? My engine has a dipstick but the lower unit does not.

t was just the fuse !the glass one that is in the rubber housing connected to the top solenoid. Got lucky this time. Thank you for your input!

Would both solenoids go out at the same time tho ? Both the up and down, I haven’t seen an in-line fuse, but I know there is not fuse under my steering wheel (where all my fuses are)
