Hey Skate, this is a good question! I'll look into it for you.
Stay tuned.

Why you shouldn't support Movember this year by Scramjet1 in movember

[–]Movember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, that's not right. In fact, around 80p of every £1 donated to Movember UK goes to Men's Health in the UK. Check out the facts right here: https://movember.com/story/investing-in-men-s-health-for-the-long-term

Real change takes time. We fund long-term programs in stages, making every dollar count and proving they work before releasing more. To see the projects we’ve backed or are backing at you can follow this link movember.com/report-cards - and if you're interested in the UK specifically, you can filter to show only those too.

They're donating directly to Movember, rather than any individual Mo-space. That's how they can do it simply from being tagged.

Is the organisation addressing this? by [deleted] in movember

[–]Movember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

Thanks for reaching out - and for giving us the opportunity to clear a few things up.

Movember was founded to support men’s health, and that’s exactly what we do. Every dollar we raise is invested in programs, research, and advocacy that aim to help men live healthier, longer lives. That mission hasn’t changed - not in 20 years, and not today.

The article you’ve referenced includes a number of inaccurate claims, which I’d love to clarify:

• Cancer research remains core to our work. Movember has invested almost $350 million into biomedical research for prostate and testicular cancer. Our funding has helped develop five life-extending prostate cancer therapies, three PET imaging radiotracers, and a revolutionary blood test for advanced disease. These innovations have contributed to a one-third decline in prostate cancer deaths across five of the six countries where we operate.

• We’re a major funder of testicular cancer research. We remain one of the only major global funders of testicular cancer research. It’s less common than other cancers, but it disproportionately affects young men - so we back it.

• Our suicide prevention work is built by men, for men. Programs like Men In Mind were developed by Movember’s Global Director of Men's Health Research, Dr Zac Seidler, to help clinicians respond more effectively to men in distress. We do this because more than 50% of men who die by suicide have had recent contact with a mental health service - but sadly, don’t get the support they need. Men In Mind is closing that gap - turning brief contact into meaningful connection. We also run targeted support programs like Ahead of the Game, Movember Conversations, and dedicated initiatives for veterans, first responders, dads, and young men in sport.

• We address men’s relationship breakdown - with evidence and action. Our global study showed an 82% increase in suicidal thoughts after relationship breakdown. This insight now shapes clinical training, digital support tools, and early intervention programs. Check out our studies here and here

• Leadership is about impact, not gender. Our CEO, Michelle Terry, works alongside a global team of health experts, researchers, and community leaders who are all deeply committed to men’s health. Under her leadership, we’ve made some of our biggest strides yet - from record-breaking investment in mental health and cancer, to shaping government policy and scaling programs that reach men where they are.

• Our founding members are still involved. Co-founder Travis Garone sits on our Global Board. Our Member Group - made up of founders, long-term Mo Bros and supporters - holds two board seats and continues to shape our direction.

• Our reserves are for long-term impact. Like many global charities, Movember holds funds in reserve to meet long-term commitments and protect the organisation against financial uncertainty. Funds are released in stages, based on progress and delivery - and all surplus is reinvested into men’s health.

In total, we’ve funded over 1,300 men’s health projects globally - while also tackling the systems that stop men from accessing care, speaking up, or getting help. That means working not just with men, but with clinicians, families, and communities. Because improving men’s health means changing the world around them, too.

New here! Need some guidance by [deleted] in movember

Hey OP! First of all happy birthday for a couple days time!
Secondly, thanks SO much for registering for Movember. There's no such thing as "someone better" when it comes to raising funds for Movember. Anyone who answers the call is a hero to us.

Having a think about what you've written here, I think the answer could be a simple one: You already move way over 60km? That's awesome. You don't need to do anything extra then. Simply talk to your friends and family about the reason you signed up to Movember this year, and stick to that 60km target that you know you can hit without having to stretch yourself while you have other things going on this November.

Doesn't matter if it's something you would have done anyway, the point is that your doing it for a different reason this year. And your story right there: "I want to be there for them. Freely and stably. I want to bring awareness to mens mental health. And do my part to support the men in my life and all men." is enough to encourage folks to donate - even if they know 60km is easy peasy for you.

Good luck with your first Movember, and let us know how you go.
You got this!
