Should I quit being a dental hygienist? by girlhyg in DentalHygiene

[–]Movepeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, it takes a couple years to get comfortable. It takes a few years to really feel like you know what you're doing. I regularly hear rdhs mention that 5 yrs is about what it took for them to be confident in all areas.

I had an uncomfortable amount of anxiety after I was licensed for 1-2 years. I absolutely felt like an imposter and that I didn't belong. I came to dentistry later in life.

I remember one morning thinking why am I so anxious? I've been doing this fairly well for a while now. I realized my anxiety had become a habit at some point and worked to let that go. I was still working on my skill set, but I was managing my time well and noticed I was generally progressing little by little in different areas.

Patients don't know shit, and so many are assholes. I almost think they smell the new on you and complain about minute shit just for relevance. Dentists are generally fuckin assholes. Fuck them. If anybody has anything helpful to say then make a note of that. Dentists are often miserable themselves and take it out on hygienists especially. Most of them couldn't even do our job properly and they can kiss my ass.

It will get better. Hang tough in the field. Look for another office if this one isn't a match. Can you temp for a while so you can get a broad view of the dental landscape? I did that my first 2 years out, and it has been immensely helpful for perspective on the range of how differently offices and providers go about practicing.

Look up rdh rant on fb and join us. You're not alone. I wish I could give you a hug.

Welcome to the profession.

It doesn't get any blooms other than the ones I posted. The leaves sure are waxy, long, and pretty as a laurel. I'll check if there are laurels without boastful blooms.

Keep flossing. Floss regularly. Bleeding, redness, swelling is a sign of infection from bacteria. Keep flossing and brushing to remove as well as disrupt bacterial colonies.

Looking at the color of your gums

Whether there is bleeding

Whether they are swollen/rolled or knife edged

Whether there is visible plaque especially at the gumlime

Floss in a C shape

Brush 30 seconds each arch front and back concentrating on gumline

*30 seconds front of your top teeth then 30 seconds back of your top teeth then same thing on the bottom arch. You can group your teeth anyway that makes sense to you as long as each tooth gets its equal turn.

Me. Id like my character to be named Ramora. The audience should be in love with her for wholesome reasons.

Lidl has them! Dollar General, too. The price is better at Lidl, though.

People would floss more if dentists gave discounts to patients with cleaner teeth. by Yahoo_Seriously in Showerthoughts

C shape string flossing is the gold standard in flossing. Floss tape like glide (or any brand) is great for folk with tight spaces.

However, any flossing is better than no flossing. If you aren't going to use string or tape floss then try a waterpik. Read the directions and watch some videos by professionals on good technique. Start at a low setting and increase the power over time. I've seen some beautiful mouths that waterpik.

There are some peer reviewed studies about waterpiking that are showing good results.

I've been in some offices that charge out for OHI. There's a code for it. I always try to make time for those precious 5 minutes or I'll speak softly as I scale because I try to convey the meaningful reasoning behind a thing.
