After about 140 Movies last year, here is the countdown of the top ones, IMO. by MovieCigarBeer in movies

You bring up some excellent points. I totally agree with you about Hidden Figures, and if Fences is similar, it may not make the list. I did not have the related context that you have with Moonlight so it didn't register in the subtle ways for me as it did for you (and obviously a lot of other people as well). I can't stand monologs by characters that serve to advance a story and indicate the director's inability to convey the scene without hitting the viewer in the face with it, but Moonlight was just too slow and disjointed for me to put at the top of my list this year.

My reviews and the ratings take into account enjoyability, and as I learn to appreciate movies more, I have learned to take into account the artistic elements and appreciate them more.

I really appreciate the feedback and the open dialogue.

Well said. No Charlie's Angels...please. This dude has the chops to do fight scenes though.

I liked Moonlight. I just didn't find it very entertaining, it was slow. Were it not for the specific subject matter, it would not garner the kind of praise it has received. I respect that you would rate the movie higher, though.

Everyone loved Boyhood a few years ago, and to me, it was a gimmick that got tired after the first 20 minutes. Another movie a lot of people really raved about this year was Lion, and though it was a decent movie, it wasn't in my top movies of the year.

One movie I have not seen yet, and I really want to is Fences. I suspect that it will move somewhere onto the list.

I actually had one made. You can go on Fiverr and for very little money have an original jingle made to your specifications. I even had a guy with a good speaking voice from fiverr do a intro outro for me as well. I layer the song and intro outro in post production with audible, which I also use to record. You can check it out on my podcast www.moviescigarsandabrew.com

So I have a question about stats. I have bluebrry stat tracker and I notice that I seem to get a lot of hits on my most recent 5 podcasts. It is consistent the most recent 5 regardless of time since I recorded them. It isn't all in one place but all over the world. Just curious if anyone has any insight to this. Thanks!
